It is truly amazing. The owl was big enough to effectively annoy the wolf but at the same time agile enough to avoid the other nimble predator’s attacks. One false move and it would have been canine food but it dared to take the risk to save it’s offsprings.

Not just annoy.. They dive bomb large animals and hit them with razor sharp talons at high speed, this rips them open and hurts like hell I am sure..Wy do you think the wolf jumped when the owl struck him on the back? Around here the great horned owls eat raccoons for dinner, seriously

This is my own Guardians of Gahoole character; Name: Rosa Gender: Female Age: 2 years Species: Snowy Owl (Bubo Scandiacus) Rosa is a Ga'hoolian slipgizzle from the Northern Kingdoms. She was born with a deformity that left her with a misshapen wing, and as a result, her parents left her as a vulnerable chick, only for a skulk of foxes to find her and take her in. She loves flying around her homeland, but she often fishes in the Sea of Hoolemere. She also raised a few orphaned fox cubs, due to the fact that she herself was raised by foxes, for a while. She’s a bit of a daydreamer, and can easily be distracted, but she’s a generous owl. Rosa tends to have crushes on owls of different species, and she is also a hopeless romantic type of owl. She also loves to decorate her feathers with the shed feathers of crows, blue jays, and any wet pooper bird that’s more colourful than an owl is.

In North America we call the three Arctic "Skua" species "Jaegers". (That's German for hunter of course.) They are all open ocean (pelagic) species, only coming to circumpolar Arctic lands to breed, obviously during the short Arctic summer. That's the middle sized (& middle tail lengthed) species that's shown in this clip, the Parasitic Jaeger I think, not the Pomaraine. I.e. Parasitic in the sense that they're all three 'pirates of the skies' (somewhat like the Frigatebirds of the tropics), forcing other seabirds to give up their catch after often long & involved aerial pursuits & awesome flight manoeuvres. I'm most familiar with the Long-tailed Jaeger & have had many 'close encounters' with them on both Baffin & Igloolik Islands in Nunavut. I've been dive bombed numerous times when apparently I strayed too close to their nests.(Your head is only safe in those instances when you carry a walking stick over your shoulder, protruding above your crown. That also works for Arctic Terns, etc. around their breeding colonies. However they can & do still intentionally guano bomb you!) Jaegers like to perch on the highest vantage points available on the treeless tundra (such as glacial erratic boulders), in order to scan for lemmings, etc. Twice I've had them fly towards me when I had stopped to photograph them, & then land & perch for a frozen minute or so ON MY HEAD! Once I was wearing a ball cap & the other time an ATV crash helmet! Both were amazing experiences since this large & intelligent bird knew exactly what it was doing! I was just a convenient & useful pseudo fencepost! 'Absolutely fantastic experiences - in the true sense of the word! Perhaps they're less apprehensive of humans than most other species since they encounter them so infrequently. 'Virtually never in the middle of the North Atlantic & very rarely on their remote Arctic nesting habitats. To anthropomorphize a bit though, perhaps it's just because 'they're large bad ass confident predators' (& bullies) who know their world so well! 'Amongst my most memorable ornithonological adventures! ...for an old 🦃! They're pretty good at harassing Arctic Wolves & Arctic Foxes too! 🐾 🐾 ...which I've also witnessed! No doubt but that they'd take on a Polar Bear or a Barrenground Grizzly, if it strayed too close to their nest. Perhaps even a wolverine! Cheers!
