Ray Park never did the voice of Maul, just the look and lightsabee fights, his lines were dubbed over in the Phantom Menace. Sam perfectly replicated the original, and actually in the Solo movie they had him dub over Ray Park's appearance!

@laserbeamlightning Honestly, I'd be fine bringing Starkiller back, but I'd prefer if they did so completely separate from Vader and the normal time period. I'd really, really like them to tell some stories divorced completely from the Skywalker saga. Make him a rogue Sith apprentice from like 1000 years ago. It would free them up from so many constraints, allow them to avoid retconning yet another aspect of the world or story, and open up this enormous galaxy and it's dozen of millennia of history. Plus, Starkiller is awesome and doesn't need it to specifically be Vader to make the story work.

@@dstil4 He's not canon at this time, so they can bring him into the franchise in any way they like, he doesn't HAVE to be Vader's apprentice. The name Starkiller was originally going to be Luke's last name, but Lucas changed it. What you're saying is equivalent to me saying that Starkiller can't be used because it's the origins of Skywalker, which would be ridiculous. And he's right. Everything shouldn't be tied to the Skywalker saga.

Sam Witwer's a cool dude. Met him at a pretty quiet and relaxed con. The floor was pretty dead, so I walked over to his booth from ours and chatted. Dude's just one of us who was lucky enough to get inside.

@@xanderm6090 The problem with that is, it is established in the Revenge of the Sith Novelization, that Anakin last fought Dooku, on Geonosis during Episode II. So in this regard, Filoni is contradicting Continuity, at least where Legends is concerned, and yes.... TCW is part of both Legends and Canon.

Which, imo, makes Filoni a good boss. He acknowledged his mistake and fixed it. What a great boss to have. And what other director actually discusses things with his actors, nontheless actually listen to them when they do. If you watch the full interview, Sam goes on to praise Filoni and is knowledge of Star Wars. Bet the two nerds had fun talking to one another.

Agreed. This line slipped by Lucas, Filoni, and the rest of the writers, I feel bad for whoever wrote this dialogue, but Sam was like, 'Actually..." Wish he was there for the making of the Sequels, or there to tell Lucas not to sell Lucasfilm.

To be clear, this is why it's GOOD to have a bunch of people who love a franchise come together. We're all imperfect. We can all slip up. Having people around who can correct problems before they're finalized is actually one of the best parts of teamwork. And to be 100%, Anakin learned the truth later in Episode 1. His mom didn't meet Padme as Padme(because Padme was pretending to be her own handmaiden/body double), so we could always pull a "from a certain point of view" to clear that up(not that fans have ever really accepted the original).

He deserves an executive producer title or something on the show 😂

This is why it is important to always have a lore expert on site for any new stories in an established universe.

It wasn't really, Legends was never considered part of Lucas's universe, only the Original Trilogy and the Prequels, and Clone Wars. And since Lucas was the co-writer, this also means that it slipped by him as well.

I swear they need to let Sam do something. Like some people have said in the comments, at least direct or produce something, at least he hasn’t to my knowledge but like now that EA doesn’t have the sole rights to make Star Wars games, nows the time to make a Force Unleashed sequel or remake/reboot. Or bring him in as an inquisitor or something else or if it is as starkiller, I personally don’t care if he’s nerfed, I mean technically canon Luke is nerfed to an extent, so whatever. Sam just deserves to get his moment, from days gone and voicing Darth maul, he’s got the skills and the passion, and it’s the passion that I worry makes him seem controlling to some of the higher ups, kinda like Henry Cavill. Sam at least from what I’ve seen, seems to give a shit about Star Wars and that’s what we need now more than ever, someone who understands the parallels and nuisances and layered meaning and shit and all that stuff and he seems to be just that.

So, the fact that this was about to enter the recording stage means that Filoni, Lucas, and anyone else who saw the script before this would have missed this. There is an entire team working on it, including Lucas who was very involved with the show and although was never credited as such, he was pretty much the co-writer of the show since he had a lot more input than most executive producers of shows, similar to KK now and Avi Arad with the Spider-Man films. You need to do much better research into this stuff kid instead of taking the word of one guy you saw in a comment section who based his knowledge of Lucas's role off the credits, which are close to never accurate in terms of what happens behind the scenes.

