YO CHAT! This is a REUPLOAD from OVER 7 MONTHS AGO because for SOME REASON it's still 100% RELEVANT POST release. By no means am I trying to make Z3 seem like it has some crazy wicked combat or something, I'm merely pointing out that the whole "bro just mash. It's so mashy. Only mash so bad!" is one of the dumbest frickin' things anyone can say about these games. EVER! You don't HAVE to do these things, but don't act like they DON'T exist. Just like I don't HAVE to EV/IV train in Pkmn, but it DOES exist and makes my gameplay experience SIGNIFICANTLY better/more enjoyable. Moral of this story. HAVE FUN the way YOU want to. Stop trying to rain on other people's parade.

it doesn't really matter what the game does tho, what matters that most is how the customers feel about your game. And if people feel that the game is button smashy, it's the game's fault for not integrating these mechanics into the story. Maybe if the game had focused more on combat instead of TVs people would have had more time to learn about the mechanics.

People complain when mechanics are explained too quickly, people complain when mechanics are explained at a normal pace, you can't please everyone. Also, no, someone thinking something is button mashing doesn't actually mean it's button mashing. That's stupid logic. Maybe instead of rushing the game to look for endgame and then whining because you very clearly did not pay sufficient attention to game mechanics, you can slow down and enjoy the full experience. Also, story has always been mainly about story. Not combat. And the TV system is an inherent part of the story. It's common sense.

Pretty bad example because EV and IV training are needed for competitive play within the Pokémon games. Online battles do exist, whereas in ZZZ, you mash your way through everything. Even if we ignore that, let's be realistic. There is a reason why Cynthia memes exist for Pokémon Platinum. You stock up on Max Revives and Potions whenever battling her. You can't just mash Dragon Claw and beat the Elite Four. You still need type knowledge and type coverage, which are as important as EVs and IVs, adding depth. Even if this weren't the case, there are still other places you can use this knowledge of EVs and IVs, like Smogon/Pokémon Showdown. There's also the fact that Pokémon is literally a PEGI 7 game, inherently meant for children. People who just want to "...catch 'em all" and don't care about combat, unlike ZZZ, which is a combat-focused game. Pokémon Go's massive success is my evidence of that. The selling point of Pokémon is mainly catching your favorite Pokémon. Yes, battling is a huge part of it, but it's not the biggest. Regardless, in ZZZ, if there is no place that I HAVE to express my skill, why would I go through the effort of doing so, knowing that I could have done it a simpler and easier way? You need places where people have to min-max and get sweaty.

not a hidden input, but my favorite hidden combo so far is Anby's combo extension. You can use both the skill AND her hold attack in a single combo. By using skill on your 4th normal attack and then tapping normal attack, you can immediately go into the hold attack. This effectively extends the combo by 2 moves (1NA and 1 skill), and you can trigger her self buffs from her "eidolons" easier by doing so. On top of that, as a daze character, having 2 additional attacks in her combo MASSIVELY boosts her capability as a Daze unit since it's more dase buildup in a single combo.

@@branastasia8013 Not every. Not even every gacha game. Hi3rd reuqires difficult rotations with occasional dodges/parries, same for pgr. Wuwa requires a lot of reaction gameplay, aka dodging and parrying all the time while trying to somewhat stick to the rotation to the best of your abilities, 2-3 missed hits = dead against hologram bosses/last difficulty roguelike mode/some abyss bosses. And outside of gachas we have games like dmc, every Fromsoft game, and most of action open/semi openworld games don't allow for mindless button mashing, even latest assassin's creed games made for complete casuals. Yet the beginning of zzz is just "spam normal attack for 20s because your skill doesn't wanna recharge, wait till a mindless enemy finally tries to hit you, dodge, rince and repeat". That's understandably not fun. I'm giving the game a fair chance so i'm sticking till endgame but I can't blame people who uninstalled in the first 5 hours.

One thing I really like about ZZZs gameplay is the high player expression. Most action gacha games these days have gameplay where you basically just do the same rotation over and over or else you are no longer being optimal. With ZZZ you have a basic strategy with how you want to progress through your characters, but a lot of the actions you takes are reactionary to what the enemies are doing which creates more variance in battles.

If this causes a stun, use a heavy attack like a charge attack or ex special attack on your next character to trigger a chain attack and you'll be back to Piper. This way, you can refresh Piper's Power Charge stacks and keep the 18% bonus damage for the team longer.

