Growing up poor and born in a remote village with no TV and all I had was a broken radio that I got it for free, I spent much of time after school listening to western songs which was considered evil in my world. I remember hearing songs from matchbox 20 in the mid 90s I was just entering my teenage years, I had hope, I felt like there's more to life than poverty, pain and hunger, there's a big world out there and I must go. Today I get to sit here in my lofty life and listen to these songs again abd it brings tears.

"Bent" is very 2000's rock, it still sounds very fresh and iconic alter all these years 🙂
Lyrics If I fall along the way Pick me up and dust me off And if I get too tired to make it Be my breath so I can walk If I need some other love, then Give me more than I can stand And when my smile gets old and faded Wait around I'll smile again Shouldn't be so complicated Just hold me and then Oh, just hold me again Can you help me I'm bent I'm so scared that I'll never Get put back together Keep breaking me in And this is how we will end With you and me bent If I couldn't sleep, could you sleep? Could you paint me better off? Could you sympathize with my needs? I know you think I need a lot I started out clean but I'm jaded Just phoning it in Oh, just breaking the skin Can you help me I'm bent I'm so scared that I'll never Get put back together Keep breaking me in And this is how we will end With you and me bent Start bending me, it's never enough As I feel all your pieces Start bending me, keep bending me Oh, until I'm completely broken in Shouldn't be so complicated Just touch me and then Oh, just touch me again Can you help me I'm bent I'm so scared that I'll never Get put back together Keep breaking me in And this is how we will end With you and me will let them Without understanding Here I go there again Can you help me I'm bent I'm so scared that I'll never Get put back together Yeah, you're breaking me in And this is how we will end With you and me bent

Forever a fav!!! 🎉
This is "our song". I remember this song playing on the radio when we were sitting in the boat we were test driving at Lake Mead. It was a 1988 Four Winns Horizon 180 with a modified V hull. We were young and dating at the time and when it came on we both stared into one another's eyes and a big grin came over each of us. That boat gave us many memories over the years. I also remember this song playing in my Jeep Wrangler, with half doors, eating ice cream from Sonic. We were still dating. Still young. She was looking cute and hot in her yellow sundress!! I was a dork with a tan and a flat top trying to look cool and impress her with my pilot like sunglasses. lol. That ice cream would somehow end up on her neck & our lips would interlock for the next 25 years! I no longer have that boat or that Jeep but I still have her and three living kids. ☺

This videoclip is basically depression and paranoia wrapped in a neat package; you see the faces of your friends on your enemies, you think the world's problems are uniquely yours, and when someone offers you help in the darkness, you turn them away because you can't remember how to react.

@Shane Willbur exactly its because its known that you lose Dopamine signaling as you get older so you dont get as high with music (or anything else for that matter 😔) you remember the state you were in more than the music itself I think. Of course the music is some factor in it but since all old people do this "about their music" i think its because of a dopamine liss in aged brains
Matchbox 20 has the vibe of an entire generation and Rob Thomas sings about all of the "questions" his generation has about life and all it's insecurities.

Everyone does not have the time to watch old music videos on KZread. Especially the old videos that played all the time on MTV-Music Television.
This song couod be about a break up but it strikes me more about depression and anxiety. The part where he is trying to walk but the wind is only pushing him back is how it can feel. Why is it only me having this hard time to do anything. The part in the ally where he breaks off from everyone (you do that in a sense) you try to withdraw but another problem will come chase you doing that too. I love this song, Rob Thomas has got me through some hard times for sure.
This songs heals a lot of the things Rob thomas is undoubtedly one of the best lead singers in modern rock history

This may seem strange, given the lyrics and meaning of this song, but when I listen to this, I am instantly transported back to the summer of 2000. The nostalgia of that summer -Swimming at the local pool, slumber parties with my friends, going to camp, and watching cartoons on the TV - hit me like a ton of bricks. This song was played all the time on the radio and as far as my 10 year-old self was concerned, it was a carefree summer anthem. It all seems like a dream now.

Just about that EXACT memory stream with a few tweaks and several additions, was myself summer of 1993 with Aerosmith's classic compilation album Big Ones. I was 14, gorgeous, chilling with my sister every day at my grandma's pool next door to us. Minimum of 6 hours by the pool daily in the blazing, ludicrous South Carolina sun (much akin to a mid day Sahara fever dream yet with a working ozone layer, bless it) wearing not nearly enough SPFs naturally, each of us deep in our personal journey/ relentless bloodthirsty quest to win the annual Tanning Contest 🤦 ( I apologize Dr. Bryan, my dermatologist, for my lack of any scruples regarding sun protection, skin care and SPF maximum of 8.....we were on an undescribably competitive, bloody, fight to the death quest for the ultimate and best tan, future skin to which I now humbly apologize be damned!!). Life was absolutely perfect....... I've experienced that level of happiness only 3 times in my life, ranging in various amounts of time from 4 months to 3 years......just bliss every single day. It was as if time were standing still, a wrinkle in time on which we rode a perfect wave every day filled with genuine joy and indescribable happiness that now seems several lifetimes ago. Would I go back to age 13 and live these 44 years all over again, with their impervious joys and absolute bliss..... tempered and now intertwined with indescribable clinical depression, the sufferings of loving too hard, unspeakable tragedies and periods of incessant and unrelenting loneliness? You bet your sweet a** I would. For only the highest highs can be felt knowing and comprehending the lowest of lows. Perhaps eternal life will be the summer of 1993 on endless repeat..... that's my idea of perfect bliss throughout eternity. How beautiful. To God be the Glory of this life and of course, the summer of '93.

