Glad you loved it! Besides English, the band uses the extinct Gaulish language in their lyrics and this is one of the things I love about them. It just creates such a unique atmosphere and gives this extra punch to their music. Aidus means fire. Their lyrics are basically based around pagan imagery and Celtic history. With this song, they call to arms against the injustices of the world. You can hear them invoke Ànu - an ancient Celtic god of war in the first verse, and then again they call for Ànu to ascend the throne in order to bring justice to the world. Fabienne's vocals are not so prominent in this song but it's my favourite from them. That chant at the beginning... I've got chills everytime I hear the song and I must have heard it about a thousand times already :D It's just so powerful. Fabi joined the band in 2017 and does clean vocals and plays the harp in the band. The male vocals are Chrigel Glanzmann who's the leader of the band and a multi-instrumentalist. There are 8 members in Elu and they just create magic together. For more fun melodic stuff you might try Ambiramus, for more epic stuff I would go with Rebirth next.

In 2002 there was a whole wave of folk metal bands, especially in Europe. The folk tradition is missing in the USA. Something could have been done with the help of the Native Americans, but then you would have had to recognize their culture. In the past, illegal immigrants from Europe (like the Pilgrims) did everything they could to wipe out the culture of the first Americans. That's why folk metal is missing in the USA. The Swiss Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann has the idea of combining death growls with folk. With the help of Season musicians he records a single. Because of the success, concerts with covers followed. After that, the band falls apart because the Season musicians have other plans and Chrigel has to rebuild the band. In 2006 the first album was released with Anna Murphy as a female singer: ELUVEITIE The Call Of The Mountains Live In the mid-2010s there was a crisis and individual members left the band. The high point was in 2016, when in the middle of recording the next album there was a heated argument between Anna and Chrigel. She spontaneously leaves the band with two other members and forms her own: CELLAR DARLING - Avalanche (OFFICIAL VIDEO) Chrigel essentially has to start his band again and finishes the record with studio musicians. He begins the tour for the album with Season musicians. It wasn't until 2017 that Fabienne Erni was hired as a touring singer. After the tour, large parts of the Seasons become regular members, including Fabi: ELUVEITIE - Rebirth (OFFICIAL VIDEO) In 2019, Fabi will do her master's degree in singing and form a band. There are now two albums. If Eluveitie allows it, there are also concerts: ILLUMISHADE - ENEMY (Official Music Video) | Napalm Records In 2022, Hurdy Gurdy player Michalina Malisz is leaving the band to form her own: LYRRE - North Star (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) The overlay is Proto Celtic and I couldn't find a quick translation. The same applies to parts of the song. The band name means Swiss.

@@MattsMoshPit1 Hey you dear people. Thanks Matt for the reaction and Veronika for your input on our song! Most of what you mention about us, the song or Celtic mythology is correct (which I do appreciate a lot! :)). Aidus is gaulish (early celtic) for "fire", yes! The text shown at the very beginning is also in gaulish language, Matt, and it approximately translates to: "The fire that was born in the navel of the world became word. And the word was heard." Thanks for your words on the lyrics, Veronika! Always happy when I see people actually dealing with them and/or their spiritual/mythological background. The name Ànu appears throughout history and Celtic territories (and abroad) in diverse forms (Ànu, Ana, Danu, Annea, ect). Ànu is the mother goddess... and thus represents mother earth (being mother goddess she's mother to the gods; keeping that in mind the lyrics of our latest single "Exile of the gods" make much more sense than without knowing that ;)). Ànu is not a god of war in particular though (doesn't mean she cannot fight; you don't wanna fight Ànu ;)). Very simply put, invoking, following and worshipping Ànu basically is about treating mother nature the way she should be treated by us - with respect, love and humility. And so it also becomes clear what fighting with and for Ànu means. It is impossible to follow and honour the gods without following and honouring Ànu. Obviously it all goes much further and deeper at the end of the day... only starting with the fact that we humans are as much nature as any other part of nature (so this is also about treating ourselves - every single one of us - with respect, love and humility! And ta-dah, suddenly we do have a very social , socio-critical, kind of religios/ethical, political, ect. song ;)). Bringing yourself, your life, your soul, mind and body in line with Ànu - surrendering to Ànu - probably is a task of a lifetime. It's deliverance, it's salvation, it's liberation. It does bring justice indeed. It's dying at the same time though... the dying of our egos. It's a process. You can find traces about that process in probably all human cultures. It's like the character Arjuna and the grueling battler he's sent into, as it is described in the Bhagavad Gita, for instance. Or at the end of the day it's even like in the new testament and the death on the cross (even though that one is ecclesiastically interpreted quite differently these days, or well, throughout the last 1700 years ;)). In our belief (or rather, in Celtic mythology, in the spiritual imagery of the Celtic culture) it's also rather a battle field (on with we'll find death) and most of all a large cauldron (as shown on the Gundestrupp cauldron, found by archaelogical excavations, in case you wanna have a look at it; if you wanna read more about that, check our song "Rebirth" and well... basically our entire album "Ategnatos" ;)). So that's that on Ànu; the main topic behind the song "Aidus" is the (foreseen and foretold) rise of a new "generation" (not in a literal sense, rather in the sense of "new kind of humans/societies") to walk with mother earth instead of against her, which comes along with the new Aeon to come. But damn it, the nerd within myself is getting carried away once again. ;) Didn't plan to write a fucking novel here, sorry, just wanted to add this though. Thanks a lot again for reaction and comment! Cool stuff. :) Cheers Chrigel PS @Veronika: Speaking of battle... the song itself is kind of a battle cry, a call to arms though. And the gaulish chants lyrics during the song are off the evocation in our song „Catvrix“. And yes, Catvrix actually is our battle god though.

Because you really liked the Celtic folk-style, I would like to recommend a song by "Faun", a German Neo-Pagan Folk band. Their lyrics are mostly in German but they use other languages too. The song "Gwydion" is about a Welsh magician who enchanted Trees to fight in a mythological battle and because it is a Celtic theme "Eluveitie" was the natural partner for a collaboration. Not all members of "Eluveitie" are involved in this though. Only Chrigel (harsh vocals), their drummer and the two guitarists. In this song "Faun" performs the first part in their usual style (and in German) before "Eluveitie" comes in for the second (metal) part with Chrigel singing in Welsh: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoKg2ZKoodO1Zco.html
