Whether you dance flamenco, you sing, you play guitar, palmas, percussion… you need to practice COMPÁS, the rhythm a LOT, in all its forms, and in the first place with the palmas and the foot. In this video, I explain to you a very important palmas clapping pattern por bulería, and we practice it together in many different ways so that you understand it, feel it and be able to apply it, to use it.
Many exercises included that help:
- practice your compás, your sense of rhythm
- understand better what flamenco musicians and dancer do from a rhythmic persperctive
- enhance your creativity
- use the material your already know in many different ways
- practice the “get lost and come back”

Thank you so much. great video. Can you talk about when is it appropriate to change palmas rhytnms? Is it just according to what you are feeling from the guitarist and/or singer? like an accompanist to a solo?

Thanks a lot for the comment! 2 things here: - You don't really change "rhythm" but palmas patterns. You are always por bulería, with all the possibilities it gives you, and there are many to chose from! - This is, in my opinion, a common misconception: there is not necessarily an "appropriate" or "right" way, it's really about choices. Anything will work as long as you follow the rules of the compás. Polyrhythm is part of the bulería feel. Different patterns or feels will give different lighting or contrasts depending on what the others (guitar, dance...) are doing. But everything is right or appropriate. Try to play different patterns on the same thing, and you'll see what I mean. I'll make a video about that, that's a great topic. Cheers! :-)

@@FlamencoMAPS Thank you!. I am a drummer and I LOVE Paco DeLucia, but I don't know how to Palmas, yet. In jazz drumming, when a new musician begins a solo, I play very simply at first, and then build intensity depending on the soloist. Does the palmas work the same way? Is there a "foundation" palmas rhythm for each song?

@@thaddeuscorea that's very interesting! Yes, you usually want to build up intensity with the palmas, depending on what's happening. You can modulate patterns, sound (claras or sordas), intention and volume. Sometimes you go with palmas "lisas" (just straight beats), and also "jaleos" help a lot (vocal interjections.) More on palmas here if you haven't watched it yet : kzread.info/dash/bejne/gHiFpdqnY7DSZ7g.html
