Always love Matt's inclusion of children in his programs, whether on the walking tours, the amphitheater or in the lecture hall of the visitors center. Gets the children involved and leaving a memory and impression they won't soon forget. History is alive and well in the Atkinson home, thank the Lord.

Beautiful presentation by Emma and Aubrey - the perfect way to get your girls excited and interested about history ! As for Lt Dan, as Shakespeare would’ve said - I think the Gentleman doth protest too much…. His egregious notion that he ‘saved’ the army is just ridiculous and absurd. He lost the majority of his men when he disobeyed direct orders from his Army Commander and paid dearly for it. He knew that he was wrong - innocent people don’t ram their stories down people’s throats for the rest of their lives, forward letters from former enemy generals condoning what they did and try to make up for their errors by putting an extraordinary number of monuments up to commemorate themselves alongside the dead soldiers they were responsible for. I have no doubt that Lt Dan’s actions held Longstreet up, but the outcome was predictably bad for the men underneath him, and his blatant refusal to acknowledge that is incredibly sad, and says more about his character than anything else….. I agree with Matt that he was more concerned with his legacy than he was about anything else in his life. It makes sense, he’d made a terrible error of judgment and spent the rest of his life trying to change the narrative, unfortunately with some degree of success. He outlived many of his counterparts, giving him the last voice available to spin his story… However, we can all be grateful to him for the work he did at Gettysburg, for the monuments and for the preservation.

I'm inclined to agree. I think his experience at Chancellorsville affected his judgment at Gettysburg. And where he had been placed along Cemetery "Ridge" would have given me pause for thought, too. But he messed up on 2 July. And sticking the boot into Meade was disgraceful.
Aubrey and Emma you did great!! And you both looked beautiful!! And Ranger Matt fantastic as always. Arizona M

I've met Matt two or three times at Gettysburg and had the pleasure of talking with him each time - I even got my picture with him once! The closest I've ever come to meeting a celebrity! All of the rangers at Gettysburg keep me coming back, but Matt's sense of humor and knowledge of the Civil War are of the highest quality.

Outstanding presentation! Kids speaking made it more enjoyable and kept interest in the subject. Lawyer shooting Lawyer....a win win. Well, almost. My apologies to Veronica. Thanks, Matt. Well done.

There was a man in my VFW post in St Louis named Tom who served in Patton's third army. Someone asked him what he thought of Patton and the only thing he said was "He got a lot of men killed".

@@addressinggettysburg Hi Matt, most hats of the period from Paris for spring, summer, and fall were made of silk as the main body. Often birds' feathers, especially Ostrich were to add texture. Silk Flowers were often used as bulblets and even craypaper were also used. In Winter, Wool and Animal Pelts like Mink and Beaver are commonly used. My primary source is Fashion Since 1900 by Valerie Mendes and Amy de la Haye.

Matt I’ve recently purchased the adjoining parcel to the Thompson home. I’ll be opening the WHERES STUART outreach center aimed at young families with children. It’ll be dedicated to bringing back the fun of the Gettysburg Battle. We’ll have a interactive arcade and rides for fun and education. Here’s what i’m thinking. Pickets Plunge water ride. The main concurse will be Long Street…get it!?! Genius i know. For a mascot & pictures we’ll have Loopey Lee. He’ll be a happy lovable loser type thats walks around asking Where’s Stewart!?! I don’t think Tom Arnold is doing anything these days. Heres the tie in w/your organization WHERES STEWART is perfect for the mueseum and you can provide the publicity!! Ok you better sit down here’s the hook…A haunted Volcano, Much better than a little rocky hill don’t u think? (fireworks I didn’t forget fireworks) we’ll call it Joshua’s Chamber of Secrets. Kinda a Xfiles meets Harry Potter vibe. Very popular with historical researchers these days. No worries, I’ve already have local mediums lined up to give lectures on the Ghosts of Gettysburg. Get this; the stage will be a outifitted with actual stones from the devils den with dead soldiers that suddenly rise up as Zombies! Ok i know by now you’re as excited as i am and want to get this moving. Please feel free to contact me with your financial participation. Bonus Features: (fee based) 1. Watch a live amputation! 2. Choose your own Kardasian inspired bedazzled blue or grey cap.

Gen. Dan should have been relieved of duty after the same action at Chancellorsville..General Meade's reported statement is classic..General, there is, in some respects, higher ground to your front, regarding your assigned position..however, if you continue to advance, you will encounter ever higher ground until you reach the mountain yonder....big paraphrase, but you get it😅
