Jack Young is a published counterfeit coin expert and was kind enough to sit down with Matt to talk a little bit about his collection.

This makes me wonder just how many counterfeits of non-U.S. coins are in TPG holders?

Showing the coins in the ‘more modern’ case would have been incredibly interesting

Does he have a website or are there high res photos of the fakes anywhere?

Jack has a series of stories about his coins published in Coin World. I suspect you can find them on their website.

Some time ago was watching a live auction pulled out a better date morgan to sell and was talking up how rare it was, I opened up ebay to compare the prices he says the coin should go versus the market, and right away saw a flood of chinese counterfeits priced less than he was wanting for his better date. It's why I'm very shy to get into numismatics and want to just stick to bullion. Counterfeits do not affect the precious metals markets like how they drive down the price of numismatics and other collectables.

I picked a $50 Eagle off Temu for $1.68 just to see what's out there. Was shocked at how hlgood it was...

Scary. Certainly not good for the hobby. I think this will increase the need for provenance and innovations like PCGSs trueview.
