Maxim Vengerov - 'Playing by Heart'
Музыка
Russian born Maxim Vengerov is one of the greatest violinists in the world. This documentary captures the maestro at 23, already at his peak and performing with the world's leading orchestras and conductors. This profile explores his musical artistry, at work with Daniel Barenboim and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and with students of the Royal Academy in London. This film gives a private glimpse of the man off duty, away from his professional responsibilities.

Translations of the Russian Parts- 1. 14:00 Yes, I am strict because I am interested in professional training/education. Just smiling kindly to a child and giving him an A grade (she says 5 because that's the best grade in Russia) for what? It isn't interesting and the student doesn't need that either. 2. (conductor) ? You did the same thing yesterday. Please. 3. 15:24 When he was five years old (not sure of what she said, maybe because I can't hear the part properly), they came to me for a class at ten in the morning, not really early though. I saw that he let down his hands (they hung limp), his eyes were heavy with sleep and he doesn't pick up, doesn't play, just stands there, I didn't know what was wrong with him. And then he says, "They forced me to practice at night." I said, "What do you mean, at night?" His mother was there with him at the class and she said, "Yes it is necessary to practice for three hours every day. My husband and I were at work the whole day, we came back home, gave him a little bit of time to sleep at night and then from 11 to 2 at night (she says at night) we were practicing. He needs to practice for three hours every day!" 4. 28:05 - His mastery outgrew all my opportunities. Right now, I can't tell him anything/say anything to him. There's a famous saying/expression that every pedagogue must strive, as early as possible, to be unneeded/unnecessary to his student. And factually, it has been a long time that Maxim has no need of a pedagogue. Factually, he has been alone from the age of sixteen. I did my job. And his creative development is due to the contact with wonderful conductors, pianists like Daniel Barenboim. This is already a great level of artistic development. 5. 34:18 This is not only a question of will, The hands must also listen. This isn't just art, This is also a sport for fingers, it is the training of muscles. If he wasn't taught from the age of four and was taught from the age of twelve, then the lack of technical intercourse (?) and the ... of the instrument wouldn't have given him the opportunity to express his talent as a musician. That is why I am very happy for him. Why am I proud? I am proud due to the fact that this talent wasn't wasted.
"It's like when you leave home as a young person, and you come back much later after having made your life. Your home is the same, looks the same, and yet, it is different. It is different because of the way you perceive it. It is different because of the journey." -Barenboim My favourite quote ever

Because someone watched a video about a violinist, the world would be better? okay then, guess that will stop violence of all sorts. Let's gather around and listen to some tunes. Joking aside, this is a good documentary that does need a bit more recognition.
I can't recall previously standing up in front of my computer & enthusiastically clapping with the rest of the crowd as I did witnessing this Genius
He has such strong character, not just in his playing, but everywhere else.
His mama.....such a lovely lady! And like all mums, she wants her son to have a girl who understands him like his mama
His master classes are wonderful, true treasure for a music learner!
If I could play a piece, any piece, with such intensity, aggression and yet clarity focus and precision as Maxim Vengerov, I would be a happy musician.
I don’t play the violin but I enjoyed this immensely
I've watched this several times already and I don't get tired of it. It just keeps me inspired to just live... To love... Maxim Vengerov's music helps me with that.
He's teaching people to make music in present time with feeling.
i'm watching this for only 15 mins and i learned how to talk music in my playing, to play music like how a child plays his toys, to make drama out of the music, it just takes away my mind out of the technical side and savor the music. i just enjoy it and it adds more fun in my practicing, i love music more from this day on.
This has to be my favourite music documentary ever! Have watched it twice in 24 hrs, and will watch again and again. What Vengerov’s mother said about her son is true: He is a musician with heart, a good man, a big heart for everybody. Thank you so much for this documentary.
i still dont feel like enough people know about him in the U.S. He's brilliant

