@@greenbeagle13 They are not foolish. Since the bizarre rise of flat earthers, many studies/research has been done into how people who once understood how science and reality works can become so thoroughly convinced about these veracity of obviously ridiculous anti-science theories. It's been likened to the mind control of cults, it's more complicated than that of course, and partially depends on the strength of your admiration for and affiliation with the conspiracy monger/spreader, as well as the depths of the person's subconscious need to belong to that group (even just 1 particular person in it), he can immediately change his brain to fit in to the prevailing group think. It fascinating. Haven't heard much about it since the weird days of the rabid pizza-gate believers and flat earther's big explosion, so I don't remember who was doing this work, or out of where. I knew a man who was just in his late 40s who I was told had a heart condition that after a night of drinking went home and took a very hot shower and then went to bed but suffered a heart attack and passed away. I had just met him a few days before and it was so shocking bc he was young and looked healthy. It was in China and the Chinese people I was staying with told me that there is a belief that one should never take a hot shower while drunk as it could lead to heart failure. At the time I thought it might be an old wive’s tale meant to discourage drinking but now I wonder if there is any truth to that.

Hot bath will dilate the blood vessels which will make the blood pressure low. If the blood pressure is too low, the natural reaction of the body is to faint. The idea is that you fall to the ground and more blood (which is most importantly oxygen and glucose supply) is available for your brain than if you were standing. However, if one faints in water there is a risk of drowning. If a person is drunk, i.e. can't control him/herself particularly well, the risk is even more severe. For that reason, when under the influence of alcohol, it's best to avoid water in which it is theoretically possible to drown in general. A hot tub of course could make it more risky. As for having a hot tub and then going to bed and having a heart attack it's unlikely even if a person was drunk, there probably was a pre-existing condition of the heart which just manifested itself given the extra load the heart was subjected to.

I’m actually shocked not more people die in hot tubs. I had a friend come extremely close to passing out in a hot tub when we were drinking alcohol. We got him out of the hot tub and layed them out on the ground, and he soon recovered. His blood pressure likely bottomed out. It was so scary though! He easily could have passed out and drowned had he been alone.

This is a real thing. Hot tubs should be used with caution and never alone. I have low blood pressure naturally. When I was 20 I sat in a hot tub for too long, no alcohol involved, I felt faint so I had good enough sense to get out, but upon doing so, I then fainted and fell flat on my face. Busted my lip and had a bruised ego because my brand new neighbors had to care for me. Thank God I wasn’t alone, and that’s all that happened. This is very sad and he will be missed and remembered for his mark in the TV hall of fame!

Was in it for about forty five minutes and decided to get out . I felt dizzy, my legs were like jello and had a hard time getting out. I screamed but no one could hear me. I had a patient once who fainted in a hot tub. He had the perfect storm of causative factors. Luckily, he was not alone. He was dehydrated, drinking alcohol, and gets in a hot tub for a long time. If you are dehydrated, then expand your “vascular bed” with heat and alcohol, you are going to end up with not enough blood pressure to perfuse the brain. If you are in the hot tub alone, chances are you will die.

He made a difference and will be sorely missed. Fame was thrust upon a very insular but talented individual and how Matt chose to cope with it is a route many take to try and stop the doubting loop in their mind that they are not good enough and never will be. Learning to know you are better than all the self loathing and negative feedback back you had growing up with, is the first step back to a whole person. 🥺🙏🏼❤️

I knew the mom whose daughter had been in a hot tube drinking a glass of wine while talking to her girlfriend on a cell phone. She had recently been given a script for a short acting benzo (Xanax). She was not a long term user of benzos. But she was under a lot of stress due recent bad news and other personal things we sometimes have in life. She was a happy late twenty year old person and not suffering from depression. After taking a Xanax and while sipping on a glass of wine while talking with her girlfriend, there was sudden silence. The girlfriend returned the phone call but kept getting voice messages. Being naturally concerned, the girlfriend called a nearby family member to check on the young lady. It turned out she passed out and slipped down into the hot-tub and drowned. You would think the chocking gag response would have been enough to wake the young girl. But there was something about the hot water, the short-acting Xanax and the wine that caused this young lady to faint so deeply that even a choking gag response would not wake her. Unfortunately these things happen, even to upbeat happy people. The events are not always suicide.

