    Another solution : a=18 , b=1 18^1 - 1^ 18 = 18-1 = 17

    B can't be as negative as this question says that a,b belongs to +ve integer

    You made mistake on (x-y)(x+y) = 17. You made assumption that x and y are whole numbers while they do not have to be as you created them as sqrt(a^b).

    17/8=2.1➖ 17/8=2.1 {2.1+2..1}=4.2 2^2.2 1^1.2 1.2 (B ➖ 2+A)
