What I love about Blackbriar the most is Zora's unique voice and that there's always some kind of story behind the lyrics. Usually based on folklore, books, series... And they always try to accompany the singles with music videos supporting the story. I love their gothic vibe and dark, slightly creepy undertones in lyrics/visuals and it just completes everything nicely. It's a full package.

@@MattsMoshPit1I would encourage you to go further with the song that helped them a lot growing by reaching 19M views : Untill Eternity. But be warned: every Blackbriar's song is just a masterpiece. 😊 Thanks for the great reaction/analysis about Cicada.

I read in a review that the singer wants to express in the song how her love and muse lead her to create songs that allow escape into distant worlds and melodies. With its chirping, the cicada is a symbol of a creature that sings in summer. The desire to be transformed into a cicada so that the song can be completed serves as a metaphor for the longing to fully penetrate the music and become one with it. It's always amazing what musical talent our friends from the Netherlands produce. What I like about the band is that they give you the feeling that they haven't reached the end of their development yet. Greetings from Germany

Wow, thank you so much for the insight into the song. I am still amazed by the talent all over Europe that doesn't get noticed over here in the states. I am hoping this channel can introduce my fellow Americans to all the great music out there. Thank you for sharing.

@@MattsMoshPit1 By the way, I've been following your channel loosely since Blood of the Elves, but I have the impression that it's mainly Europeans who watch your channel. I only started writing comments this week because I'm not sure if people understand what I mean in English. Because it pained me that the Heaven Shall Burn video went unnoticed for a long time, I left you a song suggestion. When I find some time I will write a few lines about them, because they are quite unusual for the music industry.

Thank you for sticking with my channel. I am glad you mentioned Heaven Shall Burn. I just saw something with a clip of their music in it and it reminded me that I enjoyed the reaction that I did of theirs. I need to go back and look more into their music. Thank you for bringing them up. Also please write in anytime you want. Thank you my friend

They are from the Netherlands. Must be something in the water there with all the great female rock/metal singers from there. lol. Alternative, gothic , and symphonic metal. 3 EP's and 2 full albums to date. This song is from the 2023 2nd album, A Dark Euphony. Her name is Zora Cock( I think pronounced like coke). She has a beautiful and very unique voice. Took me a bit to get used to it at first, but love it now. You can see this song live, video from Summer Breeze 2023 is on yt. A couple older songs to check out: "Until Eternity", and "Snow White and Rose Red" (feat. Ulli Perhonen). and more from the current 2nd album: "My Soul's Demise", "Crimson Faces" ,and "Forever and a Day". "Until Eternity" was my introduction to them.

This is some background that zora gave on the song on a community post, "I can hear the bluebells ring..." In folklore, it's said that to hear the ring of a bluebell is to hear one's death knell. It means that the fairies are gathering and heralding your death. In this song, I ask my muse to turn me into a cicada after I'm gone, so I can still sing to the one that I love. It's said that cicadas were once humans before there were any Muses. When the Muses came into the world, they enchanted some people into singing, they loved singing so much that they forgot to eat and sleep and died. The Muses rewarded them by turning them into cicadas who sing continuously without needing sustenance. I hope this helps, anyway zora definitely has an amazing voice and yes they do sound very good live. Thanks for checking them out and I hope you see some more songs from them in the future. Any of them are good picks but if I had to recommend some I would say either lilith be gone, deadly Diminuendo, mortal remains or far distant land.

Singing cicadas were already considered a symbol of singers in ancient times. Even back then they were cursed as noise. What is music for one is noise for another. The larval stage depends on the species. For some species it is only months, for one species it is 17 years. They typically occur in waves. A large proportion become sexually mature at the same time and search for a partner with a lot of noise. If the cycle takes 7 years, then they occur more frequently every 7 years. Since their loud sound makes them easy for predators to find, the losses have to be made up for through mass. Blackbriar was created in 2012 at a Slash concert attended by the Dutch singer Zora Cock and the drummer René Boxem. But it's not Slash who inspired them, but the support band Halestorm. Their very first single sounds a lot like that too, with a screaming Zora. The two of them are also big gothic fans and it quickly turns into dark symphonic metal. The videos are made by the band and all tell little stories like this. Zora is the creative center, the melodies come from her. My favorite video: Blackbriar - Mortal Remains (Official Music Video) An alternative band: ELEINE - Enemies (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

Had never heard of this band but love both vocalist and song. ❤ My biggest problem was moving into the symbolism with a female voice. Checking for Cicada activity is part of my walk about on a new property for my job.. If I discover signs, it will impact any design I create or digging I do. I love Cicadas. Only male Cicadas sing. They have 5 distinctive songs and the "joy song" occurs when a female has flicked her wings to indicate acceptance of that male for mating. In my area Dog Day Cicadas are the most common (3 year life cycle) Cicadas are generally the symbol for rebirth, spiritual ecstasy, or ressurrection. With the references to hearing the Bluebells toll, I suspect that this about getting into "becoming one with Nature's song" metaphor. Would gladly hear more by this band😅 even if they don't know much about Cicadas.🙄😂 🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🌹🇨🇦🌹

Blackbriar was one of these bands that I didn't know how to feel about, then I went and saw them live when they toured with Ad Infinitum and I was impressed. The music really reminds me of early Within Temptation, especially the vocals are very similar to Sharon's. But the melancholic and sometimes creepy mood is all Blackbriar. Very good lyrics, too. Check out My Soul's Demise or Forever And A Day.
