You seem to be against Trump, but he was the only person to do something about student loans. I bet you voted for Biden, when you had a president actually working on the debt. He paused the debt and dedicated a part of his cabinet to actually work on the issue. Biden has done zero, why should anyone listen to any of your advice. You make decisions out of emotions not logic.

At 37 years old, one of the best decisions I even made was not attending college. For years though I really struggled with not having a college degree and felt like I was missing something until my friends started asking me how I was maxing out my 401k, Hsa, and Roth IRA. Im a senior hvac tech making low 6 figures with no debt. My wife who is from Nigeria has a comped science degree but no student debt. It’s such a blessing to be debt free. Im truly grateful.

Thanks for this! I was able to get the PSLF and the rest of my loans were forgiven for public service as a Professor. With this one there is not a salary cap, but you must be making payments for 10 years straight based on the income, no matter how high or low. 3 full years were waived in the 10 years due to COVID, so ALL gone!

I've been making loan repayments into a high yield savings account since the pause. While it's in there, it will be generating 4 percent interest and growing until I can dump it all into my loans once interest starts again.

I guess they’re gonna get it out of my bones. I make a measly 48k and I owe 270k ( of which 102k is predatory interest). No matter how much I might want to, I couldn’t possibly pay it off. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I work in social services. Don’t come at me with the “you should have thought about that before you borrowed blah blah… I never borrowed 270k. I expected to make more money (I have a Master’s Degree). It just didn’t work out that way.

I only have $20,000 in student loan debt from scamming trade schools. After that I made a promise to myself that I shall pay out of pocket for my education. Long as I continue to take it one semester at a time, It is actually easy paying out of pocket each semester. Even if you need to get on a payment plan for the semester, I suggest all new college students not to get student loans and only take courses that you actually need for your program. Work a part time job while you are in school. Trust me it’s doable. If I can do it with 3 children and a spouse while working a part time night shift just to pay for my day time classes, anyone can do it.

Hopefully the economy is stable you still have a job after x amount of years, and live long enough to pay it off before retirement. By that time your have zero assets accumulate and therefore work longer, and that’s is assuming your still making the same income in the future, which is why we are in this problem to begin with, and I can speak on this cause I have a Econ degree, but opt-out of my Ph.D & Econ Master. Financing Higher Edu is a scam plain and simple. The cost do not meet the benefits let alone exceed it!

My student loans have been paid off for over a year now. My recommendation would be to pay something because something is better than nothing. I've contemplated about creating a KZread channel focusing on news/personal finance. I've been able to become completely debt free and over time accumulated assets. I have a small positive net worth and I'm happy to share my journey on how I got there

In 2008 the world crashed. I tried to consolidate my private loans to one affordable payment. I was yelled at on the phone by a sallie mae rep that they were going to garnish my wage and I'd sleep on a park bench the rest of my life. Now I wasn't late but the payment they wanted to start me on was more than I made. I got a lawyer who got me a zero percent, my credit was trashed that year, but I could afford the payments. The debt collectors changed 3 times. I tracked every payment. I was threatened with court all 3 times they changed hands. Anyhow fast forward to 2023 and the privates are now paid off. Tracking with proof and the one time hit to my credit felt like a failure in 2008 but it was truly a blessing. I have the letters from Navient who took over my sallie mae loans as proof. But 300K is now off my credit.

@@ube4856 Sure so twofold...private school. $120K actual tuition And second when I was forced into default without ever actually missing a payment I am pretty sure default came with horrible, horrible interest that was part of the price I had to pay back. However having that noose around my neck upon graduation sucked. But I paid monthly and now it's finally gone.
