I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

One of my favorite ways to drop shot is to wacky rig a 4 inch senko...this setup will catch them when nothing else will

I would say a Ned rig. Like those it will catch all species of fish. Big ones little ones and numbers. Also very easy to fish. That was a good list and I definitely didn't expect a drop shot. But once you mentioned it I thought yep I can see that

1.) A 7" green pumpkin ribbon tail on a Texas rig will catch big ones and flat out get bit because I believe not enough people throw them anymore. 2.) Drop shot a 4" Robo Worm. ( Hologram Shad, or Oxblood Red Flake) 3.) Keitech on a 1/4oz Owner ball head (Shad, Electric Shad Colors) Those are my 3 out here in California.

Very helpful video. I struggle with what to have new anglers use… wacky and Ozark Rigs I had newbies use today. Something that keeps them interested and new anglers are not all the same.

glad they worked
Matt, vmc spinshot drop shot may be easier to use drop shotting being they only have to buy the preferred hook and attach it to the main line and the built in swivel will help them eliminate line twist

A few other beginner ideas are a tube, a chatterbait, a ned rig, and an old school topwater (popper, jitterbug)

For inexperienced anglers I would have to say Weedless Ned rig and crank baits. Had my neighbor and his two teenage boys on the boat last evening for 3 hours and we killed it. Both those techniques and we caught 27 fish.

I'd have to recommend topwater. Especially a chuck n wind type of retrieve/lure. Such as a whopper popper type or a lure that creates a ton of action. The blow up on a topwater is what got me hooked on bass fishing.

A weightless texas-rigged senko would be my choice, especially in grassy lakes.

I agree with one and three . But I would say the ned over the dropshot . You can't fish one wrong and the numbers speak for it .

As the video began, my very 1st thought was a wacky rig, which is what I turn to on a slow day. 2nd was a small paddle tail, which is my go to search bait.

My go-to is a Carolina Rig with a Brush Hog or 4" Senko style stick bait for dragging, then a buzz bait for the top.

I agree and would add a Texas rigged worm for category 4. If you use a weighted wacky jig head like the Gamakatsu wacky jig head, you can also fish your wacky rig along drop off areas - I caught 5 in an hour and a half tonight on the wacky jig head. I tried a squarebill, a shaky head, a swimbait and an underspin but I could only catch those suspended bass on a weighted wacky jig with a 6” worm tonight 😉
Great advice, Matt! We're right on with a small swimbait and a stickbait. I'll throw in Ned too. I'll make sure I say hi if I see you at Taps and Tackle, Metro Market or Guu's! Always great stuff.

Three of my local stops!
I think a swimjig could definitely be the alternative to the swimbait if desired and probably is my goto honestly where that bait tends to be more weedless, but yet still in many ways can provide the same look pending on how you outfit it, and really more of that immediate feel of the bite, similarly to the swimbait.
@MattStefanFishing

A swim jig is easy to fish not a big learning curve and it generates tons of bites. I definitely has become my confidence bait!

Spinner bait, wacky worm and a crank bait. Great video as always. Spinner bait generates big bites from big fish and is probably the best as far as easy to use

They are ok
Well I’m pretty old school been fishing since the late 1960s as a kid. In my opion you must be good at top water fishing .. And I’ll agree with soft plastics Texas Rig or Free Rig etc. After that crank baits , jerk baits , spin baits , jigging it’s all important . Frist would be top water and 2nd would be soft plastics. 3rd would be a jump ball. 🤔 Getting a tad off topic is casting . You really need to be proficient . I’m going into my 60s and my fishing lives and dies but the top water bite .

One of the most expensive parts of your terminal tackle is that weight😂, at least here in Ontario Canada. Tungsten 2-3 pack is close to $10-$12; converted, that’s about $6 your money, not our loony tunes money 😂😂😂

I would think out of all these, if someone would put in the time it would be a SENKO TEXAS, WACKY, NEKO, NED, WEIGHTED OR WEIGHTLESS. The Senko catches everything everything everything
