    Xavier from chateauneuf du pape/ southern rhone makes some oustanding reasonably priced wines which is a blend of several vintages. Sometimes he even mix regions too. He makes an outstanding wine which is half chateauneuf du pape and half cote rotie and from several vintages .Also Vega Sicilias top vine unico reserva especial is made of a blend of several vintages.

    I wish I could remember more easily good and bad vintages when I stand in front of the wines section in the supermarket. Last week I was standing in front of 2 Margaux 2016 and 2017 and couldn't remember which one was the good vintage for Bordeaux. I decided to buy the 2017 and then when I got home and checked the magazine I read, I realised it was 2016 that I should have bought 🤦‍♀️ Thank you for this video Bob ❤

    At least in this case, it’s not like either one was a poor vintage. Why not check your phone for the vintage specifics? I find myself doing that from time to time.

    Cool video. I’ve seen MV (multi-vintage) on some menus lately for non-vintage wine, especially champagne. I like your tastings! Maybe you could do a common grape from “uncommon” areas? Chardonnay from the Jura, Uruguay, Tasmania……. Common price point …..

    Vintage charts is your best bet. Use a reputable source. Berry Bros from the UK is very good. Winemaker notes are too often a marketing persons notes.

    Awesome video. Vintage matters for those of us that are "into wine". Vintage is like the latest label of my Grocery outlet find "plan de dieu". On the market there are engineered wines like Chateau St Michelle which are reasonably good, but do not show any vintage character. But, then there are the vintage wines, that oh, yeah, some years, OMG, other years, Meh. It is kind of like what makes wine fun and interesting.

    Ron, thanks for posting your comment. Vintage and it’s variations os one of the things that makes wine more interesting. Some upcoming videos will feature aged wines, there vintage means a lot.

    I noticed that a lot of my Bordeaux grand cru wines have aluminium capsules to cover the cork with NO small holes in it… Isn't this necessary for the very small exchange of oxygen over time or ventilation of the cork? It seems to me almost impossible for oxygen to pass through an aluminum capsule with no openings/holes. And maybe more important, what about humidity? The aluminum capsule is tightly wrapped around it, so the environment can't keep the cork in good condition, can it?

    Thank you the comment. The air transfer is minuscule. I checked the wines in my cellar. The majority of the capsules have no punctures in the capsules. I’d be more concerned with maintaining the proper temp and minimizing the exposure to UV light.

    Hey Bob, what would you recommend to someone interested in working in the wine industry with an importer or broker? What education to get, who to talk to, how to break into the industry. Thank you!

    Hi Bobby, either the CSW or the WSET are good foundational education programs. In terms of breaking in, network on LinkedIn. Check postings in trade publications like Wine Business Monthly. There’s a good amount of hiring now. It’s a good time to look.

    Thanks for the comment. I’ve some experience with the wines from Baja which produces the vast majority from Mexico, but it’s not something that I see very often in export markets. I’ve had some solid Nebbiolo, Cab Sauv, Petite Sirah and Chenin Blanc from Baja.

    Hi sir. I dind it hard to understand the vintage port or declaration thingy

  • @bobpaulinskimasterofwine

    @bobpaulinskimasterofwine

    10 ай бұрын

    Hello. The declaration is all about what the producer decides. It’s based on each individual Port producer, not a one size that fits all. On average, about 3 years in 10 are vintage years for Port. I know, clear as mud! 😂
