The 'Real' Status Quo will always be best remembered for the solid driving bass of Alan Lancaster. It was great to see the original four back together on the reunion tours of 2013 and 2014. Without Alan (and John) they were never the same.

I think Alan left the band of his own volitition, his decision. Alan was unhappy with many things, the worst being " Marguerita Time " which is a horrible and disgusting Country song that Rossi loved. The rumour is that the Band was losing money due to their Management 'syphoning ' it into their own accounts. Lancaster hated the softer direction that Rossi was taking the band's music. Lancaster was a Rocker.

Hi Nuff. I was 11yrs old when my 'Best friend' John Bunce told me that his Dad was "the Manager of a Pop Group" and invited me to his house to listen to the 7" Demo of the Song they were about to release. John had this White Label 7" Single with Hand Written 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' on the Record. John's Dad had a Leak Valve Amp and perhaps Leak Sandwich Speaker's, so the sound was warm and rich as the 1st notes of Francis Rossi's Guitar played the intro to 'The Status Quo' s' 1st Single. I was a real novice regarding Pop Music having parents who listened only to Ed Stewart on Radio 2. The Singing Nuns and # My Boy Lollipop was what I was accustomed to, but this was very different indeed. Weird sounds sling with the Music and a very catchy song indeed; somehow, as young and naive as I was, you could tell instantly that this was a song well worthy of the charts. I didn't know of Pat Barlow at the time, so unaware that Status Quo had 2 Manager's then, but I think Joe Bunce. John's Dad really Financed everything to do with the Band in those day's.... I digress. Nuff, how wonderful that you can Still pay tribute to the joint founder of your music career and do a Cover, including those weird sounds as in the Original Recording of this mighty fine song. Well done you Nuff. Nuff, you seemed to doubt, or question your playing as Status Quo matured. Nuff, you were always Brilliant with your playing, but 'Incredible' on the first 2 albums. I wish I could have met you and hoping that you're doing OK now? Take care Nuff and best wishes

Early 90's!!!!!!!!! I had a beer and a 'smoke' with Alan and John Brewster at The Illinois Hotel in Five Dock Sydney in 1991. We had a very relaxed and comfortable chat for around 5 minutes. Both are very cool guys. Alan and myself had a good laugh slagging off the "Perfect Remedy " album from Rossi's QUO. ( 1989 ) All those horrible Country songs and dodgy 'pop songs ' Anyway, it was early 90's.

Shame Rossi had all the power singer on the majority of the singles,I'd have booted him out in '76 saying that it's wasn't up to me!
