    I loved my Long Ranger in .308 WIn so much that I transferred ownership to my son at Christmas. His son harvested his first deer using it with a perfect boiler room shot at 100 yards a few days ago! I could not be more proud of my son, grandson and Henry Repeating Arms.

    How do you "transfer ownership"? Is this just a way to say you gave it to him or is there some other process you have to follow here you Live? Just curious

  • @rjm158

    @rjm158

    5 жыл бұрын

    An FFL holder can do the transfer. In this case, Mr. Corbin would be shown as the person the FFL received the gun from. His grandson will fill out a Form 4473 and, presuming a successful background check, the gun is now transferred to his grandson. Not always required but does create a paper trail if ownership is ever questioned.

    I’ve never understood “all weather” rifles. I’ve see and shot so many old rifles that had vent used in incliment weather for decades with plain blued steel and wood stocks. Aside from usual wear and tear they were in great shape. I think all guns are all weather.

    Reminds me of the Browning BLR. Very funny, I was going to write the company suggesting they do a rifle like this. Great minds think alike I guess. But a 6.5 creedmore barrel is needed in the mix. I love my Winchester model 88 in 308, the first rotating bolt lever action rifle.

    It literally looks like a copy of a BLR with some minor changes. The magazine especially looks exactly the same with the only exception being the flat base. If that's the case it should be a damn sweet shooting rifle. I have a BLR in 308 that will stack four rounds inside a MOA at 100 yards if I do my bit.

  • @chipsterb4946

    @chipsterb4946

    Yes - a Browning BLR has a rack & pinion operating system, with the underside of the bolt serving as the rack. It has a 6-lug, rotating bolt that engages with a barrel extension instead of locking up in the receiver (just like an AR). The BLR does not have a free floated barrel though. Talking as if this is new is a bit silly. Sako introduced their Finnwolf sometime in the 1950s using a rack & pinion action, and they switched to bolt lugs engaging with the barrel a few years after introduction.

    I already own a couple of Henry rifles. One is 17 HMR and the other is the all weather 44 magnum. Both very well made, exceptional fit and finish on both of them. Now I'm seriously considering a 3rd Henry. Just might need a Henry Long Range in 308 to compete with my Remington model 783 chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. That is one sweet looking Henry rifle. I really like the walnut stock and fore arm.

    Nice lever design. My Brother got the single shot Henry in .308, we shot it a bit. Looking forward to him getting a scope on it, so we can shoot better ammo, and at longer ranges. Still, shot well with irons at 100 yards. He got the single shot for $400 out the door.

    I’m not knocking Henry, and I’m sure it’s a great rifle. I’m just going to say that Browning has had this same exact rifle out for around 50 years now in the BLR offered in multiple calibers, so it’s not exactly revolutionary. The parts even look the exact same. But either way, both the Browning and Henry would be a good choice. With Henry made in the US, and Browning made in Japan, or Belgium depending on how old the model, all should be quality rifles.

    2 piece traditional stocks do NOT like bipods. It's the nature of the beast. The closer the support is to the receiver, the better the accuracy.

    Don't sell lever actions short in the accuracy dept., bought a Marlin 444 new in 1979 for 129.00 and had it Magna ported to take some of the bite out and while it's no long range gun it still consistently lobs 265 grainers into a single cloverleaf at 100yds.when I do my part.

    Magna ported is cutting vents in muzzle to hold muzzle jump down.Also can decrease recoil some claimed 15 to 25%.Does cause increased muzzle flash and at different angles than normal.

    As great of a round as it is, it's just not that popular. You are close to the recoil of 308 and most people would just go 308 and then 243 for low recoil. Long range guys have problems even reloading because of the lack of high bc projectiles. Same problem with 25-06

    @@kylevanwinkle2081 Yeah, they need to offer more 25 cal bullet for sure, its not like its impossible. Im sure they can get up to 140 grain , maybe a little more. Ive heard a lot of good things on 25-06, varmints to deer and some even get elk with them. I would think the 7mm-08 bullets would have a better BC vs whats able to be put in 308.

  • @bmstylee

    @@kylevanwinkle2081 you must not know much about loading. Berger has 7mm projectiles from 140-195 grains with the 140 bc @.500. The 168 vld hunter has a bc of .618. if your rifle is capable the 195 elite hunter has a bc of .755 which is pretty close to the 300 grain 338 projectile. There are a lot of good 7mm projectiles.

  • @kylevanwinkle2081

    @kylevanwinkle2081

    bills yes but you cant load a above about 168gr in a 7mm08 you just dont have the velocity potential. And with a 7mm08 and a heavy 168gr projectile recoil is going to mimic a 308. I'm not saying it's not a good cartridge but people either go 243 or 308 typically for hunting based on recoil sensitivity. 260rem and 6.5creedmoor both outperform 7mm08 in most situations

    @@kylevanwinkle2081 Thanks for the input, I have no experience with 7mm-08, or 243. Ive shot a 308, but have more experience with 30-06. Im curious in the lightweight rifles, to match the weight and recoil what caliber would be most ideal, for pretty much everything to elk, thought the 7mm-08 might of fit that, but have no experience. Some of those lightweight rifles are chambered in 270 and not sure but would think it would be a little stout.

    Or like a Browning BLR.. Why does everyone decide to use a different style rifle rather than just state the obvious? Rotating bolt, geared lever action.. Pretty dang close to a Browning if you ask me. I would be interested if they came out with a steel receiver over the aluminum. A all weather all stainless would be a version I would go after. I own a Browning BLR in 7mm-08. I get about a 1 1/2 MOA . The 200th anniversary 1860 . I would love to see Henry produce firearms that are originals. The Long Ranger is a rifle I do have some interest in possibly purchasing. I have been looking at them for awhile. I believe Henry has the potential to become a premier firearm manufacturer. I do like some of the improvements they add to older designs. The side gate as well as a tube fed is a cool concept.

    As other have mentioned, this just seems like a BLR copy. Also the better question is why would someone buy this over a bolt gun? For $900 I can buy a myriad of bolt guns with detachable box mags that are less mechanically complex(and often more accurate) and don't have a lever under the gun that may require me to move and totally screw up how my rifle is oriented on whatever rest I may be using.
