The 49A M3 Personnel Carrier was the first military model to arrive in the Matchbox 1-75 series in 1958. It was in the range for a long time, lasting until 1967. During that time, little changed on the half-track. All were painted shades of olive drab to dark military green and all had the US Army star emblem fitted to the hood. There were a number of minor variations to the models over the years, including changes from metal wheels to plastic, colour changes from grey to black plastic, a brief track colour change from grey to green, and the axle ends went from being crimped to rounded.
This model was sent in by long time Patreon supporter Tony. It had been painted over entirely in red covering the star emblem. Like most used examples it was missing its tracks too. I restored Tony's back to its original spec using the same Tamiya TS-5 Olive Drab paint that I've used on all of my military restorations. I also had a second black-wheeled casting that I restored in a perhaps more authentic to the model darker British Green for comparison.
The M3 half-track was built from 1941 to 1945 by the American Autocar, Diamond T, and White Motor Companies. It was used by allied forces during World War II and had a huge number of variations. Over 53,000 were built and later used in the Cold War.

In post 2ww France a lot of US Military vehicles were used for off-road firefighting. So in a way that red coloure is correct. Great job restoring ;)

I'd prefer the olive drab version but with the black wheels and black tracks. They didn't come that way, but I love you did a faithful restoration. Maybe for the British racing green you could've gone with British military markings? IDK, I just like your videos. Have fun with your toys!

I like the olive drab best but I think the original color is closer to the British green.

Two very nice restorations. Both vehicles turns out beautiful. I like the idea of a Fireengine for example on a armored troops training ground, even so it is not original.

They both look great Jason! While I prefer the olive drab version, the one I had as a kid was much closer to the British Green you sprayed the second model. Thanks for sharing this tutorial.

looking fresh and new, both of them. :) a possibility could be a civilian rebuild, as the US forces left many non-military vehicles behind after the war, usually jeeps and light trucks. maybe a handful of half-tracks, to make wreckers out of them?

The olive drab looks OK but it's the grey tracks and wheels that's a bit off putting.
