A collection of everyday applications to save you time, money, frustration, and headaches. Several years ago I was struck by the epiphany that many of the impossible things to fix where when broken down to their basic elements really easy to do. And while not everyone will want to tackle a dirty brake job, I invite you to watch and see how many things are within your reach.
We also include product reviews and installations just to round out the experience.

Pleaze people, dont go messing with the traction battery. It can and will kill you. Great video for the average tinkerer/layman/DIY'er. Tbanks much. And loved the addition of the little bit of problem solving you did. Every little bit helps.
You don't clean the back?
If you mean the dryer exhaust vent, I do but this video is about the build up inside the machine. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Good luck on getting hot water for a shower. Also the display was showing KW power .6 would indicate 600 watt consumption for the frig.
Actually the display at 37:53 shows 0.06 which is 60 watts. The natural gas tankless only uses electricity for the exhaust blower and igniter, we are looking at less than 240 watts for the Rheem when running at full throttle. Thank you for watching and taking the time to write.
@cfldriven does wireless bridge mode allow you to put the router in any room because I'm planning on buying it for my room on my night stand for better speeds
Wireless bridge mode is a network feature that allows you to connect two or more network segments (LANs) without the need for physical cabling, effectively extending the wireless network. It’s commonly used to connect two wired networks over Wi-Fi or to extend the range of a wireless signal.
@@cfldriven can I connect my phone wirelessly to the router when its in wireless bridge mode
@@jaydenstowe7588 Yes you should be able to.

I was having issues with mine going off line from too weak a wifi signal. Installed a wifi extender, reinstalled the water sensor, and problem solved.
Barry, my experience has been less than satisfactory. I had water pool over it and it didn't alert. Glad to hear your system is working better.
@cfldriven Strange why yours didn't alert. Bought a 2nd sensor for a backup to let me know when our cistern is full

I tried a battery replacement also and didn't help me either. Battery level reports 38% to 76% on new battery
Does this router have wireless bridge mode
Jayden, confirming this router does has both bridge mode and wireless bridge mode under WAN setup.
I have had the same thought about the fact these need a switch. I think I might just give it a whirl. Thanks for sharing.
Just make sure to use a switch that will handle the amperage load of the popper.. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Unfortunately our water here, even though I have a water softener system, still has rust and calcium. I use the ice machine daily, so my gut tells me I have to keep buying them. What are your thoughts?
The water softener won't do much for the rust as it not a filter. Depending on the amount and size of the rust I would be concerned with it interfering or clogging the water line in the fridge. You can add a filter onto your water softener and bypass the fridge filter or use one on the fridge. I think whole house filter might be cheaper in long run.
I had to add my issue with this induction stove. Mine is also 6 years old. It worked perfectly up until today. We had a pot boil over on the cook top. The element was on full power. It boiled over for a few minutes before we caught it. Maybe 12 oz of water boiled out. On top of the glass. I thought no problem. However as we used paper towels to soak it up we could hear water sizzling inside the cook top. Turns out the glass is not sealed water tight to the metal frame intermediately below the glass top. Water using surface tension leaked inside running along the underside of the glass top into the power control box. It shorted out the control box. Note we turned the stove off as soon as this happened. Yet those power wire leads that run into that power control box must be live full time. The water continued to sizzle and we could smell burned wiring. Until it went pop. Burned thru the wire at the short. The entire cook top is dead now. The controls still work just no heat. The oven still works. All 5 burners are dead. The replacement of that power control box costs $2,100. So people watch your cooking do not let anything boil over. If it does contain the spill immediately do not let it run over the edge of the glass. It will be a very expensive lesson. I would even put a towel around the edge of the cook top just as a safety measure. To stop any boil over from getting over the edge of the glass. It will save you 2,100 repair bill.
Dan, what an important story to share. I sort recall something about liquid being able to get under the panel, but never imagine it would short out the control box. Makes you wonder way they didn't install a gasket to prevent this. You got me thinking maybe there is a way to apply some silicone along the cook top to control panel and rear vent. Have to do further research to make sure it doesn't cause more problems than it solves. Will you replace with another induction and does homeowner insurance cover any of it? Thanks for sharing.
Excellent
Thank you for taking the time to watch and write in, much appreciated.
If you heated the plastic, you could probably flatten the area the switch is in so it's not protruding each side. If not, perhaps glue the switch in from the back.
The area for the switch is only slightly curved so it doesn't really protrude, otherwise your idea sounds like it might work. Thank you for watching and sharing.
Isn't it Ironic that it's Al Jazeera reporting this when they have embedded terrorists within their organization ? smh No wonder vigilantism exists.
Nice work. My setup is a little different as I have connected the 12V car battery directly to a 12V 100Ah LiFoP04 battery and then connected to an inverter. For my needs, I feel it's a little more flexible as I can run a 12V fridge from the lithium battery and if required, I can relocate the lithium battery to wherever I need a power source. Perfect for camping and emergencies. Also I don't have a garage or off-street parking so, the car might not be next to the house to run an extension cord from inverter to a 240V appliance (I am in Australia).

