This is the EXACT kind of video I want to see. I'd love to see videos exactly like this on as many other stats as possible, as Im the type of player who would do a build like this just for the sheer stupidity of it.

@@Cryobin The fun part about this game, is that ANY stupid build, if used right, COULD annoy the everliving dickens out of an opponent. So theres always that TEMPTATION to try. Optimal or not. Like I'm STILL planning to make a Grenade Spam kit thats just sub saver and ink recovery. and NOTHING ELSE.

I think the moral of the story is don’t invest in a perfect outfit of all special power up because the third one never lasted much longer than the second one and it literally doesn’t even have any special power up sub abilities 😭 great video!

i can’t believe people say this. i feel like tacticooler is the worst special in the game. especially compared to splatoon 2’s ink armor.. sheesh. i used to main zap and now i see no reason to ever use it again. splattershot is a better choice 100% of the time. i might even be annoyed if somebody on my team used tons of SPU on their tacticooler.. rendering my ninja squid completely useless for nearly a full 30 seconds?!???

@@kid12j Why'd they bring up ninja squid, though? Okay there's no reason to use it, but if you don't want your ninja squid nullified then don't pick it up?? I don't see why that was a point to bring up was the point I was trying to make.

Booyah Bomb, Wail, Wave Breaker and Cooler could use a bit of SPU and the rest seem pretty much garbage (Tristrike could use SPU on some RM maps maybe) Perhaps Reefslider isn't that bad with SPU, mainly because the weapons it's on don't even have much else to offer

I think the Wail and Cooler are the best choices for SPU. A few extra seconds never hurt

Plus, those few extra seconds of Tacticooler means a wider buffer window for instant respawn if you get splatted, AND you can start rebuilding your special as a Tacticooler user with plenty of buff time remaining

special power up is a contender for worst ability in the game rn. oof. although it's actually pretty effective on tacticooler, but who know how useful that extra duration may be

I feel like the only good thing about using Special Power Up with Tacticooler is it just replaces the slots you probably would have put like the Speed Ups

It’s interesting that pures do not give the biggest increase in abilities but I would assume that’s to discourage players from only using one ability as carrying a few will be much more beneficial to you in game

Yeah, it's even more discouraged because you have less of a chance of getting the same ability multiple times. That didn't stop me from trying though

Optimally, yeah putting anything else of those sub slots are a better choice. Though I do like the Zipcaster lasting longer even if it's a slight bit.

I think I got more satisfaction getting the entire set then toying around with it. Still wish some specials got a bigger boost from the sub slots

Does special power up affect the speed at which you jump to the big bubbler beakon in the same way sub power up affects squid beakons?

I'm sure it has entirely different stats now with Special Power Up, although the patch sorta implies that there wouldn't be a difference if you maximized SPU

Yea just estimating it crab was like 9 seconds and special power up gave it 9 and a half now its 8 for the update so special power up might give it 9 seconds

What I gathered is don’t use it, and if you do, don’t waste time on getting in anywhere but the main slot

what ive learned is that its better to just 3 have 3 special power ups rather than a full stack

Since zipcaster runs on a separate ink tank using ink saver main has the same effect as special power up

In a way, but Ink Saver Main has a better effect when you want to fire more weapon shots in the Zipcaster. Special Power Up would be used if you wanted to grapple more or just be in the Zipcaster longer.

Oh so it's a noticeable boost? Guess I'll at least get some sub abilities of it.

Could you make a comparison that includes one main? Usually people would use 1 main and not 3 mains or a pure on abilities

I'd like to give special attention to Damage Up

So, basically, 3 piers and mains of Special Power Up equal goof on ONLY Tacticooler, Tenta Missiles and Ink Vac. Noted

I gotta play tableturf again lmao

Kinda sad how garbage it is on some specials, seems like it packs the most punch on Cooler and is actually worth it having 3 mains, with maybe some charge up subs.

Zipcaster and Kraken Royale are probably the most fun, the extra seconds are pretty noticeable when your using it in a match. Maybe it's not optimal and it won't help win the whole match, but if I'm bored, I give it another shot

so its usually not worth it to go full special power up, gotcha

Smh for pure gear id expect the upgrade to be a lot more its just like 2 or 3 seconds more time of special.

Now i know why noone uses this :)

SPU max is 8, can never go higher than two quad gears.

Yeah, those extra 2 seconds might do 30 extra damage at best and that's assuming someone hasn't moved out of the way

@@Cryobin yeah, it’s pretty much the exact same from splat2. Meaning you might as well just get special charge up, or some other abilities for it. Was hoping in this game, that maybe the radius would go up with SPU, and maybe the damage might have a slightly quicker tick rate.

Does the drink last longer for your teammates?

It's more like the sub abilities are being extremely affected by dimenishing returns If anything that's about 6 main abilitys, it's just becomes more stale when of the same ability gets stacked

I thought having too many of one gear ability caused staleness...

It's just to specify the bonus it gets from the ability. I just subtracted the results with abilitys from the base amount. I didn't think it was that helpful, so in later videos I changed it to the percentage increase

Wouldn’t splatfest tee give two more Special Power Up abilities? not entirely sure tho

Yeah, I want a Wave Breaker that covers half the map. At least some of these specials could do a lot more, but I think they just want to try and keep things balanced.

Pretty much Zipcaster is the only one that gets a good benefit from getting one extra throw and maybe Tacticooler might save you or a teammates instant respawn with the extra second.

i use sub power up subs to put on gear that has an ability chunk i need, so yes, very worthless
