Maxim Vengerov plays Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (2021)
177 years ago, the great Mendelssohn Violin Concerto was premiered by violinist Ferdinand David, the composer’s dear friend, in Leipzig on 13 March 1845. Mendelssohn, who was ill, could not conduct his new work, so the orchestra was led instead by Mendelssohn’s assistant Niels Gade.
Today, I share this historical reenactment with my dear friend Antonio Pappano and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, performing the same work, hoping to present to you the pure excitement, lyricism and joy the audiences must have felt during the premiere in 1845!

Incredibile Bow control ! Excellent !
For my humble opinion Mendelssohn concert is the best violin concert. And Maxim Vengerov is the best violinist. Whenever I enjoy Mendelssohn's this masterpiece I appreciate Mendelssohn optimus. I acknowledge Mendelssohn is genius.
I can imagine Brett's distress, (similar thing happened to Eddy when Hilary hahn's Sibelius came just before his recording lol) And of course this had got to be top level playing without doubt anyway

The masterclass with Brett brought me here! There is such a warmth and Romanticism in the first Movement, I love it.
There are so many versions out there and thus people go too far in trying to sound original.. Maxim here captures the essence of how Mendelssohn wrote the piece while also withholding his own showmanship… this is of course done through pure quality of the notes itself and letting the notes play themselves as written.. world class!!
THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THIS PIECE IS THIS MAN!!!!

I love your cadence when you perform, it's not rushing. Every note is cristal clear.
9:30 he's not just playing the notes, he's playing with them! Magnificent!!!
I have listened to all the greats playing this piece and I don't think I have heard a finer performance. He has the technical mastery of Heifetz combined with the emotional interpretation of Perlman.
Maestro level intonation, perfect phrasing, genius
Master Vengerov, since I heard you for the first time performing Carmen in Lancut/Polska, almost 40 years ago, I've been your big fun. I love all your performances.
One of the best pieces ever written
Great performance .... as always. The camera angles, framing and editing are much improved from previous videos. They have given us a good look at Mr. Vengerov's bowing and left hand. I not only enjoyed the performance, I also learned a lot. Thank you.

Phenomenal. Mendelssohn would have loved this performance; he also would have loved the generosity of Maxim Vengerov, Antonio Pappano and all the orchestra in those difficult times. Thank you so, so much.
6:41 Loved how you brought out the contrast in phrases between open E string and E with finger. Excellent performance and recording with friendly reminders of hot merchandise (mostly) between movements 🤗

This interpretation of Mendelssohn's a breath of fresh air. The opening phrase is so delicate and not rushed. It was so beautiful that i had to replay that part 10 times. Greetings from the Philippines! 🇵🇭
I literally grew up with your recordings. You were my musical inspiration to keep going and search endless for the ultimate beauty and power in music. Now being a professional musician 20 years later, on my way to a rehearsal with Barenboim, I still enjoy your sound like a beautiful old wine with soo many facets. Thank you for your inspiration! God bless you!
this is the most incredible performance, wow.
GOAT violinist, GOAT performance
Passion without showing off. Very nice. Good coordination of style solist/orchestra. Both the orchestra and conductor were new to me but turned out to be lovely. Small extra details to love even more here and there. Thank you for making this available!
So happy to live in the youtube years, watch and listen is much better than just listen. What an extraordinary musician, what an orchestra.
this is incrible, sounding great, bow control is perfect bravo

Just like when I saw him play 25 years ago. Like fine wine. Bravo.
How incredibly enjoyable it must be for the flute player to be playing such a lovely duet with the soloist at the beginning of the third movement... Brava to all, soloist, conductor and orchestra, for a wonderful performance of this timeless masterpiece!
I remember that you mentioned you haven't played Mendelssohn's violin concerto for 20 years! Phenomenal performance as always!