I had just turned 18 years old when this song came out. I can still remember sitting in my bedroom with a blank cassette tape waiting for it to be played on the radio so I could record it. I did finally manage to get it and then proceeded to absolutely wear that tape out over the next couple of weeks until the full album went on sale. I swear kids these days don't realize just how difficult life used to be for us elderly folks. I had to walk six miles in the snow uphill both ways in order to buy that blank tape using money I had earned peeling potatoes with shards from a broken beer bottle. Now they just use "The Napster" to get whatever they want whenever they want it. Fucking brats.

I won't part with my story, especially over KZread. However, even if life were to be experienced more first-hand in the earlier years... there's still certain hardship and unforseen events to tackle even today. Some people just hasn't got the good cards delt to them... To live with chronic depression, thought me a few things... I'll bring up one: having to push through, regardless of how difficult the trial - is enough in itself. "A scraped knee, hurts and for the crying child it is no irrelevance" if we compare hardship between one another, we'll get nowhere further than a frugal quarrel. That said, I'm more than aware that this isn't /wasn't the case. Just my two cents ~ Tom of 1993

I used to think 'Back to Good' was their best song until I hear song in my neighbor's house when I was going to the work the other day. I have played this song for about 100 times since then.

This song stays on top of Billboard 100 .. And it was that rocking i couldn't stop listening. Yup, Rob Thomas voice is just unique. The band completed it...

2019? Still love this!
Rock 'n' roll, pls come back to life.
One of the best choruses of all time
Grew up with this song, as well as most other songs from Matchbox Twenty's pre-hiatus songs. Love this song, was one of my favorites from my early childhood. Also Matchbox Twenty is a pretty underrated band I must say, I'd expect this song to have a lot more than 2,800,000 views.

This is my favorite song out of the Matchbox Twenty Collection, I don't know why-this song just speaks to me. I can feel the pain and the anger of betrayal. And it's not an easy song to play Live on stage. The Bassist is an incredible bass player to keep this song going into a Locomotive 🚂 Train coming at you.
Been a fan forever. When my boyfriend got sick and passed away, I called a radio station, they but me on the air The song I dedicated to him was .. If you're gone,I will never forget the amount of people who called me

The fun memories of saving my lunch money in high school to buy cassettes to tape this song. So in love with this song to this day. I was considered an "oreo" to listen this song as I always had it on replay but but nobody could keep me from listening to Matchbox 20.

Were it not for Music Television, A.K.A. MTV*, Black Folk like Us would never have known or heard about Bands like 'Matchbox 20'. And I get the 'Oreo' connotation that You mentioned earlier. Thankfully, I am old enough to have seen a vast assortment of different Music Acts playing on some ground-breaking shows, like 'American Bandstand' on ABC*, 'The Midnight Special' on NBC*, 'Soul Train' seen on different Networks through the U.S., and even a local show in Detroit called 'The Scene' on a Black Owned and Operated Cable TV Station called WGPS*. It also helped to have grown-up in Detroit at that time with all of the great Music Artists that helped to put Detroit on the map as a Music Capital with Motown Records*, and listening to Great Music, no matter who They are, becomes a part of Your DNA. (P.S.: I definitely remember when Music Videos existed before it changed into an Anti-Music Video Network showing Messed-Up 'Reality' Shows, 'Reality' Contest Shows, 'Reality' Relationship Shows (see a theme going on here?), showing hours of Comedy Movies, and sometimes even Serious Movies like 'Titanic'(?), and then the Wacked-Out Video Clip Show 'Ridiculousness').
One of my top 10s of all time. God bless my generation and the kids that have good taste
One of the best music videos ever. By the time you get to that scene at 3:11-3:22, you don't even need words to understand why he doesn't take the help. It's brilliantly done.

I always found the video pretty goofy up until that point, but I agree it basically sums up the entire song. This song along with Mayonnaise by the Smashing Pumpkins are anthems to pretty much all my angst. But I'm just sitting here at 3AM, so I guess I must be lonely. :P

Best outtro /guitar ending solo of any song ever............. Could listen to it on a never ending loop
This song says so much about who a person really is on the inside if you can understand.
best band in decades
I moved to Manhattan just a few months ago back then (May 1999), and all I wanted to do was to copy this style of clothing, fitted dark jeans, t-shirts with different color collar and sleeves and very light leather jackets, all inspired by this video and "Everythig You Want" by Vertical Horizon, another popular song back then (My God! to think I had a TV set in my room and I watched videos on MTV, so weird!). I killed my credit cards with how expensive the leather jackets were though! Best times of my life! If you were in New York City before 9/11 you were really on top of the world/the center of planet earth. You really felt invincible. Great times!

I used to listen to this song when I was only 14 years old back in the school days in mtv. Even when I was 18, I listened to this song in my friend's computer with pain and sadness in my mind that it embedded in heart. Sadly no one understood me not even my parents or friends or relatives. Now I am 33 years old and still listening to it. This song always felt like it was made for me and my struggle throughout the life like an endless loop and the obstacles after obstacles coming after me but I still kept walking and walking.
