You have become one of my favorite teachers on the internet. Everything we do is a process, a really good teacher explains that process and the decision making process it involves. I didn’t say “the order” because the order is decided by what’s in front of you. There is a model, there are lights, there is a setting... These things decide the order in which you do things. I am a bike fitter. I’m the guy you go to when cycling creates aches and pains, but you don’t know why - much like when you instruct a model to alter a pose, it’s our job to understand the reasons. When I started I went to a number of bike fitting schools, and they tried to teach me a sequence of steps to a bike fitting. That can’t work. It’s applying a set sequence of steps to a complex setting, yet it’s how we try to teach almost everything. I started building my studio just a Covid shut everything down. This gave me a lot of time to work out lighting and backgrounds (thank you for the videos), but I’ve not had a model in my studio yet. I have experimented with every form of light from a snoot to a giant umbrella (closed loop practice), and I look forward to putting that jumble on information in my head (much of it in your voice) when I start shooting portraits.