@@MsPea I think you're misunderstanding me. I have seen Vengerov in concert and he is one of the most flawless players in the world. However, in the video, the gloves muddle the intonation and he is also using a junk violin/bow for the frigid weather. It was an artistic choice for the snowy background, not a musical one.
He is a masterpiece. He creates masterpieces. He transmits the music like nobody else. I feel every note maxim. Continue spreading your love and happiness throughout the world. You make it a better place.
I've had the privilege of attending a Vengerov recital with the Brahms sonatas. So wonderful!
Oh, that tambourin chinoise make me remember my old days !!!!!! Maxim is the best.
WOW, music is... I just can’t even find a word to describe it...
So difficult technically to stay in tune, manage all the complications of the bow, and get "it all" together, but that is only just the start! To make the music sound great is the real challenge! Plenty are able to cope with the former, not too many the latter! Essentially an impossible instrument, but oh so fantastic when all comes together! Love it!
I was lucky enough to see these 2 together in this masterpiece live.Oh words are not good enough it is just the feeling from the music the way they play it that makes you soar.
I'm so happy watching this.
King of the Violin 👑👑
I have been to HIS masterclass!!!! Maximisa GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will go again to the orchestral masterclass by Vengerov soon! Hooray!!!!!!!!!1
Definition of perfection on the violin. so brilliante!
Maestro Vengerov, I adore you! You are best of the best! ;)
Thank you! No question that he is one of the greatest violinist.
I think I finally really undertood what music is after watch so many vengerov masterclasses
Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, wonderful piece.
I bought a CD of his when I was 13 because he had a spectacular face. I listened to it over and over again, because it was energetic and wonderful. Now, as a married 28 year-old woman, I listen to him because of the spectacular sound. There is no better violinist. Keep it up, Vengerov!
Vengerov is The Violin God. Wonder who are those 57 people hitting thumbs down. Jealous competition, or just plain ignorant of great music/talent. Probably JB fans....lol
È talmente bello ascoltarlo che ogni volta mi faccio un "piantino" per la commozione. Bravissimo è dir poco...Stupendo. Grazie ❤
Great video about a great guy. Many thanks for posting it!
"The oboe was somewhere in the woods" LOL

This video reminded me to love my instrument, and love what I do. Thank you so much!!!!!
Obrovský zážitok vidieť a precítiť hru,názory a výučbu mladých talentov!Bravo Maestro Vengerov!Fantastický huslista!Anika.
I Love Vengerov's musicality. since i've seen this i've decided i'm going to try to be more musical now.

MOI AUSSI!
Great documentary, although shame there's no subtitles in places for his teacher Galina Turchaninova.
pure genius
He is in the very great Russian tradition of uncountable violin artists. Sometimes he reminds me the young David Oistrakh, but with his very own style (and charm )
I love how he played his violin. So elegant, so free, such enjoyment. It's man and music in one.
So wonderful! Thank you very much!
So inspirational. Maxim Vengerov is surely the best.
I love him
I didn't expect to watch the whole video, but I ended up watching. Words cannot describe how impressed I am with this man...
This is absolutely mind blowing!!!

This is absolutely delightful!
This is great! It shows that technics it's just a tool! important by the way. Playing with your heart and soul and in an expressive way is what touches the audiences heart and soul. Thanks for posting this.
One of the greatest indeed he speaks trough the violin
Heavenly. Absolutely beautiful !!! ☻
What an amazing artist.
Wow! This doc was so beautiful on so many levels!!! Life affirming!!!
Maxim Vengerov,un músico nacido en la capital de Siberia, que toca el violin como los propios angeles, simpatico, buen profesor y ademas, tiene un temperamento jovial.en fin,un fenómeno en todos los sentidos.

Maxim Vengerov is a siberian tiger.
Aside from the fact that he's a great violinist, Vengerov is always too spicy for me!
48:58 Maxim understood that borenboim whas too rough on this coord!!! That expression hahahah.. Vengerov at that age was at his peak... untouchable!
indeed!!!
Master!
The small shiny bits are pieces of alluvial gold, where I am developing a gold mining operation, but I am still able to play my old French fiddle, of course not like Maxim or Itzhak, but such fun trying to work my way through difficult spectacular fiddle pieces!!
He IS the best for so many reasons, technical ability is a SMALL part of his talent. His understanding is most of it.
Qué grande :D
Wonderful documentary! But it's a shame that each of the teacher's interviews weren't overdubbed in english. Does anyone have an idea of what she is saying? Sadly english is my only language :(
