My Favorite Brunello Producers | Building Your Wine Collection

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I list out my favorite producers in the Brunello di Montalcino region to help you continue building your wine collection. I have yet to go wrong with wines from these folks. Please note that this is NOT a video about the BEST Brunello producers as there are plenty of wines I have yet to try. These recommendations are purely based on my Brunello tasting activities through the years.
Just in case you don't want to watch this video (which wouldn't make any sense to me), the faves are listed alphabetically below:
CastelGiocondo
Ciacci Piccolomini
Costanti
Fuligni
Il Poggione
Poggio Antico
Valdicava
Enjoy.

Wow, our palates and interests seem to be very aligned, Chris. I buy as much Poggione and Ciacci as I can every year to lay down. Love Argiano, too, but I think their prices are going up, up, up…

That is great to hear! I probably should track prices a bit closer as I didnt notice the Argiano trend.

Thanks for jumping in Alfonso. Have never tasted a Casanova di Neri but am always looking for the opportunity. Valdicava wines are pricey but they are just gorgeous, enjoy.

I love Brunello! If i remember correctly, Biondi Santi literally "invented" the first wine in the 1800s. Thanks for this.

Thanks for the note and for watching Marc! I am familiar with them inventing the high end Brunello category but I do need to do more research.

Also this time I can not congratulate you for your good taste in selecting certain wines. I have or have had all of those producers in my cellar and I confirm the goodness of their products. I want to write one important thing, however: in 2016 the historic brand Biondi e Santi passed for the majority to a French group famous for Champagne. Surely the French will do well but the bottles, especially of the Riserva Il Greppo, produced before their arrival today have an enormous valuation and a recognized and certain style while what their future will be cannot yet be known. Among the vintages of Brunello that you have, I saw the 2010 (exceptional), I haven't seen the others. Among the vintages that I tasted, I would recommend 2015, 2016 and 2019. Avoid the 2014 if you can. My favorite producers among those you mentioned are absolutely Fuligni, Conti Costanti and Valdicava, just below I would put Poggio di Sotto and Ciacci Piccolomini. In the video I saw his Brunello Pianrosso, which as you rightly said (if I understand correctly) is not his regular but a singlevineyard. Regarding Frescobaldi's Castelgiocondo it is an excellent wine, perhaps less classic than the others but still good. If you like its soft and silky style, its reserve Ripe Al Convento is extraordinary. To finish this long written intervention not for protagonism but because your passion moves mine, I suggest you take all the monetizations of youtube 😂 and plan a few days in Italy, better in September, I would gladly take you on a tour, at your choice if in Langa or Tuscany or in the Italian wine area you want for a winetour similar to the one done by Giamatti in the beautiful movie "Sideways". I'm married and have the tastes that our grandparents had in case you were thinking about the weirdness of my invitation 💪😀. I have a lot of free time and I often organize tours in those areas. In the old days we listened to a little different music but I think our age is more or less the same. Think about it. Greetings and good drinks.

Glad we are aligned. Great stuff as always, didnt know about the Biondi Santi sale but the pricing is definitely too high for me. We dont have any Italy travel plans in the near future but if we do get one on the calendar I will take you up on the offer!

@@DrinkinItIn will do! I'm really excited. My last memory of Brunello was so good I bought 2 what I perceived from the internet as "good" bottles. Do you have more Barolo/Brunello/Chianti/bolgheri recommendations? I've really enjoyed the last few barolos I've had which weren't even necessarily high end (30 euros).