So, then it would be a nice way to show appreciation by making a KZread with all 26, and some relevant commentary between them….and make it available for free on KZread…it’s asking a lot, but as my Rabbi told us, if you have x$ to give, then reach deep in your pockets and find 1 dollar more.
pls make more of the Maxim Vengrov’s View video so I can watch it for my violin practice!!!! ❤❤❤
😁😁😁Dear Maxim Vengerov! Your music is a great strength and comfort to me! 😁😁😁)
Baruch Hashem for this MAGNIFICENT performance. Wonderful collaborative force with orchestra, conductor, and soloist. Bravo to all. Thank you, Maestro Vengerov. You have captured Felix(zt'l)'s soul. Your instrument speaks and sings. Straight to my heart. I have a soft spot for the Russian school: Heifetz, Oistrakh, now YOU. My late husband (zt'l) , originally from Odessa, and a wonderful orchestral Double Bass player. Such memories accompanying him. I will be listening to your performances every day. Again, Spasibo. 😢

Magnificent job, Maxim! Even the orchestra musicians were visibly in awe and enjoying this collaborative masterpice that you were all creating.
What a fantastic video! Thank you so much for camera angles! It was more of a lesson than a concert, in a way! So much to learn from the wonderful, sublime Vengerov! Thank you, Mr Vengerov, for helping me improve my bowing and vibrato without you even trying! ☀️☀️🌹🌹🌹🌻🌻🌻
Thank you 😍 I'm so honored to listen to you Mr. Vengerov💙
In my own opinion, this is one of the very best interpretations of this masterpiece.
This is one of my favorite violin concertos. This is an exquisite performance. Thank you so much for posting.
Great performance! Bravo Maksim and the orchestra with conductor!
I like the Russian shirts, worn by Vengerov and the conductor. Comfortable, cool. Better than suit coats.
Magnificent interpretation and performance! Big difference with most well-known performances from the past.
Oh, to be able to emulate that perfectly even and smooth bowing, without at all being distracted by the virtuosity of the left!
After learning of his weight lifting episode years ago , I noticed him giving a lot of master classes. I figured his playing days were finished. I heard his young attempt at the Felix concerto. His playing was so good that I searched KZread to find someone who could equal his artistry. I couldn't. Hearing his most recent attempt finally gave me something more amazing. An attempt after twenty years is so remarkable. He is possibly the greatest violinist to ever live.
The best in the world!
Amazing! Absolutely perfect!👍👍👍👍👍👍
thank you for posting this Maestro. You are by far my favorite violinist. I have had the good fortune to watch you live 3 times and look forward to the next opportunity.
Many commercial interruptions, the cheap always leaves us with some trouble. Very good execution, Majistral.
Greatest violin concerto ever.
Heroically played.
Oh... I got so into the performance that by the end of it I was waiting for the outburst of the crowd. And then I remembered: it was one of those pandemic performances.
Extraordinary performance! Undoubtedly the best living violinist!! Bravo maestro👏👏👏👏
That extended note at around 3:45 is insane lol :) This is my favourite concerto by a long way :)
Amazing play, but the play is interrupted by advertisements regrettably... I don't think this is allowed. hope these to be made move to the beginning of the video.

Beautiful sound and interpretation!! Great!! Thank you so much!!!
I love listening to your performances. Your articulations are so different than other performers many times and they bring such a freshness for me, a different way of listening to the piece(s). I get a new interpretation every time and love it.

U maakt mij gelukkig dank hiervoor.
I had an emotional day. This helped me release so much stress and anxiety. Truly beautiful.
My favourite version of my favourite violin concerto. The way in which he phrases passages with beautiful rise and fall as well as the glissando up to certain notes and phrasing of individual notes conveys a feeling. Hilary's is great for precision and clean notes, but this has buckets of emotional feeling. Pity is the ads interrupting such a beautiful performance.
Mr. Vengerov’s quick head movements on and off the chin rest, starting at 22:37 captured superbly the subtle mood change of the phrase. Amazing!
breathtakingly wonderful !
An amazing and virtuosic performance! 🤩
Great performance. I love the tempo
Singing with your violin as usual, another great concerto - congrats
