"You're the tall kingdom I surround.. think I better follow you around. "- brainy- The national. Yep..i knew pretty early on he was a poet and he'd be up there with leonard cohen in my book. Their show in Cincinnati Ohio, was tear inducing. Drove from cape may NJ. Completely worth it..that's a day I'd like to do over again...lol. Just to be there when the 1st chord base drums of runaway starts !!!! 💞💯🎶🎀

@@Hotllamarama I forget the year I saw them now? Sounds like show you saw might've been outside?? 1st show I saw was an inside show in Cincinnati. Beautiful place. Then the following summer we saw them closer to home in Philadelphia. Back to back summers. For me that Cincinnati show was the best tho. But it was also my 1st time seeing them. I'd been playing them for years at this point and both my hubby and I were insane fans. Lol. But even still ...I didn't expect I'd be in tears hearing them live - (I'm not that person🤦🏻)...like it was the 60s with the Beatles in front of me. 😂 But yeah I WAS THAT PERSON😜 But its ok bc imo they're WAY WAY better then the Beatles and deserving of tears! .. lol.

This is like turning a stunning huge hard rock into a small pinky oval piece of glass.

Who ever said it's better? needs to re-think their whole life because its not anywhere near as good as the original. Its not a hard song to perform, the magic is from when they wrote it originally and played it live. I love John cales rendition from 1983/84 it's amazing and wild and really blows you away, John cale is still making music and performing to this day. Proper Welshman,

Hello all - I love this version of the song. It is a classic of course and Bowie covered it well too. I believe there is great respect amongst the artists for the original. Can someone tell me who the members of the band in the video are and who the woman is that does the backing vocals? This is a solid video and really great recording. I’m just interested in learning about the artist in the video as they each and everyone of them is really talented - drums, guitar, piano and backing vocals. I can’t seem to find the info on line - any and all help is most welcome. Thank you! Cheers!

If Bono had done such a cheesy straight rock version of this he would have been crucified. Sounds suspiciously like Steets Have No Name and not a big fan of the dad dancing. Still love The National.

That’s Matt Berninger. He’s best known for his work as the lead vocals of the National, a critically acclaimed indie rock band. For the past year or two he’s been doing a lot of solo work, and at some point that apparently involved contributing to a velvet underground tribute album. To an outsider looking in, I can see why this video kinda looks like some random 50 year old dad with a record deal whose desperately trying to be a rock star, but his other work is actually really good, and his voice is fucking brilliant when he uses it correctly. I thought this was pretty fun, but I will admit that this performance probably isn’t a good first impression of Matt.

This is a bit too earnest. Like someone who read a bit of Rimbaud deciding to run guns on a lark. Matt seems a good dude, flawed like all us mortals are, but you can't get in Lou's head to do a tune and you need to. Lou was all sorts of...fucked up? Not a clinical term: Nasty. Brilliant. Caustic. Unique. Matt is not that. This is glorified karaoke...
