Amazing lesson! When I played high school drum line (late 80s, early 90s) we did matched grip so I never properly learned traditional. I still practice now and then. This lesson is just what I needed, thank you!

I have had an ahead pad and it was very like a marching drum. But the laminate on top has a plastic bottom surface that cracks easily so needs replacing often in my experience.

Your pad is quite low, do you usually play that low or is it for a better view? Thanks!

the camera angle is a little deceiving, if you wear a belt I have my drum the height of the middle of the buckle.

I just started drum lessons two weeks ago - my first lesson was all about learning the different grip styles, how to get the fulcrums right, etc... For whatever reason, the traditional grip instantly resonated with me, which surprised my drum teacher, he said that most people tend to favor the match grip. There was just something about the traditional grip that made much more sense to me - as if it helps me to mentally separate all differing strokes and their times better. Anyone else feel this way? Thanks for this video, it was insurmountably helpful!

That does happen. Sometimes people take to it like that. I learned matched grip first on drumset but learned traditional once I was on snare line in highschool and college. Good to know both. Drum on🤘
