One of my favorite series on any form of TV, including Netflix, cable, KZread, etc. I love it for several reasons: 1) It’s educational and extremely well taught, so I’m learning stuff every video. It explains all the fundamentals of solid chess play in an easy-to-watch manner. 2) It’s outright entertaining. I get to see players at my skill level get absolutely crushed - you know, the same guys I usually struggle against. I get to watch one of the best blitz players on earth 3) It’s relaxing. Most importantly, these types of chess videos are pure ASMR. Great to watch while laying in bed or unwinding after a long day. Something so peaceful about chess vids, especially these ones.

Before I started playing chess I was already watching videos of masters playing against 1000 to 2000 rated players and I thought wow this is easy, I can do that as well. I remember thinking that I would be immediately rated at least 1400 after I watched these videos. I would watch titled players point out mistakes that 1200 rated players were making and I would be like yeah these guys are really stupid. Imagine my shock when I started playing chess myself and 900 rated players were wiping the floor with me. Needless to say I didn't get the 1400 rating when I started playing chess, instead my rating was 600.

Just food for thought here... If you did play a GM, I'm assuming you would get crushed, right? (if not, sorry). I would highly recommend analyzing any game where that happens. There's really only a few things that could have caused this (generally): 1. You played obvious blunders (relative to your rating range), in which case you should review them so as to avoid similar ones in the future. 2. Your opponent was cheating. 3. You ran into one of the smurf GMs from the horde that are dominating the 10 minute pool. IMO, all of the above are worth reviewing :)

I remember 'inventing' this one in a blitz game then looked up the moves, iirc that game went well. But sometimes my instincts to bust open the centre feel premature and noobish (and I suspect, often are). I'm still developing the instinct for when to strike in the centre in eg. king's indian positions. I remember having an idea to gambit a pawn against the caro-kann too (this move is apparently called the von Hennig gambit) - that iirc did NOT go well

How do I get matches vs. the hordes of GMs at 1100? I'll get crushed by Danya literally any time he wants, I'd love the learning experience.

Didn't he have queen a5 at that point? 7:50 super complicated but it's a really good defensive maneuver

Omg man, I've watched every one of your youtube videos multiple times and have been subbed to your twitch since the dawn of time: Who was editing your videos during this time? Seriously we need to go back to this. I don't like all the cutting out of dead air, it takes away from all the character. People are now missing out on youtube

Lot of top players do a "speedrun" where they make a new account and try to get to a certain rating with it, often teaching as they go. Note that they message chess.com about their new account and after they finish the speedrun everyone that lost to the GM gets their points back.
