MAX THE CAT - Filmed In Extreme First-person Mode

Ойындар

The sad thing is, the developer put more into their game than I did into this video. It's a BoSGT first!

  • @JohnnyOstad

The jump speed, collision response and overall animations were dull, another thing is that this is not pixel art (some assets look like pixel art but overall it is not) , if the developer had gone the pixel art route it would have looked much better.

You are right. This would still not be good enough for Nintendo or Sega at the time but for PC in the early 90s and late 80s very little is out of place (PC platform games were kind of awful).

  • @timpize8733

Yeah, no jumping animation is hard to ignore. Also, there's a too high resolution for it to look 8 bits, or too few details for 16 bits, so it looks like early nineties cheap games a generetion too late. Not the best era for a retro style. They should have gone full Master System.

When I refer to 8-bit graphics/colours i mean that i have used a limited palate of 256 colours, and a maximum of 256 sounds, which are 8-bit, however when it comes to the look i've adhered more to the 16-bit console limitations era aka: scaling and the amount of colours available on each layer, also the boss fights were cut down for the trailer and game will be more than three levels long.

Peter Crosland If you do a bad job, you should be told that you did a bad job. Just because you do better than the students who got a D doesn't mean you deserve a B. A lil-explanation of "8-bit vs 16-bit": "8-bit graphics" means 256 colors max, "8-bit audio" means low quality (usually chiptunes), BUT "16-bit game" means it runs either on CPUs like Intel 386 or consoles like Sega Megadrive (which, btw, could show only 64 colors at once - meaning, while being 16-bit console, it had 8-bit graphics). So, while the game description sounds ridiculous, it is technically correct. Today's computers are 64-bit, but use 16-bit audio and 32-bit graphics.

I think I've never seen a game where it's so noticeable that it's only retro in look because they didn't have the ability to do any better. You know what was 16 bit? Earthworm Jim, and that had beautiful animation and eye popping backgrounds. This wouldn't be allowed to sit on shelves next to that.

What is the music on that graveyard stage? It's a known melody I think, but I can't recall the title.

I like the game. Smoothout the animations a bit, adjust the sounds a bit and have a graphics enthousiast touch up the assets a bit. My daughters (4 and 6) would love this game. I see no problem paying 4 or 5 euros for the finished product.

I'll be honest, this has potential. If they work a bit more on the mechanics and update the art style a little then this could actually be alright. The animations are there though they are a wee bit clunky for the most part (though the way the portal disappeared was pretty good). They could even go more into the humour of it too, which it seems they attempted with the weird concept of it. In short, it's pretty good. I wouldn't play it as is but I'd consider it if they worked on it a bit more.
