🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."
🔌 Electric or Diesel-Electric: Your Power, Your Choice 🔌
Edison Motors offers both fully electric and diesel-electric vocational trucks based on customer demands. The onboard generator ensures continuous operation in areas lacking charging infrastructure.
💡 Advantages of Electric: Power, Torque, Longevity 💡
Edison Trucks bring increased power, torque, reliability, and longevity. Inspired by electric freight trains, regenerative ability harnesses energy for efficient uphill climbs.
⚙️ Efficiency Redefined: Diesel-Electric Technology ⚙️
Diesel-electric technology delivers peak load demand energy supply. Batteries initiate movement, and the diesel generator recharges the battery, capturing braking energy for restarts. The generator's constant RPM eliminates turbo lag.
🌿 Environmental Benefits: Paving the Way for Change 🌿
Diesel-electric technology results in up to 70-100% fuel savings, directly correlating to a 75%-100% reduction in diesel exhaust. Smaller lithium batteries mean less environmental damage. Diesel-electric offers a practical transition to electric for energy-intensive trucking industries. Generator diesel engines ensure optimal fuel/air ratio, contributing to a hotter and cleaner burn of emissions.

I remember our old farm truck was a 5x4 twin stick with a third stick for the 2speed rear 😂

My first twin was a 64 binder which was referred to as the Halloween truck bright orange fenders and cowlings with a jet black cab…I wish I could say the truck was older then me…😂

At first I thought he'd mention that the steering wheel would be on the left side. Then I thought, maybe trucks are different in Scotland. It was all cleared up when I noticed that it actually switches sides.

Pretty much what a Spicer box does but on one stick. "reversed" H pattern 5 speed with a 4 way toggle switch. Really sorted the drivers from the steering wheel attendants.

My first was an old IHC 190/549 gas job. 5x4 and a worn out steering box. Quite a bit of grind them to find them in the beginning. Caught on in a bit. Would love to try those log trucks. Especially an old Hayes or Pacific. Maybe with an old Detroit too.

We still have a 190 with the 549 on the farm but it’s mated to just a 5 speed with a 2 speed rear end. It was a thirsty old gal when we last used it 20 years ago.

That was really quick. I understand because I have driven log trucks. Well I moved them so I could clean them on the weekends. I was still in high school

Mack truck dual-plex, tri-plex and quad-plex from the 40s, 50s and 60s, learned to drive them in the early 80s while working as a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic. Grew up in the mountains and had lots of stone quarries around with some serious heavy duty trucks (double and triple frames were the norm.)They were still running them into the late 90s

Tractors from the mid to late 90's onwards have a similar transmission setup. Deutz has a stick shift 6, with 4 ranges(?)(LMHS)that you can switch between with buttons on the shifter or a knob of the right arm rest. And Fendt had a toggle switch with 4 positions. Our Renault also has direct/overdrive / high/low with a lever on the right side of the steering wheel.

I ran a paystar with a twin stick. I just used direct and overdrive as I was hauling corn to the elevator on nice gravel roads.

Logically, seems to work (mathematically) like the twin shifters on a 12- or 18-speed bike.

Yep, there is a time and a place for all gears, but not all gear combinations are needed from a stop.

@@wobblysauce Absolutely, It also depends on where you are on the trip. Mile 1 I'd often start in 2-5. Mile 50 was 1-7.

My biggest question with these was always how you could not money shift. Like if you're in 4th direct and you need a tiny bit more torque, do you 3rd overdrive? 5th low? How can you know what combination is higher or lower than the gear you're in?

My understanding is that the aux box ratios are spaced closer together (excepting the low range) than the main. So if you're going down 1 ratio, and you're not in the lowest aux ratio, shift the aux. 4th direct you can go up or down in the aux so I'd do that first. If I'm in low in the aux then I'm going down one in the main and probably going to direct in the aux as I've been losing speed while shifting.

Can’t you just put it in low while carrying stuff and once you get up to speed switch it it direct or over and then switch gear using the 5-speed. If I’m saying stuff like an idiot, please enlighthen me.