What people are really trying to complain about is that you can mash, and find success at all levels of the game currently. It's similar to the issue FF16 had, in that the combat system had a lot of really nuanced mechanics, that could make the combat a lot more engaging, but the game's difficulty didn't require you to actually learn or use any of those mechanics. You could spam the skills you start with, and have great success the entire game. It's unfortunate that ZZZ fell into this same trap. To its credit, it does get more "difficult" the deeper in you get, but a lot of the issues you'll run into even there are more likely to be team comp than actual difficulty with what the enemy is doing.

Definitely a good thing to post again. Though I do think the game doesn't tell the player enough in some cases. Not in regard to hidden inputs, but the amount of people I have seen that were unaware you could use your skill while it is not enhanced is mind boggling, and I can totally understand why people would be bored if they didn't know they had an entire separate button they could use.

The problem isn't lack of complexity. Any game can be made complex based off user buy-in. The bigger problem is the lack of Combo variety. The same exact problem happened with Dragon Ball Kakarot. You can only sit and do the same combo for so long before it becomes grating.

The smashing buttons is obviously not literal. Yeah there's all those complexities in combat like you explained. COOL. But that's all completely _irrelevant_ when the enemies don't move, when it's too easy to parry or dodge, when the game itself does the battle for you. Their "challenge modes" are just bigger hps, not even new mechanics from the enemies. Now, this might change in the future, I _HOPE_ they will add enemies that are actually challenging. But for now, just smash your buttons and you'll be fine. I myself have 0 idea what my characters' skills are. I never lost so far.

Why it's so hard to understand that because most people simply won't learn these hidden combos and inputs even if they know it exists, YEARS of fighting games history can already tell you that. They already said they want to make a high skill ceiling low entry system. They won't make these a necessity especially in the story and this early into release for that matter, yes, including "hard mode". What you should see is that the underlying system is already there, enemies are just additions and can be tweaked any time.

This game already has one of my favorite battle systems in gaming. As someone who loves action-RPGs(especially Tales Of, which many have intricate combos) and action hacknslash like Bayonetta and Astral Chain, I feel right at home. Yes, the combat in ZZZ isn't super deep, but it still has enough complexity to learn mechanics that the usual button masher won't go into. As well as how incredibly intuitive, dynamic, and smooth the combat feels. ZZZ truly nailed game-y combat. ✨️

  • @MH3Raiser

Thank you so much for this video, it actually opened my eyes. As primarially a fighting game player too, I was also thinking this game probably had a lot more depth than it first appeared, and after this video decided to hit the lab with my favourite character Billy Kid and jesus christ there's a lot going on there. Billy's first weapon encourages you to keep your distance from your enemy, which implies he's a simple ranged attacker using his rolling dodges out of crouching fire to continously shoot and keep his distance. The problem with this is that it does bugger all damage anyway, contributes no stun and generally slows fights down. I looked ahead at his levelling route and his next weapon, lets look at them in combination: - Billy Level 1: Dash attack/Dodge Counter generate bonus ultimate - Billy Level 2: Rolling dodge can be used as perfect dodge and dodge counters gain increased damage - Billy's second weapon: Performing a perfect dodge increases damage by 12% for 12 seconds - Billy Level 4: Special Attack gains bonus crit% at close range This was a suprise to me; it implied billy could and should be played as a close range dodge character, which sounded much more fun. This is when I hit the lab and did some damage testing and what I found blew the character wide open. Billy's crouching fire isn't a 'move', it's a 'state'. You can cancel Billy's crouching shots into any action; a dash attack, a special attack, a perfect dodge attack and he continues to fire crouching out of the end of the move... unless you break the chain. The second you stop firing or linking moves together, he has to continuously fire to re-enable the state. And this is where it gets really wild: *any move used in 'crouching fire' gains the FULL bonus damage. You can test for yourself: Billy's special attack has a final hit which registers at the end of it; it increases by approx 30% which lines up with the base damage increase of crouching shot. So to play Billy and maximise damage, you have to be continuously firing and dodging using perfect dodge out of rolling dodge to keep your damage buff rolling. This must be done at close range to A) Prompt your enemy to attack and B) Be in range to deliver your special attack at point blank range for max crit. Beyond that, his only 'long duration' switch cancel is immediately after a rolling shot: he'll do the flip, fire for a few seconds and finish with the crouching shot ender. This is a lot of shit to do, and basically none of it is explained to you by the game, and I think that's awesome. Maybe it's the fighting game player in me, but figuring out this stuff for myself, testing it and finding synergies to use with it gives me life. Don't sleep on characters in this game, they're much more complicated than they look or the game tells you. And if you think things have massive HP pools... get gud.
