    A galore of companies make tracks, I'd take a lot of research comparing. These have nice articulation and look good.

    I SOOO want this track conversion but I could use some info. before purchase. What type of differential would be best for this track conversion (open, limited slip, locker)? Should any area of the truck be strengthened (suspension parts, steering components, axles, drive line)? Pick-up trucks were designed with wheels. Track conversions were designed to replace the wheels (obviously for massive gains in traction). So I want to know how to prepare my truck and improve the necessary components if I have to. If nothing has to be beefed up, that's great but if something has to be strengthened (e.g. axles, etc.) or changed (e.g. diffs from open to lockers), that's fine too. But I'd rather find out on a forum rather than find out on the trail.

    My thoughts are that they seem to be fragile as the guy goes so slow when approaching anything. What's the "mileage" as they don't seem like they would be easy to take on and off.

    what stops the whole assembly from rotating all the way around in a high torque situation

  • @aXBlackDeathXa

    @aXBlackDeathXa

    7 жыл бұрын

    There is a torsion type bar/bracket used. You can clearly see them hanging down for the rear - they mount to the front leaf spring eyelet then to the tracks. For the front there is a special bracket that bolts on the knuckle where the tie rod mounts for similar purpose.

    I went to the official website of mattracks to see if I can order these to outside the US. but I didn't find anything about making deals from outside the US. is there any other way?

    There is another way but you might not like it and it takes a long time. You're going to have to design and build your own. Talk to engineers and fabricators and other specialists. Create a mock-up, a model and test it. This is where you should find all the big problems. Then it's on to the prototype stage. This is where you'll be making all your fine tuning to the finished product.

    The issue of Street Legal... has anyone addressed this or knows the answer? (Not that if there was 3 feet of snow on the ground, a cop would be able to even function anyway.) But still. Anyone know?

    I'll admit they look cool. Even a little impressive. But I'm guessing that whatever the cost of installation is (if not less) you could install a set of big tires with a lift kit. At least then you could drive it on the street. About the only practical advantage i can think of with the tracks is they would eliminate the possibility of a flat tire.

  • @garyvallone5393

    Tracks put way less pressure on the ground. A lift and big tires dont help much with snow and deep mud where flotation is needes

    That question is the one I've been wondering about most. Street legality. I'm not seeing anything about these tracks that should disqualify them from street use. Rubber treads, definitely won't hurt pavement. Nothing about the rest of the vehicle's street legal systems have changed, thinking lighting, horn, wipers, etc. As long as you're not on a high speed motorway where you're expected to do far faster than the treads are capable of. Just surface streets should be fine, which is where I spend 99% of my time. Got physically snowed in last winter for first time in my life (was 56). Temps here can get to and stay at -40F for months, and the snow, well technically there's no limit. It just sort of spooked me, being new in this climate, and the idea of being stranded inside a box and unable to get TF outta here if I wanted to. Don't like that feeling. Tracks would solve that. Neighbors would like me too, cause I'd be saving their asses all day.

    Absolutely nothing tires couldn't do, except you're paying almost the price of the vehicle just to have tracks? And then you can't do more than 50 kph without cooking off the rubber. Woo. .__.

    you want to go off roading with your truck, and take it out fishing in the winter, it is cheaper to buy these then it is for the lift kit, allot less effort to install these then it is to install a lift kit, and you dont have to buy new tires, you just put these on when you get to the trail or to the lake you want to drive out on.
