Really helpful presentation, you've condensed so much good practice into 8 minutes. I will be directing QSW and students alike to this.

Hello, thank you for the tips. I just had a written task for admission this afternoon and I didn’t make it through, I was given a case study The home conditions are described as ‘extremely dirty’ and ‘almost uninhabitable’. There is a two year old child in the home who is often heard screaming and appears unkempt. There are two adults in the home, one of whom is thought to have care and support needs. You have been asked to undertake an assessment. In three to four sentences for each bullet point, please outline how you would respond; What you think might be happening, for example whether there are any risks or support needs? Who you should talk to and why? What you can do to promote the service users’ rights? What the next steps might be? I was lost.. yes I know I didn’t make it for the admission but I will stil want to know what to do

Well immediately i would say the child's basic pjysiological needs underpinned by maslow is not being met... therefore under section 47 safeguarding may be necessary where a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. However, before going in "guns blazing' it is important to consider the family situation, whereby family involvement and engagement is encouraged to deepen our understanding of what their life actually looks like... in this case, a child is being neglected and this is considered abuse however safeguarding should be proportionate and it seems like the family is not deliberately harming the child rather, the family is unable to look after the child due to parents need of support in health and social care. This is where i would now link the care act whereby a care assessment should be implimented to support the adult (parent) with support to achieve greater wellbeing. This is also underpinned in the children act in section 17 whereby due to the principle of family care being the best care, services should first be imlimented to help the family look after a child before considering safeguarding procedures under sec 47 whereby a care order is made to remove a child from the home. (This is my response, after a little thought so its not really a planned essay answer but it maybe has useful ideas.) I am also due an exam in 2 weeks 🙃 😅

In terms of who to talk to : this would be the organisations Multi disciplinary team and the wider organisations... I would first raise the concern theough safeguarding policies of the agency im working in, which will probabaly be contacting a safeguarding team or possible simply raise concern with my supervisor or manager if the threat is not as seriouse or uncertain. From there I could imagine a multi disciplinary team meeting would be made (havnt looked into this much) whreby enquires and visits are done engaging with the family to understand their situation and how best to help them. (In this case you are the one visiting and enquiring ) therefore you would need to attempt to gain understanding of the family whislt applying your knowledge of theories and law to contribute to your professional judgement of what is the next best interest decision for the child. This is where needs and risk is evaluated and depending on the outcome a section 17 will be implimented or sec 47
