Matty - I hope viewers realize how generous this is for you to share your techniques and experience. I only mix 8 - 10 songs in a year, so having this insight is a huge help. Most of my effort is in composition and arranging.

Thanks for the great practical tips - I find vocals are by far the hardest instrument to get sounding pro.

3:01 click in the purple area and it should turn blue and lock in your peaks, much easier to select precise frequencies.

Great video Matty. Really useful techniques. I probably need to have a look at that Antares EQ, seems like a good tool.

In order to disable Event FX’s, click the small arrow to the left of the “Event FX” label at the bottom of the inspector (to the left of the orange “Render” button). You can also do that in the performance view (click the performance meter in the transport bar at the bottom), then Ctrl+click the Event FX plugins, then the click the “Active” box to switch them off/on.

I understand how to disable event fx 😀 What I was trying to say is a I can't bypass the plugins and disable event fx at same time for comparison. I should have been more clear with what I was trying to say lol

@@mixedbymatty oh sorry, I didn't get that : ) actually you can do that in the performance monitor window (you'd have to click "Show devices" in order to show the plugins), then Ctrl+click the plugins you want to activate/deactivate at once, and check/uncheck the box to the left of the plugin names

Fantastic video- well done man. I listen to these videos on my phone, quite often - just for entertainment. However, listening in my monitoring environment, as you selectively notch out some of those vocal frequencies is a really really powerful exercise. Once you hear them,. you cant unhear them - vocals are tough and this is actually really good practice.

I'm curious would you bounce the vocal after clean up for cpu or do you leave it there for tweaking. Something to be said for putting something out of your mind.

I tend to leave it. Once instruments start interacting with the vocal you still might have to go back to adjust things.

Depending on your CPU. I’d say bounce and make vocal tracks inactive to free up CPU so you can work on other instruments and if you need to tweak something on the vocal just make it active again😊