How can I identify if my jr45 jacks in my new home are set to T568A or T568B. I took a picture of one of them, but I can't tell anything from the picture. I ask this because I may have to re-do all of them (about 8 or 10) and I don't know how much spare ethernet cable I will have inside the wall. I've had this video camera since 2019. Only really using it since 2020. It is a fantastic video camera, I would very happily buy it again, so much so I'm considering buying another as a backup. Great piece of tech, would love an updared version but I don't see this happening because the tech has plateaued. It's literally as good as it gets and with Sony needing to protect their more premium range of camcorders, the AX53 is the only contender for now I think....almost 8 years since launch!
Your right about Sony not wanting to make this too good when they have higher end camera to sell. Thanks for sharing your story.

Wanted more info on recording a program, moving the closed caption text to bottom of screen instead of middle & creating a favorite channel list. Liked that he went over every button & told it’s function
Leona, unfortunately in the USA you can not record programs with this TV as you can in other countries. However you can use a DVR like the Tablo TV kzread.info/dash/bejne/lH6bo8muYZCaZtI.html. Thank you for watching and writing in.
I bought the Tablo TV 4th generation DVR hoping it would be better than my15 yr old Channel Master. My Channel Master picked up more channels than the Tablo. Tablo's guide is better but that's about it. It seems more like a beta version rather than the finished product. I truly wish I would not have purchased it.
As you saw in the video the my transition from CH Stream+ was a bit shaky. After the tech support reset and firmware update the Tablo has reliable. I live in a poor reception area so along with high gain antennas, antenna pre-amp, I also run the Tablo antenna pre-amp which helps when storms roll into the area. It is about the same number of channels, I do like the ability to record a few minutes and after each show. The misses enjoys the ability to watch shows on her phone while she moving about the house in the morning. Overall Tablo TV is different from CM (I have gottne use to using Roku to get to Tablo) but it probably the best choice for the money of what is out there.
Good Demo and appraisel

I've got a GREAT idea for all these Emergency radios: one of the radio bands should be TV audio so while you're sitting there powerless, at least you can listen to your favorite TV shows. EZ to design into these radios and worth every penny while you're sitting there doing nothing IMHO.
Sony and Eton had the same idea, although none of these radios are currently available in US. Temu and Alibaba might have other brands with NOAA and TV bands. The TV band could come in handy for areas in which the radio stations are automated and the only reliable weather info is on TV. Might be good just to have both a NOAA and a TV radios.
@@cfldriven Cool, I'll check Temu. Thanks, I appreciate the idea.
Love this paint. I recently did a second dresser, had a little left. Few weeks later I wanted to use little bit left to do just top on a large dresser. It got so think and hard to stir im wondering if I can add just a tiny bit water so I can work with it and finish dresser top. Don't know why it happened, few weeks ago I did whole dresser and it wasn't too thick.! Love this paint nantucket.
Linda, unless air got into it, you should be able just to stir it. I had my for over a year and it looked like jelly, but after stirring it was fine to paint with.
There was only about 1 5 inching bottom of jar. I used a drill attachment for mixing paint and it could barely turn. Maybe because jar was almost empty. I added 2 teaspoons, water and kink or messed up integrity of the paint. Still used it. Barely had enough to cover a dresser top I was using it for. I scrapped sides of jar and finally I got that satin smooth finish. Used a clear matt finish.