Sorry for your friend's loss. Assuming she didn't ignore or didn't hear the instruction to NEVER combine benzos and alcohol, really just avoid alcohol with most meds. Dr's and/or pharm are screwing up - too many pts, not enough time and carelessness. Additionally, open heart and other major surgical pts are rx'd TYLENOL after procedures by physicians too lazy or afraid to stand up to DEA/Congress. They are also NOT properly medicating hospice and other terminal pts. Our medical system while better than a 3rd world country's care, is an embarrassing shambles. This leads to ingestion of street drugs heavily laced with fentanyl from open border and you end up with ods amongst ppl you'd never expect and an unconscionable rate among veterans who can't get their NECESSARY pain meds and end up resorting to street sales. You NEVER put the fox in charge of the hen house, which is what obummer NON affordable NON care did in addition to giving DEA and lawyers too much input into pt care, when they know NOTHING about it. Look at all the new $Bs due to mandates which Idc what you say, ARE also knocking off ppl.

That kind of sounds like an undiagnosed cardiac issue. I've known people that had issues like that that didn't get them checked out, and have died within a week with a heart attack. This happened to legendary Bollywood actress Sridevi as well. Like Ms. Houston, she too had been drinking after attending a wedding. However, as far as the media reported, she didn’t have any drug or alcohol issues. This is also how Bobbi Kistrina, Whitney Houston’s daughter died. Unfortunately, Bobby Kristina may have been drinking and taking drugs before getting into the hot tub, where she likely passed out and died. I think the lesson is not to combine alcohol with hot tubs.

Since you know about Matty's history of drug usage, I was hoping you would talk a little bit more about it and how it could have contributed to his death. Personally, I am not a doctor, but after two hours playing pickleball, being dehydrated and tired and then go to a hot tub... considering his health issues, I think his heart gave out or his tension dropped or he had a stroke. I do not believe, after reading his book, that he had a relapse... even though negative surprises are not uncommon. But I really think it was a mix of circumstances. If his assistant was at home with him, he probably wouldn't have died. I am really sad though. That man went through hell to get clean, spend six millions in treatments to improve his habits and kick his addictions off, almost died five years earlier because of a condition caused by years of drug usage... for now to die alone in his bathtub? Now that he had projects to conclude (his organization to help fellow addicts and his series "Mattman") and was ready to love and start a family... he dies. It is really unfair.

I am a senior citizen from South Africa. When hot tubs became a thing in our country naturally I tried them out at friends who had them. Very pleasant if the water temperature is good. I'm talking 1980s , had a lovely leisurely lunch with some wine, then the friends suggested we go to their place to jacuzzi. Great, got in the hot tub, bit warm for my taste. Alcohol was served and after a couple of sips I literally felt the alcohol go straight to my head. Seamed to me the heat and the bubbles escalated the effect of the alcohol. Vacated quickly. Tried it a few years later again, open air jacuzzi, some wine, when jets were out on, same thing, alcohol straight to head. Alcohol free jacuzzi after that. Horrible feelings.

As a healthy 20 something year old man I did something you should never do. I soaked in a hot tub for possibly 10 minutes and when I got out I jumped directly into the much cooler swimming pool and thankfully I was able to get to the edge of the pool because my head was spinning. I suspect it was because my blood pressure dropped dramatically from the rapid temperature change.

My theory (admittedly based on scant info) is that the years of drug abuse took a toll on his body, and after an afternoon of playing pickleball he had a cardiac episode and passed out in the jacuzzi. If he hadn't been in the jacuzzi he might have been revived and recovered, but it doesn't take long to drown even in three feet of water. If he had hit his head I would think that would be obvious to the first responders.

I always make sure now that I eat something before I have a shower as the doctor said the combination of not eating much all day and the heat together made me almost pass out. Also when I get dehydrated I can get dizzy from time to time as my blood pressure drops so yes heat and dehydration are major factors in blood pressure dropping which is dangerous.

When you don't eat for a long time your insulin level drops and that somehow makes potassium go from cells into the blood, this disturbing your electrolytes balance. That may affect your blood vessels and blood pressure and make you prone to fainting. So yes it's best to avoid long periods of fasting in hot weather and drink plenty of water. Also caffeine tablets could help raise the blood pressure, and exercises like push ups or sit ups.

At one time, I tried to look up the percentage of deaths which couldn't be determined. I wasn't able to find that, but I found an interesting article in which the author stated that a large percentage of undetermined deaths occurred in people who had used drugs illegally, had stopped using them and then later basically dropped dead. The lack of quality control and the cutting agents in illegal drugs may have introduced chemicals into these people's bodies which damage something(s) non-obvious which later cause some system(s) failure. They die from drug use, but the deaths occur years after they quit using them. Perry fits this profile. We will have to see if they are able to determine the reason for death. He may well be one of those medicine has been unable to figure out what occured at this point. If the mechanisms could be figured out, maybe this could be prevented.
