I'm 80 now~ but in the 70s I was a bartender and an alcoholic ~ tough life and a lot of times being beaten and cheated on. In 1980 I FINALLY found AA meetings. Kept going until it sunk in! You love yourself and I found a better life! I'm 43 years sober! My kids are proud of me and so am I!

I do not blame anyone -- my drinking got me into every scrape I had and alcohol always was in the mix. If you are struggling -- there is hope and yes -- you will have a far better life and one that is beyond anything you could have imagined. I hope Matthew can fully understand how his candidness in addressing his addiction will inevitably lead to others being able to have honest conversations with themselves and the ones they love, and ultimately result in many seeking help. Especially with respect to opiate addiction. It's no secret that opiate addiction has become a global issue that should no longer be ignored, but unfortunately it still is. Of any addiction, I think opiate addiction is the most pernicious, as it generally comes from a place of trust, we are far more susceptible to succumb to something given to us in good faith, but the warnings that accompany opiate prescription are either woefully under exaggerated or absent entirely. When someone like Matthew comes forward with their story, it helps to open up that conversation, while the fact Perry is such a well known, successfully and broadly appreciated talent, his message can be seen from a more human perspective and shine a light on the reality of such addictions, with no one being beyond the pull of these medications.

The problem with addiction is that it's always looking over your shoulder waiting for the opportunity to pull you back in. I've seen and heard of so many who had 1, 2, 10, 20 years relapse and die from an overdose. Sad but true. True recovery means that you go to meetings daily, get a sponsor and stay in touch, develop a true support system of people that not only care for you, also hold you accountable daily. Be completely honest with others and especially yourself.

I had a massive crush on Chandler and I noticed him getting sick and wondered for a while what it could be until it made public news that he was battling addiction. My God , the bowel perforation 😳 As a nurse I know how close he came to the other side. Wow. I still care about the cast and Google them occasionally as it is reminiscent of my youth and working in the city. I wish nothing but the best for him. Grateful that he shares about his depression and anxiety that drove him to self medicate and abuse drugs and alcohol. This helps so many people that I doubt he can fathom. ❤ There’s no more lonely feeling than feeling that you are the only one who feels a certain way. Sharing helps us all. ❤

It’s amazing to see so many strangers rooting for a guy they don’t know, probably for 99,9% never met either. I think it must be because as audience and bystanders everyone including myself has got the clear feeling that Matthew Perry is a nice guy. So we want only the best for him 🙂👍

His struggle really breaks my 💜! I look back at Friends & realized he was my favorite! Funny & Hot, a winning combo. I wish u all the best Matt; u deserve so much 💜! U are so strong & brave, stronger than u can imagine. Your best role is valiant Matt, who has overcome so many obstacles, many times over, when the first time would’ve broken anyone. You are a beautiful soul who inspires all and makes us want to be a better version of ourselves! Thank U for your honesty, Candor, and vulnerability. You are my hero & an extraordinarily beautiful soul. Wishing you love, health, happiness, and continued sobriety.💛🌟🥰🎁✝️

I absolutely adore his insights about feeling insecure in relationships. Men are absolutely conditioned these days to be insecure about ourselves. And in dating it's especially difficult to feel at peace with yourself, especially when you're with someone who you're genuinely physically (and emotionally) attracted to. I did this dance with my wife for months before I finally let go and allowed myself to be vulnerable with her. It coincided with the death of one of my best friends, so she had to be my emotional support during a very hard time for me. To this day (16 years later), I love her for that. Fellas, even celebrities like Matthew Perry get scared of interesting, beautiful women. Embrace your fear. Seek out someone you really, really want.

Sadly enough.... first time I see Matthew not goofing around or make any joke...not even a single laugh....he was definitely deeply troubled , visible affected mentally and physically fighting his demons...Rest in Peace Mathew...you made my life happier for decades... watching your show again and again since childhood.

I don't follow celebrity gossip stuff, and I don't have cable tv/satellite. I didn't know all this stuff Mathew went through. I am glad he was able to honestly enjoy sober life before he passed. I wish he could've had more years to enjoy it. 💕 to those who knew the real Mathew.

I am here because of Matthew Perry's death. He must have lived a difficult life. His body suffered too much from alcohol and pills. He must've been lucky reaching 54 years with all the abuse. I am in pain. Friends was my mental therapy. Saved me from depression. Just too sad that people like Matthew Perry who have saved many people from sadness struggled from saving themselves. God bless his soul. You will be missed Chandler Bing/Alex Whitman.

Strange how different minds work, I was an alchoholic for twenty years, then I decided to talk myself out of alcholism by picturing myself in the future as either dead from alcohol or causing damage to my friends and family, I did this evereyday for a month. then walking down some stairs in a building one day I pictured myself leaving that building and the alcohol behind, it worked no AA just left it behind, and now 15 years on I can walk into a bar with my wife order her a drink, and the joke always is don't worry about me I'll stand in the corner and kick the cat, but seriously I just gave up the booze that day and the rest of my happy life is history, I just hope Mathew can see the end of that shiny tunnel that leads to a happy life as well, good luck mate from a sober Aussie.
