    @@ragulraj2072 Yes to the part about good career options. But I'd think it'll probably not get the 'same' respect that a top tier MBA grad gets because it's not just the degree that matters but the whole package of what recruiters are getting (MBA grads bring with them a lot of relevant skills that recruiters value). Would you agree with that view?

    A great video ✨ I had a question and it would be great if you answer it. If a student of engineering background did MiM immediately after his/her bachelors and then worked in the management/technology sector for say 5-10 years, will it be a good option to do an MBA after an experience for further growth ? Or is it so that an MBA isn’t of much help if you have already done MiM ?

    The only problem I have about a MiM is that it has a generalist approach rather than a specialized one. So it boils down to that . A generalist approach makes sense when you're during an MBA after your masters, you're more experienced and can use a business degree better. I already have an undergraduate in business administration and though I loved it and learnt alot, I'm still wondering if i should choose a specific topic in business such as analytics and specialise in it. I think then it boils down to who u know, cause MiM from the best colleges open up a lot of doors for a person in terms of careers. But I can't help but feel like specialising in a certain field and then going for a formal business education would be a better decision. This is mainly cause unlike an undergraduate in STEM, I have an undergraduate in business administration - which covers a wide number of topics. I feel like specialisation is better than hopping onto another business degree. What do you guys think??

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you already have an undergrad degree in business, going for an MiM won't help much. And you've pretty much covered the reasons. A couple of options you can consider: - Skip the masters for now, work for a few years and then consider an MBA. - Go for a specialised masters and get into the role/company you want. Don't include an MBA in the equation for now. Think about it after you've got a few years of post MS experience.

    Many programs will expect a full-time degree as a pre-requisite. However, there may be some that'll be open to any form of degree, irrespective of whether it's a traditional classroom based degree or online / distance education. The best way to validate it would be by reaching out to a few official MiM admission teams and asking them directly. That way you'd be saved the risk of submitting to colleges where you aren't eligible.

    The RoI will be the best if you can get a local job in Europe and work for a few years. Beyond that your experience will matter more than your degree. However, if you're forced to get back to India immediately after graduation, most Indian employers might prefer MBA grads from reputed Indian colleges (such as IIMs) over MiM, since the latter isn't a global, mainstream degree yet.

Our recommendation is always to go for a management degree after getting a few years of work experience.

    Sir, your take on the Oxford Brookes University's MSc in Management program? Objective is not to study and come back with a loan on my head. Objective is to immigrate into the UK or any of the other usual suspect countries that Indians want to get into. Either this or coming back to India with enough education pedigree and/or experience to get hired in a relevant role. This University doesn't feature in the FT rankings but is ranked, although not on top, in QS. Please let me know the overall risk involved and any other things to consider that I'm missing out on. Let's say that my profile is competitive enough only for this league of universities and that I cannot score enough in the MBA exams here in India for premier Indian B-Schools.

    We're not familiar with it, since (as you rightly mentioned) it doesn't rank high. With international programs, there's always a risk of heading back home with a big loan. Try connecting with current students to learn the good/bad/ugly sides, and then figure out if it's right for you.

    MiM is still largely a Europe centric degree. Other regions have started offering it, but there aren't enough to create a ranking for those. The alternative is to check out the top business schools in Canada (we have a video on that) and check whether they offer MiM equivalent degrees.

    Hello Sameer, I would like to take your advice on how I should proceed with my post graduate plans. Let me tell you a bit about my academic background 10th- 88% 12th- 68%(science) Graduation- 7.35 CGPA in BBA I graduated just this year and started working as a management trainee from July onwards but due to some health issues i had to leave the job for a few months. I have 4 months work experience if it counts as anything, but i would be well enough to continue working from January onwards. I was considering MIM that starts in September 2020 or January 2021 at most. My reasoning for choosing an mim is that i want to do an PhD in the future and i believe that if i do an MBA it would be wasting time as well as money when my main goal is to do an PhD. What do you think should be my approach towards this. And i am preparing for gmat along with a few Indian exams and am hoping to get 650+ score. What is your outlook for this. Thanks RSM

  • @MBACrystalBall

    @MBACrystalBall

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi RSM, good to see that you have clarity on what you want to do. MiM programs don't ask for experience, so the 4 months + break wouldn't be a deal breaker. A score of 650 would be quite low, if you are targeting a good score. Also make sure you read up more about PhD, since a lot of aspirants underestimate the effort and commitment required for it.

  • @MBACrystalBall

    For consulting roles, an MBA would be more effective than an MiM. And considering your experience, you're already beyond the stage where an MiM will be relevant. If you can hold on to your horses for a year or two more, you can apply to several good mainstream MBA programs. Sure you can go for MFin this year, but keep in mind that it won't allow you to switch into any non-finance role, as MFin won't have the same flexibility as a general management degree.

    Hello sir, I've graduated in B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration from Institute of Hotel Management with 77%, my 10th and 12th(science) scores are 87.4% and 70.2% respectively....i do not have any work experience and my interest in management field has increased as I'm not interested to work in hotel industry, do you think MIM degree would be a good option, I'm still in the early stages of identifying the right colleges and the necessary requirements....can you give tell me is it a good option to pursue MIM in terms of ROI?

    We've covered the pros and cons in the video. Be very careful before proceeding, to ensure that the feeling you have about the current degree won't be repeated when you start the new one.

    Hi sir I have one question, for which I couldn't get appropriate answer from 3 top abroad education consultants. I have completed my b.tech in 2017(completed 4years without degree), but because of backlogs I couldn't complete it. But doing MBA abroad is my dream. Hence I applied for distance BA degree from recognised university in 2018, which I will surely Complete it by 2020 December. Also I started working in sales department immediately after I came out of engineering college. Now, considering my gap in education and degree being correspondence, will I get admission in good MBA/MIM college abroad.? If yes what impact will my gap years and distance degree have on my career in future.? Awaiting your response. Thanks in advance.

    Those consultants couldn't answer it because nobody apart from the admissions committee can take a call on this. So, instead of trying to get answers from education consultants, reach out directly to some MBA / MiM programs and find out if they'd encourage you to apply.

    You'll have to explain and justify it in your application. If the admissions team finds it convincing, they'd look at the rest of the application seriously and not let one dip in the graph come in the way. Be honest and tell them the real reason. Lying will backfire.

    Hello sir, i'm currently in first year of college. I'm doing bcom hons. I want to study abroad after graduation. I was confused what option to choose, as mba requires work experience. Is mim better or mba? What if we do mba after mim?

    Between the two, a good MBA has better market value. Yes, you can go for an MBA after MiM, but it ends up being quite expensive to get 2 international degrees.

    Sir could you please tell me about Windsor University for pursuing MIM ? Or can you suggest me some Universities in Canada sir

    We don't have much insight about Windsor. MiM programs aren't as popular outside Europe, so the number of options in other regions is quite limited.

    MiM works well when you start the program will under 2 years of experience. Since you already have 1.5 years experience, you'll be on the threshold. If you have the patience, we'd recommend working for a couple of years and then going for a mainstream MBA (such as LBS). That'll give you global recognition compared to an MiM.