A, Lucas wrote the arc, so he would've missed this, b, we don't even know if Filoni wrote this line, there was co-writer, Lucas, and multiple other writers working on Clone Wars, and c, even if Filoni is the one that wrote the line, everyone else in the writing room would've missed this mistake as well. Also, name anything that Filoni contradicted? You guys always say this, but I've read a lot of Legends and cannon, and I can't think of a thing that Filoni has made a contradiction of? Do you mean a writing mistake, because yeah, all writers have this, including Lucas, but I can't think of a contradiction he has had.

@@burtreynolds8030 You know that whole "don't know how lightsabers work" thing was because he put a vibroblade originally instead of the darksaber and GL just didn't like it, but the vibroblade wasn't some thing he made up. It's been in Star Wars EU stuff since at least the late 80's. George not liking it is something of itself which was remedied because he was there to talk with them about it, but by no means does Dave Filoni not understand lightsabers he was using preestablished EU lore that Lucas happened not to like.

This is a problem that is actually frequent in The Clone Wars and even the Live-action shows. As much as people say Filoni is an authority on the lore, he makes a lot of continuity errors like this.

Gotta take a lot of that into account though. Rebels came out literally just when they were establishing a brand-new lore, Disney made him make that awful Sequel show, Disney also made him revive Ahsoka because money, and I don't know what happened with Ahsoka. But probably Disney interference once again, it makes sense why he tries to add more Legends stuff into the Star Wars universe since that's what he grew up with. Disney clearly needs better lore people on staff because I don't think many of the writers know much about cannon Star Wars. And then of course Disney continues to stick their noses into the shows and movies to try to be more inclusive, nothing wrong with that, just the way they shove into your face gets annoying, and forcing them to do a lot of stuff in the shows as well. All of these factors are what continue to give us mediocre project after mediocre project, and then of course you have the straight up awful ones like the Sequels and the awful characters like Reva. And don't forget how they ruined lightsaber duels. Star Wars is just in an ugly place right now. The best decision for Disney would have been to just make the Legends material cannon since they had four decades of work practically wrapped up with a bow for them to use. Then Star Wars wouldn't be such a mess. All things considered though, the Star Wars comics Marvel has made are actually really good, it's really just the shows and movies that are a hot mess.

More like the entire production group of Clone Wars, this would've slipped by a lot of others, not just Dave. All the more reason to get Sam in as the new CEO of Lucasfilm.

And at least someone admitted that this slipped past George to, everyone else I've told that to has acted like I'm an idiot, and I didn't even have to tell you! We need some reliable people in charge of Lucasfilm, and maybe take Disney out of the picture as well.

One, when is it ever said that he wrote this line? Two, Lucas was the lead writer of this arc. And three, you're basically saying that every writer ever that written a film/show is creatively bankrupt since all writers will take ideas from other shows or films or books, just because you're taking inspiration from something does not mean that you're creatively bankrupt.

Love this guy! And yes, no matter how much you know, there's always someone who knows more, lol.

Do we know if Filoni wrote this line? No, we don't, so we don't really know if this is actually his fault, and even it is, Lucas and multiple other writers would have missed this. They were in the recording process with this script, so a shitload of people would have missed this mistake, so we can't say for sure if this Filoni's fault or not. Not to mention that Lucas wrote the majority of this arc, so it is a fact he would've missed this silly mistake.

Feloni is a terrible writer.

Or, Anakin's canonically really good at compartmentalizing & keeping different stories for different people & he's not super eager to tell his mom "remember the space lady we met when I was only a few years out of diapers? She's sooooo into me now!"

Dave Faloni used to be a man I respected being one of the people that respected the original works... But even he seem to make statements and make changes to star wars based on fanfiction because he wants the same "creative freedom" as the other guys if he thinks its cooler... Bruh you cant go against established lore just because its not practical to what you have planned.. You dont alter established lore, you fix your flaw.

Sam: *mentions a main part of the Phantom Menace* Dave: *proceeds to reconsider all of his life decisions*

I just imagine all of these guys sitting in a room together.

I've said this to multiple people, but Lucas wrote this arc and created Ahsoka, not to mention that Filoni was against Ahsoka coming back and Disney forced him to do so because she made money, plus the fact that we don't even know if Filoni wrote this line. You Filoni haters are stretching incredibly far with this one.

Because Filoni is a hack.
