    I bought same trailer last year. If you will note, Texas Pride allows the removal of the safety chain via pins. When I park my trailer at sites, I remove the coupler and the chains. Trailer theft happens when they wrap the chain around the hitch of a truck and go. Removal of the chain limits that type of theft. Removal of the coupler adds another degree of difficulty, as most thieves won't go buy a ~$80 coupler to steal a trailer. I also use a wheel boot, GPS tracker and normal car alarm. Absolutely best theft protection is insurance. I have all my trailers insured for theft, If I recall, ~$4 a month ea or something near. I shall agree the krakenlock would be a wise investment, but I'd install it without the coupler, thus adding another degree of difficulty. The issue with securing the trailer is it MUST be simple and quick for the end-user. The harder and longer it takes to implement the security, the more likely it'll get skipped. EXAMPLE, if it takes ~14 min to setup and install all the security, and its COLD out. The driver may say, " It's only here for 3 days, I can skip these 2 locks and just put this one lock on..." Eventually, he will stop using the 4 security methods as and just use 3. Then after a few times of that, and nothing bad happening, he will just use 2 of them. And after a few times of nothing happing with just two of the security measures, he will just default to one, the easiest one to setup. So, in short, the install and use of the security measures needs to be quick n simple.

    Here's my trailer securing method that works for enclosed or other trailers with a lockable box. i install a viper or other car alarm that has relay control outputs. it attaches to the battery that a thief doesnt have access to(additional reasons to follow) just like a car alarm if trailer is tampered with or moved, or if a door or lid is opened (pin switch needed) the alarm will go off , make noise, flash the lights, and most importantly that controlled output relay is connected to the electric brace circuit (in a non visible location) or to the electric over hydraulic system. if the alarm is triggered power is applied to the electric brakes locking the wheels making it nearly impossible to tow. a trailer with an alarm siren going off, blinking lights and smoking tires(if thief is trying to drag down the road) draws lots of attention. this is great for tradesman or musicians who have to make trips back and forth getting tools or loading trailer since you dont have to keep putting padlock on and off doors. its just a press of the remote. you can also put electric locks on cargo trailer doors making it very easy to secure property in trailers. I have seen many times a trailer with motorcycles that is connected to a truck stops to sleep at a hotel and the whole truck and trailer is stolen. now imagine if thief tries to steal truck and defeats vehicle alarm the trailer alarm will still go off so in effect it is also protecting tow vehicle.

    Even a slightly motivated thief can devise a way to lift and tow away or simply modify a tow truck unfortunately. Also use chock locks that also cover the lug nuts (or use wheel locks) on at least 2 trailer tires, for another hurdle. I also design and add "decoys" which I wont disclose here (another tip: I keep an old throw-away wallet in the driver side door pockets...it is filled with junk like expired gift cards that look like credit cards, some real looking fake money, some illegible receipts stuffed in to make the wallet look juicy, and a little note that says FU, etc) ...the art of misdirection

    I've been looking for a way to secure my adjustable height coupler! Thanks I just ordered a Kraken and it was on sale so bonus there . As for the tongue the Ft Knox looks good but I ended up using a Proven Locks hitch vault and also use an Abloy puck lock. And for those talking about LPL, yes he can pick it I'm sure but a lock is just a deterrent. You don't have to be the fastest runner to get away from the bear, you just don't want to be the slowest. :)

If you don’t they will back up to your fancy trailer and wrap your chains around their ball or pintle hook and use them to drive off with your trailer, it takes just 2 minutes to do. Quick links allow you to take your chains off when parked.

  • @TrailTrackers
    @TrailTrackers4 жыл бұрын

    I've seen many products currently on the market that would have replaced that Kraken Lock; it's called a mig welder. I don't have the same type of ball mount you do on my trailers, but if I did and was worried about any of them getting stolen, I would have just welded those nuts to the bolts. I mean seriously... If not for you installing that Kraken Lock, you would have never removed that; nobody would. Weld it to save the money and be done with it. On the rare chance that some idiot backs into his trailer drunk at 90 mph and messes up the ball hitch, the nuts could easily be cut off and replaced. As far as the other type of ball hitch locking device, I would never be without the ones I use. Because you're right... If you just leave it like that other fool next to you did, the damn thing gets stolen.

    I live in lower crime area of a relatively high crime city. I have a hitch lock on our camper and my dad's utility/landscaper trailer. But I haven't been able to find anything for the lunette ring on my M1102 HUMVEE trailer. True! The fact remains that time is never on their side. So if the difference between steeling two different trailers is 30minutes and hard work, they might go for the easier target.

    Has anybody ever tried to break either of those style locks I know that by using a 3/8 drill bit and drilling into the brass part of the key section you can break open a pad lock 🔐

    On our youtube channel we have tried to defeat one of our own locks (granted no power tools) we were unsuccessful. As for the drilling, with the puck locks we sent JD they have a stainless steel spinner inside the cylinder that will catch with a drill and prevent it from being able to drill any further. We do offer a puck lock with a brass core like what you mentioned, and about a year and a half ago someone tried to drill it out and they were unsuccessful (granted the customer then had to have a locksmith come out and finish what the thief couldnt do and replace the puck lock).

    Ft. Knox Locks how about the hinge on it I'm just trying make sure no one is able to break it. Like with a pry bar prying it open at the split or a chisel close to the hinge Maybe these ideas would make for y'all a great selling point if they do not work and if they do well it would tell y'alls r&d department to try something new. 👍🏻. I love the idea you have and I'm sure that what I mentioned is not going to work, for I believe in American work🇺🇸

    Two 9K axles doesn’t equal 20k! Come on man. Your reach for masculinity is embarrassing. You have a 14k trailer there with higher capacity axles. Go ahead and load that trailer down to your crazy idea of 20k capacity and record that one. Btw, DOT doesn’t just go off the sticker. Anyone can put a sticker on their trailer. They go by your tires most of the time.

  • @BigTruckBigRV

    Mike, your attempt to be a troll would be more successful if you understand how trailers are built and rated. If ALL the weight rested directly over both axles, then you would need two 10K lb axles to support a 20k lb Fully loaded trailer. Fortunately, that's not how trailers are designed EVER. Since roughly 10-15% (and even more since the axles are positioned towards the back of the trailer) will rest on the hitch of the truck at 20k lbs GVWR, you will only have around 17-18k lbs that would ever be positioned over the axles since 2000-3000lbs would be supported by the hitch. Also, because it's a 20k designed trailer, the wheels are tires are 17.5" J LR tires, which have a 6k lb rating each, totaling 24,000lbs of GVW Capacity. Brother, I know you probably just go around posting unfounded comments on videos, but it can get embarrassing if you're not careful. Have a great day friend. Oh and DOT (DPS in my case) goes by the GVWR sticker to determine what tires will meet the minimum weight requirements for that specific trailer. With a 12k GVWR, my trailer only needs D LR tires. So yeah, J LR is quite a bit of overkill.

    I live in lower crime area of a relatively high crime city. I have a hitch lock on our camper and my dad's utility/landscaper trailer. But I haven't been able to find anything for the lunette ring on my M1102 HUMVEE trailer. I've considered just putting the pintle hook on it and using hitch locks on it so that it wouldn't be able to be removed or inserted into a receiver hitch. Any other suggestions? From anyone, I'm open to anything.
