As always, thanks for the great explanation! Absolutely wild that this came out on the same say I was talking about ketamine with my Chiropractor during a visit. I had brought it up talking about pain management and he (who is also a vascular ultrasound specialist at the hospital, so he knows a lot more than your run of the mill Chiro) said he actually didn't know much about it being used for anything other than an anesthetic, and I had told him about the migraine/TRD usage. I have friends who get ketamine treatments for depression and migraines, and it's crazy people still use it on the street and go down a dangerous k hole, too, because even controlled in a physician setting makes my friends feel really crappy. I was open to it from desperation, but my Psychiatrist- despite me having MDD and failing many treatments-doesn't want me to try it. A colleague of hers had success, but after an issue with availability, he crashed very, VERY badly and that worried her. This is such a sad situation all around :(

I have rarely seen ketamine in “overdose” situations, used as a street drug. It can be a safe drug when used appropriately. But where I practice I do not see it as part of abuse drug profile deaths often at all. I think I had 1 in the last 12 months. I think what probably put him over the top was the fact he was in a hot pool, which also causes vasodilation, and with the ketamine on board he just lost consciousness and slipped under the water.

You should see the comments on other social media posts. People have no idea what they’re talking about. I’m glad I have a quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to understanding medical terms, some pathology knowledge and of course the way you explain things, makes it super easy to understand .

Any time a celebrity dies, comment sections are rife with misguided and uneducated opinions. So I make my videos on multiple platforms but more often than not what I have to say is drowned out by sensational claims.

I understand the concept of the lungs being spongelike. Can you explain how a lung can “collapse”?

To be honest the lung is spongelike and balloon like at the same time. It’s a unique substance, really. The air of course is well-contained within the lung itself (it doesn’t leak out, it’s a closed system), and one injury occurs to the airways or outer surface of the lung, that air can then escape the tiny little alveolar spaces and that’s how it collapses. Then air can continue to escape, making it worse with each breath (that’s a tension pneumothorax).
