The barman/bartender really gave them an extra quarter of beer. (1+0.5+0.25=1.75) (2-1.75=0.25)

@l00se_goose76 Pretty sure the joke was the more times people ask, the smaller the amount. 1 > ½ > ¼ > ⅛ > 1/16 The numbers will go towards two, however will never touch 2, so he gives them 2 beers as a result.