It looks like this receptacle can't be used with metallic surface mount boxes. I also noted that you could spin the wire, indicating the wire may be only clamped on one spot. Your "Shepard Hook" in the beginning of the video was backwards. Sorry, one more... If your house is wired with all #12 and in the late 1960's - early 1970's then it is likely aluminum wire, and clamp terminals in receptacles are not recommended. All that said, I have never used one of these outlets. I will buy one and test it out. Thanks for the video. Sorry for being such a sticker. My electricians always called these "BACK STAB" receptacles. I've seen many service calls through the years with back stab outlets. Lights flickering, and customers smelling smoke somewhere due to poor connections.
CS not sure why you think it not suitable for metallic surface mount as the receptacle has grounding points. Oops on the Shepard hook at 12 secs, even for a demo I should have caught it. Our home was built in 1968 with all copper wiring. We had a mix of back stab and hooked connections and some were done correctly and others not causing some of the issues you mentioned. Funny as this is a GE Gold Medallion home so you'd think the quality level would have been better. Thank you for watching and sharing.
Next video, I burned the invertor/convertor in my Prius connecting 1000W invertor to the small 12V battery! The 12v invertor in the prius is calculated for the loads the car has on the 12V bus. You trying to pull 1000W from it will end in an expensive bill for invertor/convertor assy replacement. If you want to put an invertor in this car, you can find a DC to AC invertor that works in the voltage range of the prius traction battery and connect it and then you will have a true backup generator with your Prius. But just go and buy a cheap gasoline generator and just learn how to change oil and a spark plug.
Jozef, in the video the DC/DC outputs 125 amps, and 1812 watts. We limit the draw by using 100 amp fuse and an inverter that can only output 1000 watts. The system is purposely overbuilt for the little we ask of it. Remember purpose of this build was to run a frig, a natural gas tankless, and one or lights. Connecting to the traction battery would allow a higher amperage draw but it not a risk I am willing to take.
@@cfldriven As mentioned, the output load on the 12V DC/DC is calculated based on the car's needs. The idea that 125 amps are just sitting unused isn't accurate. The 12V system powers the brake pump, contactor circuits, lights, fans, and all the car's CPUs. If you think 125 amps is overbuilt, use an amp clamp meter on the engine cooling fan when the car is running hot to see its amp draw. Taking 100A with the inverter would leave only 25 amps for the car, which is barely sufficient. This would gradually strain your DC/DC converter and eventually cause it to fail.
@@uzefix Jоzef, this not a competition. In the video it is stated with car in READY to turn off other systems before using the DC/AC inverter. My HV DC current draw was under 5amps. Fan draws 2.0 amps at 14.7v and 1.7amps at 12.0v. Not sure what you mean by the car running hot, it just sitting in Park with minimal load. During the charging cycle it not getting hot enough to cause the fan to come on. The Prius is a very efficient system. Driving load is very different from just sitting with a connected DC/AC inverter. This solution may not be for everyone but it based on research and safety considerations.
The car HAS no needs if it's sitting stationary. Stop trolling. Go make a video if you think you're an expert . You won't, because you're a childish troll @@uzefix
@@cfldriven a 300w inverter would be absolutely fine, 1 kw if you use it all of that for a long time, that's a potential problem. The traction battery is a great way to convert an old G2 Prius, out of warranty anyways, into a long term generator with a UPS system, and thus get 2.5kw of power. Gas engine will run a lot of course at that draw, but a great way to power a home in Florida after a hurricane, or for an oil/gas furnace in Vermont after a bad winter storm killed power. This isn't me supporting a troll, which I don't think he is, just another way to do it. I prefer a 2 battery setup with a 1kw inverter, with a physical separation between both batteries that can be controlled, use the hybrid system to recharge at a lower amp rate the 2nd battery when needed.

Does this allow testing of high end video coax like 12g-sdi with a F to BNC adapter?
I bought it. 2years ago, but now I found it does not work properly, the indicator always remind me that the water is full of tank, but there is no water in the tank.
If the float moves freely it could be the micro switch. I would call their customer support.
I wonder what is the Prius cable gauge from DC-DC converter to the 12V battery? Did you check if that cable is rated for the current that you are pulling into the inverter?
Oleg, good question. Consulting with electrical wire charts we sized for cable that could carry in excess of 125 amps with the least amount of electrical resistance. Thank you for watching.

I agree, but what is available can be tinted. Thanks for watching.
