When you're THE lead guitarist. I've listened to music for over 30 years now and I've played guitar and other instruments for over 20 years; I've listened to hundreds of thousands of artists and millions of songs. I've gone through Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Steve Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Django Reinhardt, Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, John Lee Hooker and many more. I've so far, at age of 34 never been more impressed, entertained, mesmerized or happy and all at the same time. You're the best, Max.

He's literally playing with his eyes closed... drifting into the notes rarely finding a visual point on the fretboard. If you are a guitar player - try it! It's like playing in the dark. Now go ahead and attempt to hit that harmonic note with your right hand at about fret 20 without looking 2:02 Best of luck if you can do it in a lifetime... Max is astonishingly talented and I love watching his playing through time.

I have no idea how it's possible, but I've read some comments saying "this isnt music" & "no feeling, just fast playing for the sake of being fast". Listen, folks. Max is the best of the best. He has maximum economy. That means not wasting any muscle movement while playing. Guitar faces arent mandatory. He's telling a story through his notes & how he's arranged them. He is an absolute master of the art. I have no idea how someone could witness this & say anything other than how impressive it is. That's almost as mindblowing as the kid himself. Sorry, Max. Dont listen to those people. They have absolutely no idea what it means to be a good musician.

Leaving aside the obvious virtuosity (which is what will garner the most oohs! and ahhhs!), there are so many musically interesting ideas in his playing, that make this much more interesting than a lot of the fusion playing doing the rounds these days or in the past! I’m just not hearing it. To me it sounds like a total lack of actual catchy and memorable melodies, and just a bunch of generic weird jazzy sounding lines over jazzy sounding chord progressions, albeit played with an insanely amazing technicality. Elevator music, basically…I just can’t get into it, personally. But then again I grew up during the grunge era, Cobain playing an E major and then a C major and singing some crazy lyrics over it is the end of the world for me, it stops my heart. Haha…maybe Nirvana ruined me :(

Max, one of the best out there atm. He flows with such ease, with chops and technique to spare but still sounding melodic. None of his absolute shreddery comes off as just to shred. Well done my friend.

The best thing about this guy's playing is how he always seems to use his shredding to amplify his phrasing, not just for the sake of being fast. Shredding with purpose.

@@drewb5775 No doubt about it EVH is a legend who popularized the whole two handed tapping thing but the level of the game has gone up since then. I actually think that the most technically proficient guitarists pre 2K were guys like John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman among others. However… not even those guys are at the level of Guthrie Govan, Plini, Tim Henson and the other current guitar virtuosos. Everything evolves man… everything!
