It is, although this is not his usual Strad: this is the "Ex-Reynier" Strad. He now plays one of the four Kreutzers (1727). Before this, his first Strad was the "Ex-Kiesewetter" .... but he certainly has his own warm and romantic sound no matter what he plays :)

This is a treasure! I heard him play the Brahms Concerto in 1994 when he was still just a teenager, as in this video, and he played with the maturity of a great artist then, as now.

@@obbie1osias467 Well yes I realize it is an old video but that doesn’t mean one can’t wish for another performance in the near future. Covid has curtailed concert performances all over the world but hopefully soon soloists will be able to perform more frequently abroad.

It is magnificent how Vengerov play the violin. I hope some day he comes to San Diego Ca..

This performance is amazing - in my view, it equals 1998 performance with Rostropovich and London Symphony. Vengerov's interpretation clearly differs from Heifetz; yet, in my view, equals it in all parts.

Thank you Maestro Maxim! Please make some HI-RES recordings and release some SACD/DSD or flac192/24 albums . You should take into account that sound recording technology was very poor up till the years 2010 (analog or digital at max 16 bit ). You promised years ago that you will create a record label Vengerov Music Vision.

Isn't it all a bit too legato? As in he is not leaving space for the pauses? It all melts together. Of course he is a maestro and all the best but I notice this. Anyone?

В 1983 году Виктор Третьяков так отыграл Чайковского, что это было признано знатоками эталонным исполнением...а здесь говорят про Хейфеца и Венгерова. "Королями скрипок" выбирает не время и эпоха, а люди. Как говорил Грибоедов - а люди могут ошибиться... Сейчас для меня одно очевидно - в юности этот мальчик Венгеров был куда интереснее в своей трактовке - чем нынешний профессор Венгеров. Скажут: спорная оценка. Я соглашусь, но это моя оценка. И до Третьякова и тогда и сейчас Венгерову далеко...

I found the violin itself is not loud enough. So it cannot bring out powerful notes where ever needs.

Very good. But,on Earth, ONLY Heifetz play this RIGHT.

I love both versions: Heifetz's and Vengerov's. Julia Fischer's interpretation is my 3rd favorite one. As much as I love Heifetz, I somewhat feel that I prefer Vengerov's tempo/timing that so naturally varies in different parts of arguably the greatest romantic violin concerto ever written to Heifetz's incredible "flying" speed. To me, the best ever is the version of 1998 where 24-year old Vengerov performs with London Symphony directed by the other strings great, Mstislav Rostropovich.
