Mathematical Review: Springfield Prodigy 1911 DS

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This mathematical review has been on Patreon for several weeks now for viewers there. I decided to drop it public so that maybe it will help others. If you want more info like this you can find it at www.patreon.com/1911university. I'll be doing a part two on this gun later next week after making the necessary modifications to improve it's function and accuracy.
Feel free to share it with your friend and neighbors. It's just math, and it don't lie...3.14 is always Pi...
Here it is, the Spaghetti Western of 2011 style pistols. There is good, bad and ugly in this sample. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by a number of things on this pistol. But there were also plenty of things to be disappointed in as well.

Great explanation. I have the same problem with the disconnector, therefore I get a lot of failure to battery.

Ive been looking at this firearm since it came out and been interested in it. Dude! Your video was very informative! You gained a sub. I bounce back and forth between guitars&s and guns. Right now it's 1911s (2011s) an I've been thinking of going back to school for gun smithing. This made me realize that there is A LOT I've got to learn! I wish that there was someone like you around where I live that I could "nerd" out and learn from

I have the 4.25” Prodigy. I’ve run brass and steel-case ammo in 2 range sessions and 1 class. I had 2 stovepipes early on with steel-case and since then, with a proper cleaning and oiling, it’s been malfunction-free.

Joe - Excellent insight into the problem of the slide running into the disconnector after overcoming the main spring. Just spent a day modifying the disconnector head and doing an amateur “Marvel” disco cut. I found my biggest culprit to be the poor finish on the trigger bow and sear spring. Took a couple of hours of trial and error to get the sear spring tuned in but it runs much butter now. It’s no “Night Fighter” but it at least runs now.

I used to do some minor repairs for friends and coworkers. It was extremely common for Springfield 1911 pistols to need lots of tuning to get them to run reliably. Their fitting has always been an issue as long as I can remember. However, their custom shop used to do their repairs, and they usually did a lot to slick up a 1911 that was returned for service.

Great review, based on fact, I like that. I just picked up a blued Garrison 9mm last night, beautiful pistol, the salt blue is what sold me, I didn't expect it to be this good. Everything about the finish is perfect, it rivals the old Colts. Now I didn't measure anything, you can shake this pistol hard, it makes no sound, you can try to wiggle the slide on the frame, zero wiggle, there is some tolerance in the beavertail, the trigger could use some work, but it's not that bad. This will be a great gun to build on, throw away the mim stuff, I don't like the thin grips, I will go with an arched housing, maybe a magwell, but the bones are there. IMHO this is a 1500.00 pistol, YMMV.

And that's why I wanted it. Had a sti tactical 4 that I was terrified of shooting/carryingbecause I didn't want to damage it. I got.this for a knock about gun, something I can shoot and treat like I treat my other guns. Nothing special, and not irreplaceable.

This is my first 1911 I got it and it ran like 💩 called Springfield and found that customer service is on the menu, emailed me a FedEx label and in 9 days she was back emailed me that they rearmed and polished the chamber replaced the extractor and I’ve ran 300 rnds thru it flawlessly!!! With 17 & 20 round mags she’s eating ammo like crazy. I do feel like it was rushed out but saved your money call customer service let them fix there flaws!! I still plan to let my gunsmith give her some more manners but this gun is a shooter now!! From an average Joe

Learned the hard way about the chamber measuring. It ate the rim off three of my all plastic snap caps in a row. They just locked into the chamber too tight and would break before extracting.

I feel like Springfield doesn't get savaged hard enough for their 2 piece guide rods. I hate them with everything I have to hate them with, it needs to stop. I don't care that one can be ordered for like 12 bucks from whatever supplier you choose, the first order of business after buying a new gun should be a holster and/or ammo - not something to rectify poor parts allocation decisions.
