Renaud Barbaras begins with the idea that the body is a sensitive being in every way. He refers to it as an interiority that feels (M Ponty). This perception invites us to not separate interiority a subject on one end, from the other- object exteriority.
And so it would be the same model for the whole world which would be a visible thing and a sensitive being at the same time. This is what Merleau Ponty calls "The flesh of the world". The world is not a pure, naked abstract, but it is already inhabited by an archaic sensibility.
For Renaud, I would highlight through my work a form of transitory state between the exteriority, the pure matter of my sculptures' clay body and the interiority of their characters in order to ultimately make the viewer feel that sensitivity presides over the subject itself. The material of my sculptures' bodies is already sensitive.
