I was dating a guy slightly younger than me. I was in graduate school at Harvard at the time. He took me to a student film showing on campus. The film was the Graduate. Somehow, me the single and childless graduate student was being compared with a married woman with a daughter having an affair with a guy her daughters age. It was a really shitty and totally unfair and absolutely cruel, horrible way of breaking it off. Clearly I was better of without a classless idiot who never even bothered to get to know me.

I mean, the comments Matt Damon have made publicly on a number of topics makes me think that she really dodged a bullet with their breakup.

As for her I think she handled it with class and style and she obviously was the mature person in the relationship at that time

I'm glad that minnie took the high road after the split I'm really happy she has moved on with her life and is happy in her current relationship 🙂🥰🙏

He totally used her to promote the movie. Actors can be so full of themselves. Except for Minnie. She's frikn awesome!

She's so very beautiful, they don't "go" together. I've never understood the thought that he's attractive, but to each his own. She's one that still has this glow, a radiance and is just as beautiful now as she was 30 years ago.

Matt is a big-headed blonde, not as cute as other actors, more proportionate and handsome. a promiscuous man, of bad choices with women. I'm glad Minnie escaped his promiscuous clutches. she deserved better.

No, people remember Damon and Driver. It's Damon and Ryder that's largely been forgotten. They didn't date that long really, and tried to keep a lower profile. Ryder had already experienced the intense media and public attention paid to her high profile relationship with Johnny Depp. It was Ryder's former pal Gwyneth Paltrow - then dating Ben Affleck - who introduced and matchmade Damon to Ryder.

Driver previously played a very plain, awkward girl in "Circle of Friends" where she won over the love of the good looking and popular character played by young Chris O'Donnell (who unfortunately didn't become as big and enduring a star as I thought he'd be). So Driver was already kind of stuck with that image. In reality, she has a rather ordinary face, like someone you remember from school, someone you'd see walking down a street. But she got the glam treatment that everyone working in big Hollywood movies gets and does look attractive. Just not as attractive as some other Hollywood actresses and stars. But in Britain and Australia, they don't select as much for looks as they do for training and talent. Lots of actresses on the more ordinary side working in Britain and Australia. The same goes for actors too. And they get better roles than the "pretty love interest" type roles that Hollywood often serves up. In any case, Driver should consider herself fortunate that Weinstein didn't find her attractive and didn't make moves on her.

Fact check: Matt didn't arrive to the Oscars with Winona as his date. Both he and Ben brought their mothers. He was likely with Winona at the parties afterwards.

Just because he was Young, gave him no excuse to be so insensitive and to break up publicly like that how humiliating how would you like it if it was done to him. He was very immature immature person would’ve taken her side and expressing his feelings but he lost that loving feeling did he had during the film.

I've always found this story hard to believe. Not that I'm a huge Matt Damon fan, but it just seems like maybe there was some kind of honest misunderstanding? Were they even hanging out at the time (I know celebrity couples often end up long periods of time apart)? I just find it odd that she references what Matt said on Letterman "1 month earlier" and not, like, "Everything seemed fine this morning."

I also was thinking a month is a LONG time, even for people who travel a lot apart from each other so it really doesn't matter that he was still into her then. I also feel like Matt probably thought that was what he was saying in some conversation they had but that it wasn't clear (probably because when guys break up with someone, sometimes they are trying to find a way to soften the blow) and if she was still in it, she may not have tuned in well enough to what he was trying to say. Just a guess, but I'm sure it's not that uncommon for a guy to think that he's broken up with a woman and for it to have not been clear. He still had a responsibility to make it clear though. Still a screw up in that way, but may not have been as intentional as people make it sound. He might have thought that he broke up with her first before the Oprah episode aired.

I'm glad that the Queen Gretchen Mol never dated him, ever since I saw rounders I always thought they might have dated because the chemistry with these two on screen was so good no way that they might have not tried in real life. But I'm glad they were only co actors. Gretchen Mol is one fine beauty and it will always be mystery for me not to know why on earth she didn't got many Lead roles and big budget movies.

My opinion of Matt Damon has shrunk to zero after hearing this. It was a long time ago, but for him to break up with her in front of the whole world like he did put him in the trash basket for me. I will never watch one of his films again, which is a shame as I love Good Will Hunting but it wouldn’t be the same knowing he is so lacking in character. Now it’s Bad Will Hunting 😮😮😮

Trust me romantic breakup nothing compared to being rejected by a relative or close family.

First of all, it was like 25 years ago and we dont know anything about what really happened between them. Secondly, Matt is the guilty one for the way he treated Minnie…if he didn’t leave her for Winona, it would’ve been someone else, he was obviously not in love (anymore).

Talk about one lucky break for those kids. I have no idea what their father did for a living or how much wealth he had, but I don't think it was anywhere near the level of Damon. I wonder how he felt about his ex marrying someone so famous and wealthy, a golden boy of the 90s. Maybe a bit jealous? But he was probably pleased knowing that his children would grow up with all the advantages of wealth and social status, that he wasn't paying for, including the best private schools and expensive university tuition.

The highest point of this lady's life was dating Matt Damon, and the highest point of her career was Goodwill Hunting. Media didn't paint her as a victim, she herself did and then let media run with it. In all honesty, Damon dodged a bullet.

Can you imagine... random people who you don't know and have NOTHING to do with your life, spend time talking about one of your old relationships from over a decade or two ago? Seriously... do something more substantive with your life.
