Hi Sergio, I had the opportunity to use your valuable advice. The result is a short film about my new passion for living with bees in the mountains. Most of the shots were taken with Canon EOS-M Crop Mood 5.2K 12Bit. I caught a Wild Bee Swarm in June 2023. This was the beginning of a new challenge, how to work with the bees. My bees have a “comfortable pied à terre” in a Layens Horizontal Hive in my backyard. I recently performed my first inspection of the hive, video is on my channel, the bee colony survived the harsh winter!

Well man, your shots are great. Some bees details are amazing and I liked so much the snow scenes at the end. This could be a beautiful short documentary if you could edit the duration to about 8-10 minutes introducing a voice over explaining your works and the bees behavior, that would help a lot with spreading your video to more people. Share the link of your video on the Facebook group "MLV RAW ON EOS M", the greatest community for Magic Lantern EOS M passionate people, it could help you to get more views and followers, explaining how you shoot your video. By the way what lenses did you use?, the images are very sharp, what other camera did you use for your shots (you said most of the shots were taken with the EOS-M, so other shots were taken with another camera I suppose)
Again. Professional and Precise. Thoroughly important to understand the behavior of ML. Thank you.

Thanks you so much!!
I noticed this some time back. Seems ML allows two correct exposure options. A bright 'technically correct exposure' and a dark (cinematic) exposure... this is best illustrated by your demonstration in of your exposure discrepancy with ire on the false color. Look at the shorts with the lady. One looks dark but cinematic, while the other looks bright but almost British TV technically correct. Basically the exposure determined the look. The I technically correct and creative correct.

Thanks!! More light means more information in dark areas and it helps with video noise. Then we can lower the exposure in post, trying to balance the shadow and get the look we are looking for.
Thank you Sergio for an informative and precise document on an important but rarely discussed topic. As usual, I watch your instructive projects with great pleasure, absorbing new, fascinating knowledge about Magic Lantern - Crop Mood.

My pleasure! try to make some test. For me to use false color when I take my shots became indispensable
@RhythmicEye

@@russo-filmmaking will do some tests. I tested with a light meter a long time ago and found the same discrepancy of 1 or 2 stops from what is on screen. The problem I found is "real time preview". Try using the "framing preview" for exposure instead in your test to see if you have a similar result as me. Faming preview is more accurate I believe

Correction "framing preview" is more accurate
@russo-filmmaking

I tested it. Really you are right. In framing mode light gray corresponds to green. So we can say that if you are in framing mode the magic lantern legend has a normal behavior like most of the cameras with green 18% gray. It doesn't mean that it's more accurate than real time preview. We all shot using realtime preview, (framing is low quality and jittery, not acceptable), we only have to read the false color legend in a different way using as middle gray the light gray. The reading will be as accurate as the reading used in framing mode, only the interpretation of the legend changes. But I learned something new: thanks!!

@@russo-filmmaking yes agree 100%. When I say more accurate I mean it's closer to my Sekonic Light meter reading and the final RAW file without needing to compensate too much, as you must do for the discrepancy in Real Time Preview. RTP is much better for monitoring and shooting especially once you become aware of how best to expose for it to keep detail in the shadows. Pleased you found the info useful🙂

Hola, gracias!!

If you're referring to the old version of Danne, you don't need to because Crop Mood is so much better. If you're referring to Danne's modified Crop Mood, I'll make a comparison between Danne's Crop Mood and the original Crop Mood
