    I am so amazed! There are hardly any cat groomers anywhere. You clearly know what you are doing. Cats are a different animal. I finally made an appointment with a vet to remove the mats from one of my kitties because no one else would respond. I will at last get all those horrible mats off of her stomach. You are so wonderful. I wish I could live near you.

    Hello, I’m so glad to be able to watch your expertise. We have 6 kitties that are very precious to us. We have 2 Persains who need grooming 2-3 times a year to avoid Matt’s. I was wondering where I can go to learn more. Do you by chance teach non professional (pet owner/groomer)? I don’t have much of a technique but it’s slowly forming and developing. To have a professional teacher would be a wonderful gift for our kitties. Please if you could let me know where to go to learn more? Thank you!

    So do you recommend doing a complete shave down rather than cutting off the individual mats? We just took over ownership of a Maine coon from an older man who just couldn’t care for him properly. He has a thing for taking in strays. We’ve had Maine coons before. The gentleman told us he a “a” mat - I discovered that his entire body is full of mats! I’ve never had a cat this matted before, and once we finally have this done, he will never get like this again! I am not a pro, but I am trying to care for him myself. He’s only ~2 years old, and although his temperament makes it seem that he might have been someone’s pet before, I have no idea if he’s ever been groomed before. Reading online, I read that it could take up to six months for a Maine coon’s coat to fully grow back in. My husband was not thrilled about that. So I’ve been using small barber shears, and I am slowly and gently trying to tackle the mats one at a time. I’m being so careful of his skin, and as soon as it’s clear he’s reached his limit for the day...I stop. Neither of us are in a rush (of course I want to get it done, but without freaking him out). He’s actually been pretty good about it. Is this acceptable, or would it honestly be better to completely shave him down?

  • @melissahall2530

    @melissahall2530

    2 жыл бұрын

    Be very careful using shears on cats. I worked at a vet clinic for a couple of years and in my pet salon,I have seen horrific injuries from scissor use on mats. Very painful and expensive vet bills. Cat skin cuts and tears very different than an dogs. That’s why a lot of groomers do not groom cats because of the difficulty of shaving them compounded when it’s matted. You never know if the skin is in the matting. Most Groomers will shave the body. Leave the feet/legs/head and ask to leave tail full. The tail takes the longest to grow back. No pom pom. I recommend talking to your veterinarian or a professional groomer that you trust that deals with cats. Clipping a matted cat is difficult for professionals including me. This cat has sores/scars on his skin from the matting. It can also affect a Cats temperament. So many have told me their cats are happier after I groom them because they’re no longer uncomfortable. Two years old is a time when long hair cats especially a Maine coon would go through a coat change. If you’re doing no maintenance it would definitely mat up. Purebred cats typically aren’t feral cats. I bet he was somebody’s pet.

    My old cat has really hardened mats all underneath her belly, and other areas and some has actually fallen completely off of her chin & neck area exposing her bare skin so if I try to shave her like you’re doing I was concerned about mosquitoes in my area and then getting bit without her hair being on her? She’s a feisty cat & may not let me shave her. One video suggested using coconut oil to loosen the mats. Any suggestions I would appreciate! Thank You 💖

    Do you know anyone you would recommend in the North Florida area or South Georgia)? I have an 18 year old Maine Coon cross that was my wife's baby. Since she passed last year we've both struggled (depressed, he wanders the house and yowls, and he clutches one of her shoes when he sleeps) and he has gotten really badly matted on both sides and his belly. I've tried to keep him combed, but he gets matted faster than I can comb and he quickly gets sore. I'm afraid to have him sedated at his age.

    I'm just so upset because I had a groomer come into my home today. And we didn't have a schedule appointment so she didn't bring her own shampoos she just had her grooming tools. Nothing else to help she did Hannah really quickly and my little fat girl that gets you know crusty bum cuz she can't clean her self but she's fat. And then the one I was worried about is my dramatic baby that's been through so much she's going to be 12 he had gotten out and he had some sort of like tar or she said tree sap stuck in his pants so I waited for my friend cuz I figured my friend can hold the cat and she can groom him but after they got through with the nails she just they put them on the counter and she explained this is why I'm going to scruff his neck and so she held him up in the air by the neck brushing his belly had him scruffed by the neck for the rest of the groom even though my friend was here and she would have happily held my cat during the whole thing if she needed him to so I feel so bad that he had to be scruffed by the neck held up even and not and that I didn't put a stop to it and I didn't ask my friend to put a stop to it even when she turned to me and said she's really holding him by the whole neck she's got him by the neck when she came and told me that I guess we both should have walked back in the kitchen and I could have asked her about it You know. Maybe I didn't want her to walk out with him half groomed but at that point it might have been better I guess my cat seems fine now but I don't think it's fair that he had to go through that

