As a oncology and palliative care nurse I have to say there are 2 real issues surrounding death these days. The first is the taboo nature of death in western culture. It’s all hidden behind closed doors handled by professionals. If you could see the pain and all of the horrific things patients have to endure at end of life, you wouldn’t push for ridiculous treatments and “cures” to keep mum, dad, grandma etc alive a little bit longer.I honestly feel like we have to torture people because loved ones have unrealistic expectations. Number 2 is the unrealistic expectations that come from not being exposed to sickness and death and the dreaded curse of the TV hospital dramas that people seem to think are real. People genuinely think that if your 85 year old grandma has a cardiac arrest we can just whip out the defibrillator and everything will be fine. Google the statistics on that one. CPR is not actually successful very often and that is with a young healthy person.. Honestly we treat our pets at the end of life better than our loved ones.

I didn't know about the yukkiness of death until I worked in a physical rehab center and my CNA/Tech told me. Now I'm old, my parts are having problems, and i contemplate death. My best friend died of bone cancer at 42. Her friends kept her easing along by doing sub Rosa runs. Just before she passed her eyes became a deep blue, her lashes very dark, her cheeks were rosy and her hair was shiney. The male psychologist from hospice, who visited us at her home (her elderly mom and all her close friends) teased her about having put on makeup, but she didnt. She looked beautiful. She died peacefully. I think dying w your loved ones w you, if there really is love amongst them, may make a difference in the death experience than if one is dying alone or in a cold, noisy hospital or rehab center, wh is the experience had by nearly all of the patients who died in those places.

I had the opposite experience: I had to beg my mom’s medical team to release her to hospice care, instead of home. She was in advanced congestive heart failure, COPD, and about 4 other things, but they were drawing out her suffering endlessly by just treating and releasing her multiple times, playing medical whack-a-mole - and we simply did not have the resources to give her the kind of 24/7 nursing she needed. So I campaigned with the doctor to do the compassionate thing - and it had to go to a committee for decision. They finally concluded that when taken *individually* none of her many conditions were terminal at that time, when considered as a *whole* her condition was terminal. So hospice was approved on a technicality. So they withdrew treatment and put her on palliative care in a hospice facility. She lasted only 10 days before she died in April 2019, 2 days before my birthday. The whole situation was heartbreaking.

Get em blossom. Did you ever know that you're my hero? I'm totally not being facetious, I've just waited for like thirty years for a reason to say this. I know I am not alone....

Good for you, for everything you're doing. Your dad would be proud. My dad died in February this year. Looking through pictures of him...my dad was a bit of a goofball...a guy who spent 29years in the Navy, was a Freemason for 29years and was a caretaker at the National Cemetery at Otis AFB on Cape Cod. I have been getting random reminders today and needed to share...he is my first memory card I'm missing him. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.

Time flies by. I still remember first watching Blossom here in the UK back in the 90s and I fancied her massively. Used to have a thick wooden stick that I'd mess around with as a kid. Spent time carving Blossom into it and coloured it. Oh dear.

I saw Mayim Biliak interviewed on i24 News with Emily Frances and I learned I was five months older than Mayim. I never liked her tv show “Blossom” because it wasn’t for me but I always liked her. Mayim has a beautiful smile and personality and she looks the exact same as she did when she was as 14. I wish you the best Mayim and thank you for supporting Israel because most American Jews do not. 🇮🇱❤️😁
