Bolling's time at Georgia set his career back. By the time he was a senior, his running far too much every year burned him out and made him slower. He shouldn't abandon the 200 entirely. I think rest and cleaning up his running form will lead to his running under 20 seconds consistently.

@sinking1902 Well put. Boling is just giving his haters ammunition by continuing to compete, especially on the professional level, when he has little chance to reach the top pinnacle of performance compared to the elite competitors. Why he wishes to tarnish his record of six international gold medals is beyond me. I would be very happy if he proved my opinion wrong but there is a big difference between his current level and the very best.

The OPEN 400 field is weak right now in the USA cuz nobody wants to do the lactic acid work & it’s not a popular glamour event like the 100/200. There’s a big opening for him in the 400. And as a 400m sprinter, he’d be one of the fastest pure sprinters on the US 400 team. He’s much a much faster pure sprinter than Jeremy Wariner, for comparison.

Marquis Dendy has been the only US Long Jumper consistently over 8.30m over the last 3 seasons, there's literally been no one else over that distance in the last 2 seasons! As an 8.02m jumper, Boling if he committed to it FT over the winter could be a solid 8.20 - 8.30m jumper by the time we get to the Olympic Trials. He could have a really good Pro career if he fully commits to the LJ as I'd argue it's relatively 'weaker' than the 400m in the US atm. As a solidly consistent 8.20 - 8.40m jumper, he'd be good enough to consistently make Global Finals & occasionally win medals.

If he can get consistent at running in the 44's for 400m he's got a good shot at international championship meets (WC and Olympics) and solid credential for Diamond League participation. The 200m is just too loaded with sub-20 talent in the USA, but still a good race for him as its great practice for running the curve (get that little 'edge' and save a tenth or more in the opening curve of the 400m).

There is a lot of world class competition at 400 meters. If he runs both the 400 and 200 this year there is an outside shot that he could make the team after we find out whose hurt, disqualified, or not still competitive. But if everybody is healthy he needs a 44.00.

Boling is definitely faster in the 100m but Wariner is definitely faster in the 400m, but notice how close their times are in the 200m. And to further confirm it, their indoor 400m PBs are virtually the same.

I’ve seen him LJ and he’s very raw, so a little actual high level coaching and he’d be jumping 8.20 very quickly. He could also still do the 200 and occasionally the 400. Boling had a great HS and college athletic career. I don’t think he has the talent as a professional to win consistently, but who knows. I have concerns with his 400m. He was only about .3 off being an Olympic medalist in the 200m, but he's like 1.25-1.5 off in the 400m. That's a LONG way to improve to get to the top. But he's perfect for a relay guy and pretty close to top 4 in the 400m US sprinters so it's a shortcut to running in international competitions. But I still think he's a 200m runner, even if he's only a top 5 or 6 US runner (still can make a good living in Europe running 19.9 - 20.1).

@@zber9043extremely good explanation. May I add, unless there is a complete, and i mean COMPLETE form rebuild, there is no way he could do the 800 competitively. As you stated, the 800 is more aerobic. His form is the exact opposite of aerobic; shoulders high, arms wide, over strides a bit which means his push off must produce more energy, foot to hip strike is out of wack. He would be done by the 500 meter mark; fading fast. I personally think he should just concentrate on the 400. The 200 is stacked, and should only be used for speed work and pace.
