@Kevin Prima its not just people that get their top choice, but definitely people that got matched. Trust me, you've flown around the U.S. and interviewed with hospitals so you know it's one of those programs. You're not getting matched with a hospital you haven't interviewed with and want to work with. So a 3rd place option is still somewhere you reallllllly wanted to go.

@@laurenj432 That's only for residency, so 3-7 years after med school. It isn't completely an assignment either. The doctors rank their preferences and the programs rank which doctors they like. An algorithm pairs them up so every institution and doctor are the happiest possible. After residency, the doctor can try to practice wherever they want.

Can anyone explain what match days are? I'm not American
@kevinnguyen3680
4 жыл бұрын
Even after you finish medical school, you cannot practice until you complete a residency program like in family medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, etc. Each program is a diff length depending on the specialty, for example, neurosurgery is a 7 year residency. But anyways, you have to apply to these residency programs, and rank them in the order in which you'd like to go to, and you will be matched to the highest program on your list that also ranked you high enough. Match day is a pretty big deal because you find out where you're going to spend the next 3-7 years after all the hard work you put into med school.
Is it possible if you don't match? And what is the reason that you wont matchM
@abar2486
5 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s possible to not match. In that case you can reapply, I believe
@kassypele4662
5 жыл бұрын
Yes U can always reapply. That's the problem Matching is so stressful but the more schools to apply to, the more money U pay and above all, it's still NOT a guarantee that one would be matched. This thing called life can Career is never an easy rd.
the second girl really said she's attending UCSF... that's a hard flex
What happens if you don't get matched?...
Im not from America how does it work you apply to a university for your specialty and get the results like this ? What is the match situation ?
So does matching just mean you were accepted to said program?

If you don't match you have other options. You can go through the process again. My step mom didn't do a match program, she went to work in a really rural for a few years first and ended up being an emergency room doctor.

@Shaniya Hunt I. In Calfornia, the CP (Collaborating Physician) is required by law to review 1% of a PAs' cases (it is the teamwork that truly matters > autonomy). II. A specialized PA can make equal to more than a general doctor, respectfully (it is the team work that truly matters > income) III. We are all forever learning as a team, my dear colleague.
Not even in university and yet I keep watching this shit.
Congrats to everyone! Doing this in front of everyone must be extra nerve racking
Taleef khan.❤
I don’t understand this. So if they match you with a career or a location you don’t want to be, what happens then? Who is doing the matching for you? How does the process work? That guy with he Asian girl does not seem excited that he is in internal medicine.
@surgeon1016
4 жыл бұрын
Jupe367 it’s an algorithm that does all of your matching and what specialty you’ll be doing
@michelea2326
4 жыл бұрын
You're not just randomly match to some random program. You interview and apply to programs where you want to practice. You get matched within those programs. It's expensive to apply to these programs and you have to fly around to interview so most of these students have 1 to 5 places they want to work with and applied to. So even if you get you're 5th choice it's still somewhere you REALLY want to go.
