Maton Mastersound Electric Guitar Restoration
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Something different this video- a restoration of an early 2000's Maton Mastersound Electric Guitar.
This guitar was in bad shape- the headstock was smashed completely off, and the neck was set into the body, making replacement a huge job. Come hang out and see my processes as I take this Maton from "Ow!" to Wow!
I must have done something right, because once this was completed, I was offered a job at Maton Guitars!

That was a very comprehensive fix. Nice work! I particularly liked your process for attaching the fretboard - and I think I need to get myself a silicone brush too! 👍

I have just tried the new StewMac band clamps for fretboard glue ups, and they worked so well. I'll be using them in future instead. They're not as strong as I'd hoped, and I don't know how long they will last, but the experience of using them was 1000 times better than giant rubber bands.
Absolutely Amazing work!

@@TempleGuitarsYou’re Welcome. I absolutely love Maton’s Guitars. While I do love some of their acoustics, I do miss them making electrics. On December 1, 2023, I sent them in email asking them why they stopped making electrics and plan to make more someday And this was they’re reply "At the moment we have put production of electric guitar on pause as a means of streamlining production, we have been the busiest we've ever been in our 75+ year history". "We definitely want to make a return to making electric guitars one day, just for the foreseeable future though we are focusing on producing acoustic guitars".
Hey mate! Great to see you back! This was a brilliant restoration, and it's great you were able to get that neck from Maton. Hope you're feeling well now and looking forward to some new vids.

@@TempleGuitars Thanks for your reply, l feel like shaking your hand mate, it’s rare to find people like you in today’s world, It looked beautiful when finished, I’m picking mine up from Deep Tone music , soon as I saw the Finnish on the top I had to have it, there’s a pic online if you fancy having a quick look, it’s left handed so I was lucky to find it… Cheers Trevor

Wonderful to see you back on KZread Jayszun! I'm gonna be unhelpful in your call for feedback and say - just do exactly what you've been doing! You already have a good balance of the long-form and relaxing ASMR format, but just enough really useful detail and explanation along the way to keep things focused. Really looking forward to what you come up with next.

The people have definitely spoken on that one. I'll get to it after I do a fretwork video I think. Thank you for your input, Christian.
I like the format. Generally speaking, I can't watch this type of video - but you've hit on exactly the right balance of informative explanation and the actual work involved to hold my interest. For my own tastes, I don't think there's a need to change it up.

Sure thing- what questions do you have?
@Kenneyty
2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, they don't make rulers for 12 strings, so how do you get the spacing right?
@TempleGuitars
2 жыл бұрын
I just use a 6 string spacing ruler, mark out the distance from the fretboard edge of the outer two strings, then the inner two strings, then use the ruler to fill in the gaps. So, use a 6 string ruler twice.
that was fun

Once again, great video. I enjoy both long and short videos, though I generally find short videos easier to fit into my busy schedule. I'd love to see your techniques for hemispherical fret ends, and get your opinion on whether they're worth the time/effort. Cheers
@TempleGuitars
2 жыл бұрын
I think hemispherical fret ends are worth the effort if you're charging a fair price for them, but if a customer wants them on a standard build, I will politely pass.
What were the channels in the heel area designed to do? Was the neck like a universal set or bolt on design...which ever application suited a specific guitar model?
@TempleGuitars
2 жыл бұрын
I think that's exactly what it was- Mastersound series guitars are available in set or bolt on neck configurations, depending on the model. Generally I think the more expensive ones are set. As I mentioned in the video though, the space at the heel provides a handy area to insert a truss adjustment tool.

Old comment, but hey, just in case anyone is still interested... I used to work at Maton when these were in production. The slots are for steel inserts each with two threaded holes. Because these necks have such a short heel, regular wood screws like fender etc use, wouldn't have worked. So these necks were literally bolted on! Or, in this case glued of course. But the neck blanks were the same so the slots were in all. This is a nice video, but at Maton, we would have just routed out the neck heel. Much easier and faster than steaming it. It was the same with bridges. They were just routed down to a thin vaneer and only a small amount of heat and they peel right up.
I was literally wondering where all the maton electrics had gone and found this video, luckily I’ve got an ms2000 tucked away as all horders should

It definitely made life easier, but if it wasn't available I would have just made a replacement. When it was finished it was returned to its owner.

it’s nice and relaxing to watch :) i could also enjoy passages where there’s no background music at all, but that’s just me. Anyone knows why Maton stopped making electric guitars? I own 3 of them.. they feel like orphans now 😂
