Such a well spoken teacher. We are short of human beings like her.

Thanks so much!
I am not a purist - It is great to learn/review stuff in various ways. And I am a big fan of the idea of using the circle of fifths for other stuff than simply figuring out key signatures 👍

Thanks so much, Sir J!
I already knew that about the scales since I watched a video from Piano Keys, which I can recommend since she gives solid information. Oh, wait. That's you? My Bad. And that's good.

Excellent tutorial. So well explained and demonstrated. Every video / tutorial that you present reinforces / builds on the 'learning to play the piano' process and the best ways to learn...and as you have said..."Practice is the Mother of skill" Thank You, Marina !!

Thank you, dear Anna!
Wow, you did a really good job of explaining how the Circle of Fifths works, I can now cement the information in my head. Thank you so much. I didn’t previously understand how the harmonic and natural minors worked. Great information

I'm so glad this video helped you understand how the Circle of Fifths works!
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial, Marina - so much fun going through these exercises with you, and what I have been learning through the Chord Master courses about how scales are put together is reinforced here. I appreciate your hands-on approach of finding and constructing scales and learning yet more uses of the endlessly versatile Circle of Fifths. Learning in this way helps me in understanding from the inside how music is constructed and how it works. I will practice the three ways you presented here a lot to become comfortable with them. 🎵🎹🌹

Thank you!
My mother was trained in piano teaching at the New England Conservatory. Obviously, her training was very conventional. When I began to learn to play by ear, she was totally mystified as to how I was doing it!

Yes! It's a shame that traditional piano pedagogy is so limited.
I have never heard of the circle of fifths!

At 10:12 you highlight the notes in yellow. The G is highlighted twice. Shouldn't the inner circle b be highlighted instead of the inner circle g?

Yes, you are absolutely right! I made an error. But, if you follow the principle of adding the missing letter of the alphabet, then you'll be good to go. Thanks for pointing that out!
It is unnecessary to learn unnecessary things by heart ❤

Excellent video again Marina. But that goes without saying. Your videos are always going to be insightful. Just wish you had been my teacher or should I say my teacher had your teaching style - I have said over and over and will keep saying this. As you pointed out the classical training mantra is : 'This is what it is and it is what it is!' When you said about the circle of fifths being here it is and it has the keys around it is exactly what I was taught. Then left to know everything about it. Then made to look stupid when you just couldn't see it lol! I think the premise on classical teaching was, 'so you're gifted as you want to learn music, therefore, you must know this stuff innately lol!' Of course that was just idiotic but as you know 'it was what it was lol!' This is why I just love your videos. Although I know quite a lot of what you teach, your way of looking at things not only makes my life easier to access that knowledge, it also teaches me and makes me see other ways of looking at what would otherwise be quite stuffy music theory learnt! As you said - we all see things from different angles and perspectives. This doesn't mean that we can't learn from others points of view and learn from that. So thank you thank you thank you once again. Keep them coming please. Especially the classical music and fills and runs. Just want to say also Marina, you really have given me my love of piano back. Being classically trained and my teacher landing that crushing blow when she and he both said respectively - you're never going to be a concert pianist; engendering a lifelong self-denigrating, self-doubting ability to evaluate and evolve my own playing which actually infiltrated into other aspects of my life's achievements - I now don't put my knowledge and level of playing down and believe in myself and ability to play. Again Thank you so much for that. This is very much appreciated.

@@ThePianoKeys I certainly have learnt that with age. But it took me many years for that to sink in and allow my piano skills as well as self-belief in other areas of my life to develop and evolve. I learnt to be very careful with my words. Words are momentary but their sting last a lifetime and can change the trajectory of someone's live and achievements. They can also take the joy out of what someone loves.
