Matamp - How to build a Speaker Cabinet, Part 2
Музыка
www.tuneyoursound.com has visited Matamp in the UK. Jeff Lewis himself builds a vintage Matamp cabinet and shows all the skills accumulated since the '60 in building high end music amplification devices

As a machinist, I've spent a lot of time working with old timers honing my skills. I learned more from those guys than any school could ever teach. This guy reminds me of a few of them.
Thanks to all who like you are working so hard daily in order to get us to enjoy with music! Long life Jeff !
So much work involved, craftmanship.
Great 2 videos. Been wanting to build a 4x12 for a while now.
..good job, Mr. Jeff !!!
Very interesting, great to see a true craftsman at work... tho' have to agree, I would have prefered without the music... Thanks fro sharing. OP
Very helpful video. I was wondering how the front baffle is mounted inside that particular cab. Thank you.
Awesome Job Jeff! \m/
please put up part 0, actually making the cab please.
Awesome job! Do you have any tutorials on installing fender grill cloth on a baffle and also installing piping? Can't seem to find any help. Thx!
Watching this guy work sobered me up quick. It wouldn't hurt a few CEOs to see a guy like this put in eight hours at the bench.

How do you know that a CEO never came up through the ranks? General Motors new CEO not only came up through the ranks but is a women as well. I guess it never occurred to you that in general terms, people aspire to their potential. This guy might be great at this particular set of skills but my be a complete mess managing groups of workers along with planning and financial duties (as an assumption). Not everyone can do manual labor and not everyone can function in a corporate environment, but to assume one is better then the other is just fucking stupid. If you need to sober up quick jackass, get out of your cave every now and then. The world is changing all around you, that computer in front of you is driving that change. Eight hours at the bench, are you fucking kidding me?

Those are very big assumptions sir plus something tells me that the man in the video is more then just a worker. No, it seems like your just a disgruntled worker. Just so you know, Meta makes great stuff but I don't think they are in business anymore. As far as no work in America, you obviously don't understand basic economics. China's output has slowed, the EU still has not recovered due to the pull down from Spain and Greece. America is the only industrialized nation to at least not have zero growth in their GDP.

***** Yup the response of a peasant mentality. The inability to truly understand the complexities of the world around him, forces the peasant to lash out in anger rather than try to understand the issue and offer an intelligent response. Dennis must live in Greece.

Jj Jones America is not a country. North America and South America is called continet. The USA is a country IN North America ;)
Yes, it is the old way of building the handles of the box. You have a slot on the outside to put your hand trough to lift the box and inside you have this wooden cover to prevent the access to the speakers.
what tool is being used when he puts the piping around the cabinet?
Yes!
Oh Yes, it would of been nice to see the joinery part. MATAMPS!
It's a heat gun. It's used to help the tolex be more flexible and adhere to the cabinet better.
@beeroosterm The "open" design was addressed with that box at the 6:55 mark, just after the title screen for "Putting the Speakers In."
I like the video, but......My god what an annoying music at 3:12.

There's a frequency that was killing me there, i stopped the music to check my speaker. Killing me. I dunno why.
Yes all assembly work is done either with wood glue or wood screws.
Thanks ;) Does he just use wood screws to mount the speakers?
Well, there's always the option of muting the video and running Winamp in the background. That way people won't get into an argument about whether he should've used Dvořák, Paganini or Roxette.
what's the purpose of that block he screws in to the inside of the cab at 6:54? And what do you call that?

Jesse Cole looks like handle covers so stuff doesn’t get inside the cabinet.
WHY he puts the speakers inside the baffle board suond change? thanks
Oh and i agree with what theodore said.

This can be found in the free copyright library in youtube. Not additional information is available, sorry.
anyone else notice the crushed speaker frames? id be pissed
Did he screw those speakers straight in to the baffle???
Agree, it would have been nice to listen to the actual recorded audio.
I always had heard you weren't supposed to screw the speakers in until you visibly see the frames bend...
What's going on at 6:36?

He grooved the cab all around to stick inside the wire that you saw at 5:51. He did it twice actually and it's just to give it a better look. You can actually see it on at 8:58
Does anyone know the exact name of that grill cloth that he uses at 2:19?

I am a custom cab builder, the tubing you refer to is known as string, it is plastic and available in various colours and diameters, see Matamp heads with white string, Vox and Marshall with gold.

so in looking for it i would just google "guitar cab string"?
@tommulraney6350

you would find it through a supplier of cab components. in the USA, try Mojotone. i am in Scotland, i ship mine from England and Germany. Matamp actually use a thin 2.5mm electrical cable as cab string. works great and good colour options.
If you hit the mute button, you can listen to whatever you want.
They most likely used t-nuts.
Wow, $1000 and a long ass wait for a cab that has smashed speaker frames??? ever heard of a torque setting screw gun? I'd expect some shit like that from some of the other companies but seriously, this video shows how not to install your speaker., nice job on the grill cloth though....

and shit for speakers... wtf?
The music is so loud on this video that I had to turn the volume off on my TV.
yeah, track is way cheesy. would be great with commentary as mentioned
Why did you skip the Piping installation??? That's one of the hardest things to do well in amp building. We clearly saw him cutting along the groove but we don't see him insert the piping... it's just magically there later... Such a master should not have his words of wisdom and instruction covered up, ESPECIALLY by the music you chose!...
Very interesting. The music sucks. A good commentary would be better or even let Jeff speak!

IKR, the camera skills and the lack of lavalier mic made me not subscribe the channel, as a visual producer, this annoys me... let the expert talk and work in his own flow. Cameras distracted him so much he made some mistakes in the proper installation
is he mad?

I think he's just havin fun at work ;)
yea this video is kind of useless without his instructions.... plus I think the music sux.
great master building but can someone please remove this annoying excuse for music there must be a hell of a lot more classic music we can listen too how about the guy just speaking so we can hear what he is doing step by step just a thought
The music is so annoying
Turn that DAMN music OFF and let the MAN TALK, I want to HEAR him not the music, my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Music gotta go
Geez, replacing a ripped grille is major surgery.I'm not a big fan of warped speaker frames either.I'll stick with Ampeg made in America.
I would much rather hear the man building talk and explain what he is doing rather than listen this crappy synth music.
Jesus, this is the worst music I've ever heard.