    That sounds terrible. Nobody should ever dangle a cat by its scruff. I’m sorry that you had that experience. I recommend taking a look at the national Cat Groomer’s institute Cat Groomer locator and hiring a certified feline master groomer-cfmg There is no training or education required to be a Cat Groomer. Some groomers are better than others. They shouldn’t traumatize cats. There’s no real Grooming going on if they do not offer a bath in my opinion. Look for a more qualified groomer.

    Every experience has been bad for Sweets. Mainly was trying to get the stuff out of his pads and he did have one on the back foot when I tried to walk away with my friend and her cutting some of that tree shop she said it was out of one pad and then trimming his nails I said there's probably some on his back foot! Well when she left and he was dripping wet he kept shaking his back feet and then this morning I got to look at one of them and the tar is still on his back paw! That's what's so horrible he had to go through that whole experience and because she didn't try and blow him out or brush him out he has matted up from the bath on one side of his body there was one claw that she missed when trimming his claws and now it still got tar on him I think I saw the tar tree sap whatever on his belly and stuck on his backpack and what sad is after that bath I'm sure it was hanging kind of loose and because it's like tree sap it just sort of stuck back up on his pad I don't know I'm in so much pain from trying to brush him and take care of him when she left him in that condition. I didn't complain to her I was thinking she would still come back and finish it up next week as I offer her this collection of albums she wanted to take. Since I'm moving and trying to get rid of stuff

    Why cutting the cat's hair does not need to be like this if he or she lives away from home. Why do you put on headphones so you don't hear the cat? Why you lock the cat in a bucket he or she lacks air!!! Would you like to have your hair stripped, locked in a bucket with little air and feel ignored? How do you feel? This is cat abuse.

    He lives in a home and his coat is very matted. I can’t brush or wash those knots out. It would be very inhumane. I wear headphones for ear protection from the dryer. And the cat wears ear protection as well. It is not a bucket but a very modern professional cat groomer piece of equipment called a “Catty Shack”. Total groom time was 30 minutes. Cat abuse is leaving him matted to the skin. No abuse here For more information on cat grooming humanely ♥️ nationalcatgroomers.com/what-is-humane/

    There is a big hole in the drying container. Do you think air can get inside through that big hole? Wearing ear protection is recommended for all groomers during drying. Assuming the worst about people is unhealthy.

    This was absolutely horrific to watch! Absolutely appalling the way you handled this poor precious baby! Ragdolling him and aggressively moving and picking him up! Physically pulling him by his skin and fur!!! Yanking and twisting his tail pulling his front leg outwards!!! Could have fractured it! And after all that didn't even attempt to make the bath part easier for him! Just continued the cruelty! And the dryer was completely unnecessary it served no purpose other than to subject an already traumatized terrified elderly cat to even more stress and suffering! This was so cruel and extremely upsetting to witness! If I seen you doing this to my babies I would punch you in the face! Those poor poor cats how can _anyone_ think this is okay?!!

    Cat was actually pretty relaxed and groom took less than 45 min. E collar is on his head similar to when a cat has clothes on they just don’t move and protect him from biting me which I was told he could bite. He was actually very sweet in video considering the matted/pelted coat. I have to pull the skin to manipulate the hide or we cut them. You can Google me. I have been teaching professionals around the world as well as worked at several veterinarian clinics. If you have a better video of how it’s done, I’d love to be tagged in it 👍 I groomed over 1500 cats last year. and he was not traumatized. I’m not sure if we’re watching the same video. He has teeth and claws. He could very well come after me. I’ve done some traumatizing grooms. This was far from it.👍

    Threatening to punch somebody in the face is not a good look or very nice. 🫶

    I’m just seeing a professional grooming in a very skilled way to remove a pelted coat and ensure the cat is clean and comfortable. I’m not sure what you are seeing? Threatening to punch someone who is helping a cat is disturbing.

    Three of a kind…. What is YOUR back ground in? You didn’t say? You speak so expertly? Do you have more training more skills more accolades than this Groomer?? I truly think not😏 I know who her competition is, and who they are not… And last time I checked, nobody knows your name😂 Stay in your lane. And punch her in the face??? Trash…pure trash ❄️SNOWFLAKE❄️
