Oh my good God! Never dreampt in a million years I would ever see one of my toys from the late 60s, couldn't even remember what it was called. Sticking those pegs on all my cars, trying to squeeze back overstretched springs...hours of fun and not an accident in sight! Won one of these sets, and two cases of 40 Matchbox cars, in the Kellogs Car of the Future compethtion, around 1970. They were more fun than a Scakextric I reckoned, because it was fun to drift the cars around corners. They came with tiny pkastic t-shaped pins you taped to the underside of the car. You had to carefully look after the spring which was lightly oiled and stored in a polythene bag. I guess the use of a spring limited the size of the track. It worked and was lots of fun

what a great win back in the 70's, must have been very exciting times. I have linked up 2.5 sets and use 2 power houses on each track to make mt film set. Still a bit 'sticky' and jumpy sometimes , plus the odd pile up as one car loses its pin. I hope you explore some of my videos I made with this, best wishes

I'm sitting here in the middle of the night engrossed! I have an M2 I bought a few years back and have been meaning to get it running. I'm looking at my plastic Norev 1:43 collection on my coffee table thinking they'd fly on this and being bigger there'd be much hi-jinx! Dauphines and Citroen Amis flying about, ha ha! The little Husky Toys would go really well on here too, the Anglia van and Commer Walk-Thru, Citroen Safari and VW with luggage on the roof etc. Not forgetting the Matchbox Fiat 1500 and Ford Thames Estate. Inspiring stuff, thank you! 😀

Everything else is there. Just cleaned it up but haven't tested it but the transformer does humm quietly when plugged in. Can't wait to get it running. Hopefully it will! Great video and nice tip about the bit of foil as a marker! Hopefully I might be able to get one of these tracks. Thanks for the video, it's convinced me to try to get one locally! Nice Mustang! I believe you are correct to say it might be the only Matchbox with steering. Funny story. When I was a kid I had one and it was my favorite car. Used to drive it around listening the the Beatle's tune, Drive My Car. Lost it as many of those cars do disappear. About 20 years later I was at the Picadilly Flea Market and found one mint with the box for 10£ (pounds). Was a little pricey but since I'm from the U.S. I grabbed it as I knew I would never see one again. About 10 years after I bought this Mustang my brother gives me a tub of toys from when I was younger and lo and behold my old Mustang was in there, found after about 40 years. So now I have 2 of those Matchbox Mustangs!

I liked your story about finding your old Matchbox Mustang. I had a similar story. My mom and siblings lived with my grandparents while my dad was in Vietnam. It must have been around 1967. I was 5 as I recall starting kindergarten there in Erie, Pa. We left Gram n Gramps for Philadelphia when dad returned from overseas. Twenty five plus years later, my brother and I returned to Erie to clean the house out and prepare it for sale. During the cleaning and packing, we found a few G.I. Joe's, a Buddy L metal truck with the plastic veterinary compartments, several soft plastic cars and trucks, and best of all.... some Matchbox cars! The white Cadillac Ambulance, Denver fire pumper, green and yellow BP tow truck and a teal green Land Rover. Meanwhile, back at home, I found a Motorway still in the box practically unused at a flea market. I can't recall what I paid for it, but I still have it. Yes, we played with it way back then, and it worked like the one in this video. Great fun!

I got one of these tracks for Christmas one year. It didn't have springs running through the track though. It had white nylon bands. I don't remember how they hooked together. The rest is the same. It made the same noise and it wasn't long after Christmas that my track was banned from most area's of the house my mother used. She did not like the noise. The little post that you attached to the cars came off a lot also.

So I got my second bedroom in my apartment setup with a full 1/24 scale quarter mile two lane slot drag strip. Huge 6 lane ho race track slot 1/24 scale rc mini z race track on floor and all my model cars and rc airplanes on display it's a adult dream hobby room. But this design is genius spring and motors and pins wow so simple yet so effective. It's loud as heck but more rigid then any toy sold today.

I had a Hot Wheels Sizzlers race track around 1970 or 1971(Xmas) and I thought it was really something. This Matchbox track is far superior and FAR MORE labor intensive(lol). The cars I had were polar opposites:one was really slow, the other wouldn't stay on the track. I had a lot more Matchbox vehicles because they were better made, more realistic and had more opening parts. But I loved the Hot Wheels vehicles too. I had that Mustang and that Zephyr. Great memories. Thanks.

My father never liked it but I loved it, unfortunately it was too much for my hands at the time to set it up and my father, not liking it, avoided setting it up for me.
